I'm watching Outside the Lines and i'm 100% sure Tim Kurjkin and Ken Rosenthal jacking off while looking into the camera and talking about this guy. Buster Olney starts seizing when he talks about him. Olney literally called him the best pitcher in baseball after his second game. I bet they have to hose these guys down after the interviews about Strasberg. It's getting to be too much. I feel like i'm watching SammyG and Juan talk about the Lakers.

You should do this, but know that yesterday Tom Verducci fellated Strausberg on the air.

Seriously, how disturbing obvious is it that Strasburg already has the 2010 NL ROTY wrapped up? Despite very strong rookie seasons from plenty of guys who debuted before Strasburg and will be playing after Strasburg gets shut down due to innings limits.

The writers make the vote, and the writers have permenently moistened Strasburg's balls. He may win unanimously.

It's amazing Strausberg is getting as much praise as he is on ESPN. I love Strausberg as much as the next guy but I don't think he's gonna be as good as everyone on ESPN is saying he is

Can you imagine what it would be like if Stephen played on the Red Sox? Since ESPN seems to be Bias toward the Red Sox they'd probably be proclaiming him as the CY Young second coming, if they haven't all ready said that.

Prior had hype, but they weren't counting down to his starts.

Was that only a few years ago? It feels like longer. Mark Prior could have been all that but I think Dusty Baker was the reason he didn't succeed same with Maddux. They were both great but Dusty Baker sorta ruined them both. I can't blame Prior for that. This isn't like Chamberlain and he gets all this attention just to fuck it up himself.

Prior and Maddux both had real promise before Tommy John Surgery.

ESPN wasn't the same monster back then.

Still funny though that the commercial heralds Strausberg as a return of power pitching while Jimenez, Josh Johnson, Price, and Verlander are all popping the catcher's mitt at 99 during the All Star Game.

Greg Maddux didn't succeed? Maybe not in the sense of World Series Rings (only one with Atlanta), but he had a hell of a career. 15+ wins for 17 consecutive seasons? 8th all-time on wins (355). First pitcher to win 4 consecutive Cy Youngs? 1 of 10 pitchers with 300 wins and 3000 Ks. Yeah, he didn't do anything.

I'm going to call bullshit on this, BTW. Here are his inning total by year including playoffs:

2002: 116.2
2003: 234.2 (including playoffs)
2004: 118.2
2005: 166.2
2007: 43.2

Actually, here's all his starts for that year:

# Pitches|# Starts
100 or less|5
101-109|6
110-115|5
116-119|7 (2 in postseason)
120-129|6 (2 in September, including a 129)
130+|4 (1 in postseason, 3 in September)

You're going to tell me that given not only the ridiculous increase in innings, but the ridiculous pitch counts (17 starts above what I would call acceptable at 115) he racked up (only 2 other 130+ games in his career and a 129), that it was not Dusty's fault? and Prior's "perfect mechanics" were to blame?

Hardkore Kidd J

Dusty didn't help, obviously, but it was gonna happen sooner or later. Dusty just sped up the process. So in that regard yes, Dusty is at fault, but it's not like he broke something that was supposed to be unbreakable.
