From PWInsider:

A new upstart wrestling promotion, said to have major financial backing behind it, has been quietly putting together a business plan in Florida and signing talents. A number of wrestlers have been signed to contracts or asked to sign letters of intent they will work for the promotion, along with confidentiality agreements.

The promotion is still putting together it's business plan - I don't even know if there is even an official name for the promotion yet - and it's believed they wouldn't start actively doing anything until the Fall, with the idea of then focusing on 2011 for a full fledged launch. There's no word of taping dates or television clearances or anything of the like so far. They are literally in the early days of the project and putting together their business plan, but with wrestlers being offered (and signing) deals, it's certainly newsworthy.

The backing for the group is said to come from a businessman named Peter Karoftis, who has worked for a number of years with Sterling Equities, a New York-based investment firm that owns The New York Mets organization, the SNY cable network, and several real estate and investment companies. Karoftis and Sean Davis, a long-time independent wrestler in Florida best known as one half of the Heartbreak Express tag team, are pretty much the core of the company at this time.

Kevin Kleinrock (Viva La Lucha, Wrestling Society X, etc.), Cody Michaels (WSX, XPW, etc.) and Mister Saint Laurent (longtime Florida promoter and personality who also did commentary for Ring of Honor) are also signed to work on the project, I have confirmed. Kleinrock will be working production. Laurent (who I believe is working on the talent and creative end) has promoted the "I Believe in Wrestling" indy in Florida. I believe there will be a crossover with that promotion's talent and the school connected to it as well.

In regards to names signed, I have heard a LOT of rumors (including TNA and WWE names) in the last month, but the only talent I can 100% confirm as signed as of this writing is Sean Waltman. A number of wrestlers I have heard have signed declined to comment, even off record, when I contacted them, citing the confidentiality clauses.

There are always a number of rumored upstarts that end up nowhere rooted near reality, but in this case, it could very well be a story that is worth keeping an eye on in the weeks and months to come.

Hey, every major promotion that started post-2001 involved X Pac.

Depends if they use anti-X Pac AKA Vince Russo.

I'm sorry, but if someone is backing this company who has a semblance of ownership in the Mets (even if it just is SNY), I just can't trust them.

With no real details, it's hard to say anything about this. Of course Waltman's gonna be involved, though. I mean, it beats his current employment, sucking dick for quarters.

Wow, he's overcharging his clients.

I dunno man, he used to blow Triple H. Anyone who can find a target that small has skillz.

Competition is never a bad thing. Is this the one that was getting some notice on the front page. There was a random article about a new company featuring Billy Gunn, Kevin Thorn, Charlie Haas, Jessie Godderz (reality star/ possible Orlando Jones storyline lover) and Larry Zbyskyo. I dont think that one was Flordia based, but it sounds interesting with a good mix of recognizable names I havent heard of and "The Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko

I saw the Heartbreak Express wrestle at a FIP show..

Called their opponents a bunch of faggots and then put on a pretty crappy match.

I'm having a hard time believing Shane would ever go against Vince in any kind of pro-wrestling related capacity.

It seemed interesting until I read that Sean Waltman is the only confirmed 'star' so far.

That other promotion referred to by Rollermacka is actually in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They are owned by a guy who has tried and failed 3 previous times to start a promotion in Canada, and now is running an angle based on the Survivor reality show featuring Johnny Fairplay and Rupert Boneham. Its shit i tell ya

In a word, meh.

In more than one word, all the financial backing in the world doesn't mean anything if nobody's attending. Not a knock against Sean Waltman, but his name alone isn't going to draw people in, same goes for any other wrestler who isn't being pushed by the WWE machine.

I wish them all the best in the world and hope they would become competition for WWE, but hell, look at the TNA machine with its calibre of wrestlers, its TV time and its backers and yet they're apples and oranges compared to the 'E. *sigh*

Who could they sign Booker T? Carlito, there isn't much to choose from as far as big names that can draw.

Yea, that sounds about right. That ones called WFX and it featured online promos between that Big Brother guy (Jesse something?) and Rupert from Survivor for a "Celebrity Star Showdown".

Also side note, didnt they aready try to build a company around Waltman (WSX)? It lasted like a month and had lower ratings than Impact

From PWInsider:

To follow up on something I mentioned in my piece about the new Florida upstart that is being put together, former WCW World champion Vader is 100% signed with the company I have confirmed.

At this point, they are trying hard to keep all other signings under wraps as the belief is not to let everything get out before they are in a position to run tapings as they don't want fans to feel like they are being teased and then forced to wait and wait and wait for something to actually happen.

A quick update regarding the financial backing of the project as well: The backing is Milton Wilpon personally. Sterling Equities, parent company of The New York Mets organization, owned by The Wilpon family, are not involved in any aspect of the project.

VSG

What does he mean by "run tapings"? They got a local network deal as well?

First two talents signed...Vader and X-Pac. Fuck, if this was 1994 they would be in great shape.

Mr. Nerfect
07-14-2010, 04:45 PM
Vader and Sean Waltman aren't going to set the world on fire today, but with a combination of new talent, and a shitload of cash, who knows? It might be wishful thinking, though.

The Fugitive

Vader. Right. Wasn't the last time Vader on TV back in 2005 when he tripped out of the ring?

I don't know how they could hype him up to those who aren't familar with his work. WWE wouldn't give over their footage. Maybe an agreement with New Japan and All Japan, but even if they did secure it, they show a hype video of Vader and then this guy appears + 7 years...
