lesnar v taker...by A LOT. for starters the fact that (until that one) no hell in cell match had be contained in the damn thing save bossman taker. whats the point of this damn match if your getting out of it? defeats the purpose of a cage match by a lot. the work itself was top rate. great story great action great wrestling. for me it doesnt even have compitition.

HBK vs HHH gets a lot of shit from the IWC I have noticed. It is also one of my top favorite matches of all time. So emotionally driven that the length doesn't bother me.

In my opinion, the first one with Michaels and Taker has never been touched. It's an amazing match, great spots and felt meaningful. The only thing I don't like about it is the finish with Kane. I know why they did it, I'm glad they did it, but I'm not a fan of it when it comes to the match standing on its own.

Second would probably be Lesnar/Taker.

And just to comment, the Foley/Taker "match" is over rated just because Foley fell off the Cell. Don't get me wrong, it was an amazing angle, but I don't consider it a match and it would be near the bottom of this list for me.

Desty and I think alike. Taker vs. Brock. It wasn't a spotfest, just fucking brutal. It was what the concept should have been.

Another HIAC match that gets a lot of shit is Nash vs HHH. The story goes that the crowds weren't buying it so they brought in Foley to help buyrate. I dunno about that. I watched the video package before the match started last night and honestly I thought it was good build all around. HHH was ferocious and Nash was a big babyface. The match was good as well. There has been at least a handful worse. HHH pulls out a hammer and beats Nash on the leg and the head with it for fuck sake. Nash also gave a good performance and came off as fucking brutal as well.

Just trying to help the other selections get some notice with positive things from the other side of the coin.

RANKING HIAC - WORST TO BEST

18. Big Boss Man vs Undertaker - The aborted fetus of HIAC
17. Taker & Austin vs Kane & Mankind - The RAW clusterfuck non-match
16. Randy Orton vs John Cena - was this even a HIAC match? Might as well been a standard 1 on 1 match.
15. McMahons & Show vs DX - Worse than all low expectations
14. Batista vs Undertaker from Survivor Series - Meh it was just alright.
13. Undertaker vs CM Punk - Could have been amazing a few years earlier.
12. Undertaker vs Mankind - Best spots but so slow in between.
11. The 6 Man HIAC - So many escapes and cartooney events
10. HHH vs Nash - Some cool spots
9. Undertaker vs Edge from Summerslam. Good match. Sick finish!
8. HHH vs Batista - The highest rated Bats match you'll get from me.
7. Undertaker vs Randy Orton - I liked Bob's presence. Good solid HIAC.
6. DX vs Priceless - Great beatdown. Great feel good story. Cool finish.
5. HHH vs Cactus Jack - Some sick spots and the match flowed fine.
4. HHH vs Chris Jericho - Highlight reel match for both. Not bad for Jericho's first time.
3. Lesnar vs Undertaker - Great psychology, story and pay off was amazing.
2. Undertaker vs HBK - The first. Probably the best. It was unique and brutal. If this match wasn't so amazing the concept probably wouldn't have become so huge.
1. HHH vs HBK - Not really better than the Taker one above but damnit I have love for this match. 2 best friends turned foe trying to OUT LIVE not pin the other. So brutal. So emotional. It was a truly amazing experience the first time and still totally enjoyable the 8th......

Ha. I was watching the Hell In The Cell DVD last night and was thinking about starting a "Who is the King of HiaC?" thread but I guess this kinda defeats the purpose of that thread.

Schlomey

I pulled it out of the closet late last night as well. I got 2 matches in and fell asleep but I knew I would wake up and make this thread.

as far as King of HIAC goes it is either HHH or Taker - take your pick cuz it really can't be anyone else.

HBK darkhorse.

Ha. I've been putting it on as I intend to go to sleep. It's taken me 4 viewings to get to HHH v Nash (and I skipped Taker/Brock & HHH/Jericho.

It would definately have been a poll between HHH and Taker.

I loved the 6 man. It was total chaos. Everyone got out of the cell and they were fighting amongst cars. Mr. McMahon came out to try and stop the match, which was a little hokey, and Mic came out to stop Vince. Austin's head got smashed through a window. They battled on top of the cell, in the cell, out of the cell. It was great all around.

Lesnar/Taker would be my number 2. That whole match was great. Heyman was great and the finish made Brock a beast.

Austin vs Rakishi vs Rock vs Angle vs Taker
vs HHH

Taker & Austin vs Kane & Mankind - RAW
Was that a tag match? On the DVD is billed as Mankind v Kane, then Austin comes from under the ring to attack Kane and Taker tries ro break in through the ceiling of the Cell. Or is that something different?

Schlomey
07-16-2010, 12:57 PM
I'm so torn between the 2 I'm going to call it a tie. I associate Taker with HIAC its like his signature...but honestly HHH is known for being way more vicious and brutal. Too hard to call.

it is a tag team match but austin doesn't come down for like the first half...the cell goes up and down and they lock taker in there alone with paul bearer...

it is a filler cell match to build the big one at the PPV i assume..thats why it was so lame.

I think that is a totally different match to the one I'm thinking of.

The match that's on the DVD is a singles match that takes place after King of the Ring, I think the Tag Match took place before. It's the one where Taker pulls Makind off the side of the Cell and he falls through the announce table but smashes his head off the floor due to a poor landing. The match ridiculously ends in a a DQ when Ausitn attacks Kane from under the ring and the Cell only goes up once when Taker is on top.

Schlomey
07-16-2010, 01:13 PM
yes there was a kane vs mankind that ended in a dq. You are correct. I went back and checked it out.

I must have missed that when compiling my list. I apolagize. I can't go back and fix it but I doubt ANY ONE would have chose it anyways....

if so just write it in :)

Figures TNA would steal that finish from WWE.

XL
07-16-2010, 01:40 PM
Also, I think there is a case to make King of HiaC into a Three Way. Although HHH and Taker have had by far the most matches, a case could easily be made for Foley. He kind of put the match on the map after all.

I personally liked the Foley vs. Taker one the best...just for the sheer awesomeness and the biggest WTF moment I've still ever seen in wrestling.Foley walking back down the isle off the strecher and the crowd losing their mind still makes me fan boy out.But as far as overall match HBK vs. Taker was the better. And it gets xtra credit for the debut of Kane(Not so much the run in part, but the debut of a legendary character)as well as the blood dripping down from the top onto the camera:wtf:also wanted to add that my favorite finish to a match was HHH vs. Y2J.Only one to ever END on top of the cell.

Taker vs Mankind. For 2 big reasons:

1-The sheer violence/brutality.
2-The announcers. Example: GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY! GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY! THEY KILLED HIM! AS GOD AS MY WITNESS HE IS BROKEN IN HALF!

That is my fav JR quote. Or one of them anyway.

gotta go with Taker vs HBK while I didn't see it until earlier this year I must say it was just amazing. Mankind vs Taker was awesome but just seemed like it tried a little too hard to be extreme I mean JR's commentary was good but even for him seemed a little over the top atleast in my eyes.

Come on, Bossman v. Taker was worse.

Also I believe that Lesnar vs. Taker was the best. The build was tremendous and the match lived up to it. Heyman was great. Lesnar looked like the dominate force they had built him to be and Undertaker worked his ass off to make him look that way.

HBK vs. Taker. Say what you will about their Wrestlemania encounters, but I loved their feud in late '97 - early '98 better than anything they did in the last couple years. Brock vs. Taker is a close second, and I, like most people, have a soft spot for the Foley stunt show at King of the Ring '98

Brock Lesnar VS The Undertaker

No other match has so perfectly captured the pure, brutal essence of the Hell In A Cell match. Sure, nobody broke out the cage or nobody went flying off the top, but the action and the sadistic assault on both men truly captivated me.

Besides the ungodly ammount of blood spilt by both men, there was that disturbing spot with 'Takers hand being hit repeatedly with the chair, Lesnar giving 'Taker two very strong shots with the ring steps, the overall story with 'Taker's cast etc... truly epic match with a truly epic finish. IMO this is the match that confirmed more than any other that Lesnar deserved his main event push.

Heyman was awesome during that match. Im glad he was loud enough for the camera's to hear and I think it added to the match perfectly.
