Yeah, I went to Skate and Surf on Friday night, and HOLY SHIT. It was incredible. I could only get tickets for Friday, but whatever, I've seen all of the bands on the other days (except The Early November, who I really wanted to see). This will probably be a pretty long post but whatever...
I got there at like 2 with my friend Dave and was stuck ALL the way at the back of the line. It would have taken a good 2 hours to get in. Some girls who were all the way at the front of the line started talking to us though, and they let us cut about 3000 people all the way to the front of the line.
When I got there I think Blue Sky Drive was playing. I didn't see much of them, but they were kind of generic. We went outside and saw Stick Boy for a little. They were ok I guess. We were thinking of sticking around outside for The Rocket Summer, but decided against it since he supposedly puts on a pretty lame show. We tried to go back in the back door, but the security guy told us we had to go ALL the way to the back of the 2 hour line to get back in. **** that, we cut the line again.
It was freezing in there, so I bought a Taking Back Sunday zip up and sat in the slightly warmer Paramount Theater and saw the worst band ever, Blind and Driving. One of the choruses to their songs was "A-E-I-O-U." They were booed heavily. After that, the main stage got fired up with The Youth Ahead. My FEMALE friend likes them, but I think they're really generic. They put on a decent show, but I wasn't really feeling it. They closed with Paradise City by Guns N' Roses... kind of weird to close with a cover song if you ask me. Piebald came on after them and they were pretty good I thought.
After that I headed out to the Arcade Stage again and the first thing I hear is the lead singer from Van Stone say, "CLARENCE IS OVER IN THE CORNER SMOKING CRACK." Yeah, they were a joke band, the lead singer dressed as a surfer in a pink wet suit, the guitarist in some skate outfit, and the bassist with a motocross helmet on. The singer told these hilarious stories setting up each song. After that I checked out Hot Rod Circuit on the main stage, and they put on a decent show. They closed with The Pharmacist. Some mutant girl kept grabbing my ass during the whole set which was quite annoying. She didn't look bad if you saw her from behind, but when she turned around
I decided to check out Funeral For A Friend before Andrew WK went on and I'm really glad I did, because they ****ing kicked ass. Very energetic, which lead to one of the wildest performances I've ever seen from Andrew WK. I just had to see him, even though I'm not really a fan of his music. After seeing him live though, he is the man. I was out in the pit dancing and beating the shit out of people the whole time. After he got done I caught half of Motion City Soundtrack's set, and they were awesome as well.
I was kind of pissed off that I didn't get to see Mae, but I had to see Coheed and Cambria on the main stage. I never got too into them, but holy **** that was a great show. The lead singer started playing guitar with his teeth and everything. They ****ing owned. The Starting Line came on after them, and they put on a good show as well. I like them, but they're a little poppy for my tastes, but they put on a good live show.
I wanted to run out to the Arcade Stage and check out Sugarcult, but I said **** that, I want to get a good spot for Brand New. I got all the way in the front, right against the barricade between the stage and the crowd for a lot of their set. HOLY SHIT, they put on the best show I've ever seen. I've never gone that wild while seeing any band. I can't wait to buy the DVD because you can probably hear me screaming crap at the band in between songs. They opened with "Okay, I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't," and I nearly ejaculated. They played nearly everything off of the new CD, though I would have liked to have heard Play Crack The Sky. At the beginning of Soco Amaretto Lime I started screaming "MY NAME IS ****ING PETE, SOMEONE BETTER PASS ME A ****ING BOTTLE OF SOMETHING WHEN HE SAYS THAT ****ING LINE!" Yeah, so when Jesse sang "And when I pass the bottle... back to Pete," Some guy handed me a bottle of Gatorade. I tried keeping it, but I was going to crazy in the pit to hold onto anything. They closed with "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades," and by that point I was dying from getting the crap kicked out of me, and I couldn't talk because my voice was gone from screaming, but I went crazy anyway.
Yeah, so if you can't tell, the show ****ing ruled. I doubt anyone will read all of that, but whatever, I felt like writing something about how amazing it was.
