The Undertaker

Around 92' I was at my very first wrestling show. This was around the time The Undertaker would walk around with his hair completely covering his face. I was pretty little (1st grade?) and was right next to the walk way. When the Undertaker came out some random guy picked me up and held me out so that my knees were on the guard rail and my body extended toward "the dead man." I reached my arm out and was a few inches from touching him but as he moved closer I pulled my hand back. I was too scared to touch him. Now, 20 years later, I only have one word to describe what The Undertaker does. EPIC. I'm not talking epic in the way that the internet has warped it's meaning. I'm talking truly epic. His entrance alone is a thing of art. What truly makes him epic though is that, at least in my eyes, a clean win over The Undertaker is worth more then holding a title. To me, any wrestler with the ability put you over like that deserves a 10.

I can't think of any reason not to give the Undertaker a 10 unless you wanted to critique his Limp Bizkit Biker phase, and he even made that work.

I gave him an 8. I'll be honest, I feel about him much the way I feel about HBK -- He never really impressed me in the ring. He gets marks for everything he's accomplished, contributed, and time in the industry, operating at it's highest level (the WWF/WWE).
But in the ring? Meh. He's not an Angle, a Jericho, a *REDACTED*, or a Hart. I tend to potty break during his matches.

I gave Undertaker a 9. It could be too high, but considering he has been on top for so long, over for so long, and has evolved for so long...its hard not to give him a high score. He hasn't always been known for his classic matches, but he didn't need to until the late 90s. Undertaker has been at the top of the WWE for almost 20 years and has always gotten it done and done what needed to be done.

Taker has such a great gimmick that it's helped cover up a lot of shitty matches against terrible, terrible opponents. But for every shitty match against Giant Gonzalez and Khali, there's been an amazing match with Shawn Michaels, Triple H, or Edge. It probably still averages out that he's had more duds than classics, but it's never seemed to hurt his career. He's always been entertaining in and out of the ring. His promo/mic work during the biker days was Austin level quality. His deadman gimmick stills draws in the age of the cynical wrestling fan. He's had one of the greatest careers of all time. Let's go with a 9.

10. Deserves it alone for HBK vs Taker 1.
10.
huge taker mark, but for good reason: such an amazing ever-evolving character, look, wrestling ability (and mic/non physical ability when its required), and knack for the business. The real man.

10. I'm a big mark for him to begin with. He's evolved overtime to become a legit hand in the ring, doesn't complain about putting over Giant Gonzalez, Kamala, Khali, Heidenreich, and all the other monsters he's had to put up with. When he gets in the ring with someone who can go, you get the HBK matches.

9. I may not like him (currently), but he is huge to wrestling. He's put on some amazing matches, including a few in his modern, "just give it a rest already" phase.

He's a high 9 for me great character but he's had some pretty boring matches over the years too and I simply can't ignore that imho no wrestler is a 10.

When your match formula for like a decade is "Get your ass kicked, kip up and hit SCM out of nowhere, win," it's not exactly riveting entertainment.

:nono:
Hitting something out of nowhere is highly entertaining/exhilarating. I'm not the biggest HBK fan in the world, but he was entertaining. His Wrestlemania match vs. Kurt Angle is still my favorite match of all time.
Note: i voted 10 for the Undertaker.

9 - The best big man to ever lace them up. Just suffers a bit, because honestly, he's never blown me away on the mic. Good, not great, and therefore not a 10.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. He's also arguably the greatest big man of alltime. He's an absolute icon and treasure in the WWE and wrestling world.
He's been a part of so many classic matches and angles, and is always able to stay over. Plus he's "the man."
He basically earns a 10, but gets a solid 9 only because I think a ranking of 10 should be reserved for the likes of Michaels and maybe a few others. Taker is great, but there should be a tier to distinguish the absolute best from eachother.
I gave him an 8. I'll be honest, I feel about him much the way I feel about HBK -- He never really impressed me in the ring.

The gimmick
The charactor
The music
The style
The promos
The atmosphere
The legacy
Bar his biker stint, I don't think anyone could of kept that going like he has. He's been in major feuds, many memorable moments and plenty of championship reigns. It's hard when you think he's been around for 20 years at the top of his game within the WWF/E.
True too with his biker stint. I guess he wanted to come out of the Taker skin to show stretch his legs so to speak, and I thought he did it quality.
Nice tidbit that he's currently the only full-time wrestler that made an appearance in the very first episode of Monday Night Raw, who is still with the company today too.

I've never been a big fan of Undertaker. I gave him a 7. The reason my score for him is not higher is because he was never a great worker and is only able to put on 1-2 strong matches a year (and it's usually at WrestleMania, so he seems to need the motivation and the right opponent). He hasn't been on a fulltime schedule in like 7-8 years and this has coincided with some of his best matches. Also, his promos put me to sleep but the slow talking is a part of his gimmick I guess. The final negative thing I have to say is that he's been a part of some terrible storylines over the years. Not his fault I guess but it has affected my level of being an Undertaker fan.
As for the positives - he has been able to take what initially seemed like too much of an outlandish gimmick and made it last for years. Also, although he's never been a strong worker, his best matches are very, very good.

I think we are giving Undertaker way too much credit here. If I understand correctly, we are basing this on wrestling ability. Maybe I am wrong on that but that is what I am basing it on.He has never been flashy in the ring, he is slow and has been a band-aid for the last 4 years. He only wrestles 10 times a year if that now a days. I will give him props on his ability to raise his game when it matters, which of coarse is WM, but other than that, I gave him a 7.

Another amazing thing about Taker's career is the amount of specialty matches built around his character. Casket match, buried alive match, hell in a cell, inferno match, and others I can't remember.

I personally think he's the greatest of all time. Perfect 10 for me. His ability to evolve with the company over time has been amazing, and he tells a story like no one else. He epitomizes what pro-wrestling is. He's got the ability, the look, the character, and the athleticism. The day the Undertaker decides to retire will be a horrible day for WWE and Vince McMahon's wallet.
If understand correctly, we are basing this on wrestling ability. Maybe I am wrong on that but that is what I am basing it on.
Read the topic post, and then show me how you came to that 'understanding'. That aside, a professional wrestler does more than wrestle. And with thaat aside, imo, Taker's wrestling ability is of a very high level.
