Mick Foley

When I had speech class my sophomore year, I did my final speech on Mick Foley because at the time he was my favorite wrestler. I now have a much more mature outlook on what professional wrestling is all about, which has changed my opinion of him somewhat. He has done some insane and dangerous things that should have left him much worse off right now then he is. (unless you think working for TNA is as low as you can go.... BAZINGA!) But I think when most people look at him all they think about is this overweight guy who fell off a cage once. When I think about Foley, I think about how much he's helped the business. He created a character that was way over with the fans, then helped create many other superstars. The Rock beating Mankind in an "I quit" match. Triple H beating him in the cell. He even put over Edge and Orton in hardcore matches. Mick has played a big role in elevating many superstars to the top, and for that I think he deserves around an 8-9. I think I'll go with 8 though, it just feels right.

10 for me, I'm super biased though, I love this man, he's the reason I wanted to be a wrestler
Gave him a 6 but kind of regret being so harsh. He achieved an awful lot considering he was an out of shape guy who couldn't really wrestle. Tremendous on the mic, able to take horrific bumps, horrific chair shots, always willing to jump into a pile of barbed wire or thumb tacks.
But at the same time... the fact he's been so fat for so long really counts against a supposed athlete in my eyes. I never felt Mankind was a top, top guy... Dude Love defo not... Cactus yes but unfortunately we never really saw that character pushed to the hilt in WWE.
His matches were boring after 2001 unless he took a LOT of brutally painful spots. Thus the conundrum of Foley's career: awesome for his spots, but completely dependent on them and therefore very one-dimensional.
His work in TNA has been horrible.

8. I love him but he's not the greatest wrestler. Since Pro Wrestling is more about entertainment than technical ability, I kind of rounded up. Guy was very capable on the stick.
one of the only 10 i will give!!

Foley was a glorified stunt man, much like the spot monkeys today except he was taking bumps not flying through the air. 6 at most.

8, he was great for the business. Cut some great promos, just not a ten because he wasn't very athletic.

TBH, I'm having a tough time deciding how to rate Mick Foley. So far, most of the other guys Jimmy Cones asked us to rank have been guys who can (or could) actually wrestle - i.e., Angle, Benoit, Michaels, Jericho and Hennig - but obviously Foley is not in the same league as those guys when it comes to pure wrestling and never has been. Before I give Foley a rating, I need to decide how much that matters. Any thoughts?

He's done some of the best(and highest rated) promos ever. From a story telling standpoint his were some of the best matches I've ever seen.I'm biased but i even liked when he won the TNA belt.i knew he wouldn't have it for long and it was another chance to relive the glory for his fans

I agree withe the whole glorified stuntman crap, and yes he wasn't the greatest technical wrestler to say the least... BUT... Most guys in the ring today are required o be stuntmen with all the high flyin' and chair shots we're used to today...
Mick stood out in one of the hardest decades of wrestling, the Attitude Era... He went toe to toe with the likes of SCSA, The Rock, HBK & HHH and kept getting creative to write for him... That says something... He was an incredible 10 on the mic so I round up to an 8 for Mick... Can't go higher because of the ring skills...
Why an 8 you ask? Because if a guy can put a Fucking SOCK on his hand an entertain us, then at least he gets a round up to the 8... Write that down...

8, points deducted for being a spot monkey and "retiring" early, still an entertaining guy, amazing characters.

He's not a technical wrestler but he's a great wrestler. Great brawler and great Pyschology. It's a disgrace people are calling him a spot monkey. Foley made me care about what was happening in a match. I gave him a 9.

He's a 9, great performer and can take one hell of a bump.

Solid 8 for Mick.

Mick was able to work some great matches and some not so great, but the care he put into the promos and feuds that preceded those matches is what makes him great. His matches and rivalries almost always meant something.
He was a great storyteller and entertainer, and for that reason I think he deserves the 9 I'm going to give him.

Spoilers: He never trained for muscle. He trained to be able to wrestle for long periods of time. He talked about it in one of his books.
