View Full Version : Rank those Rookies

So I'm curious, with a good two months into the angle, where you would rank each member of the Nexus on how much you've seen from them/how much potential do they have? Also, with the start of the angle, has your opinion on any of the talents changed drastically?
My list is as such:
1 - Barrett - Tremendous on the mic, been carrying the angle really, and looks like a superstar
2 - Tarver - Its amazing what a little serious mic time and a bandanna will do for you. I love his look, and his little time on the mic has shown me a lot.
3 - Sheffield - He's looked like a monster, and surprisingly, is very capable of cutting a solid, serious promo on the mic. His size also means he'll have some sort of a future a future in the company.
4 - Gabriel - The "finisher" of the group, I love how he's subtly changed up his look to take on a more heel persona. The 450 is gorgeous, and he's looked solid/has been relatively protected from beatdowns, I just haven't heard him on the mic at all (and from what I remember, thats for good reason.)
5 - Otunga - For a guy who can "pop" so much on the mic, and who finished second in NXT, he really has been a bit player in the whole Nexus stable. I still like his mic work and I see potential in him, but he seems very much out of place being a "lackey."
6 - Darren Young - His biggest achievement has been getting the shit kicked out of him by Cena...what else has he really done that has made him stand out?
7 - Slater - Just naturally a face, and looks completely out of place with the rest of the Nexus.
For me, biggest improvement has been Sheffield...I didn't think much of him at all during NXT, but this new found intensity is working fantastically for his character.

I would switch Sheffield and Tarver's positions, otherwise I agree with your list. I still hate Heath Slater and probably always will.

1) Wade Barrett - Easily the standout of the group, and the best newcomer to WWE in years. He's fantastic on the mic, he's very good in the ring, and he has a very well-developed character. It makes perfect sense that the other six would follow him, because he has it.
2) Justin Gabriel - NXT hurt him a lot, because it exposed his weak mic skills and basically pegged him as a guy with one move. Granted, his 450 is pretty much perfect, but it still didn't look like he was going to be much more than a bump machine. Being a part of Nexus has helped cover up the fact that he can't talk, and it's done the near-impossible - the 450 actually looks menacing.
3) Skip Sheffield - Another guy who has made leaps and bounds improvements since the formation of Nexus. In FCW, his character before Sheffield was a Terminator-like killing machine, and he was a natural in that role. He has a scary look that was wasted in his happy-go-lucky Texan character. Now that he's gone back to being a (mostly) silent killer, he's back to being compelling. Yup yup yup what it do.
4) David Otunga - I feel bad for "A-List." The guy can talk, and it looked in the early days of NXT that he and Danielson were going to be the top stars to come out of it. NXT exposed the fact that he wasn't that solid in the ring, so hiding him in these group beatdowns is a good thing for now. Hopefully, he's been working with the agents so that when he does get his chance in the ring, he looks better than he did on Tuesday nights.
5) Michael Tarver - I've been watching Tarver since the debut of the FCW TV show, the first time he and Barrett were stablemates, and the only real improvement he's shown is on the mic. He was playing a devil's advocate character before getting the call-up, and it gave him a voice to go with his look, but he still can't work. It still bothers me that a guy who can supposedly knock somebody out in 0.9 seconds has yet to knock anybody out.
6) Darren Young - Darren looked like he was going to break out on NXT during the whole Straight Edge Society angle, but he's been hung out to dry ever since. He can work decently well, but his mic work needs improvement, and the fact that he looks like John Cena fell asleep on a tanning bed isn't doing him any favors. He's got the tools, but creative clearly doesn't know what to do with him.
7) Heath Slater - The guy's a solid worker, but that's about all he's got going for him. As mentioned before, he looks and moves like a babyface, so he's very much out of place in Nexus.

1. Barrett - Outshines the rest by quite some margin
2. Sheffield - Impresses me more and more every week
3. Tarver - he's growing on me
4. Otunga - horrible in the ring, but has potential
5. Slater - more opf a fan of his than most in the IWC
6. Young - no comment
7. Gabriel - I cannot stand him..... How can you take a guy with his hairstyle serious as a bad-ass?

Justin Angel/Gabriel is a good talent. He is better served as being a face and the WWE knows that...Hence why he NEVER talks. He is there to deliver his brand of high impact offense. Apart from that he probably was told to just stand there with his arms crossed and do his best to look mean.
Putting him last as a talent is wrong...as a serious heelish threat I can somewhat agree.

Not putting Otunga dead last is a crime... He can't even pull of a clothesline without sucking and the dude sux at his own finisher... Well, maybe you can put him before Young... aka tan Cena...

At least with Black Cena we get a kick out of seeing him on screen. So at least he has that.....Heath Slater doesn't have anything going for him like that.
