Terry Funk

This guy did a moonsault over the age of 60. Terry has an interesting love for the business. He's given a lot back but at the same time it seems like he is trying too hard to give back. When he has a gimmick (angle or character) his promo work is just above average, but when they let him be more him be himself and get emotional I get into it a bit more. I'm probably going to go back and watch a few of his matches before I make a final decision on how I rank him. Feel free to post a match or two.

Terry is interesting. I always loved to listen to him cut a promo, and his 70's, 80's and even early part of the 90's stuff was fantastic. I have a kinda bad taste in my mouth over the whole Chainsaw Charlie gimmick, and his ring work declined as he got older (obviously), but I give him and 8, simply because he quit WWF by leaving a note saying his horse was sick and he needed to go take care of it. Awesome!

I'd go for an 8 on Terry. He was never exactly a mat technician, but all of his ring work (both the good and the bad aside), if it wasn't for him there wouldn't have been an ECW. Also his I Quit match with Flair was epic.

Can't give him any more than a 7 I never particurlaly found him entertaining at least as far as my exposure to him goes so I believe the rating I gave him is rather generous.

7 is very generous IMO.

Even though he paved the way for the Mick Foley's in this world, I kinda see him as the poor man's Mick Foley... A respectable 7...

5.

He has had a few good matches, but I can't help but feel that peoples opinion of Terry Funk is more a case of 'the guy is 100 years old and still wrestling... a true legend! 10!!!'

9

I don't understand the low marks for him, and at the same time I cannot explain why I give him a 9, other than he's Terry Funk. He helped ECW get big, he was great in his youth and gave Ric Flair one of his best matches against somebody not named Steamboat.

I loved his ECW work although it was sloppy at time he was always a soldier and still is apparently.

6...... He wrestled FAR past his prime and wasn't honestly that entertaining unless he was being put through barbed wire or broken glass or whatever else.....

8... He was a all time great that actually pasted the tourch unlike 99% of that generation plus his promo skills are untouchable

The match with Flair IS a classic!

I gave him an 8. He had some very entertaining matches, some classic feuds, a former NWA World Champion (when it meant something), and was more than willing to put over the newer, younger talent as it was coming up. The main negative was him wrestling well past his time though he still took some sick bumps, even some accidental ones.

What is a Jimmy Cones' average?

Jimmy Cones' average is a highly complex formula that even he does not understand. Take it or leave it.

So basically nobody knows.

I've only seen him in the past like 12 years or so so I have no bloody idea how good he was in his prime.

What is a Jimmy Cones' average?

I know Ultra Mantis kind of responded to this, but I've made an interesting discovery. The Jimmy Cones' Average actually changes with the more votes we get. For instance if you look at the #13 Rank a Wrestler, HBK is a 9.49, but on #14 and #15 he is a 9.5. Further investigations are being made and the same has happened to other wrestlers. I have called aliens to help explain this but so far there is no answer since they are too busy discovering bacon.

I'm gonna give him a 7. I was going to take off something for every time he fake retired, but then I'd have to give him a review in the negative numbers.

I'll give him an 8

for those that only know him from ECW...well you definitely need to check his matches from the 70's & 80's

He and his brother Dory were amazing especially in there feud with The Brisco Brothers and also Dusty Rhodes down in the old Florida territory

1, because I've never seen the appeal of a 70yr old rolling in tacks and barbed wire, and thats all he does.

1, because I've never seen the appeal of a 70yr old rolling in tacks and barbed wire, and thats all he does.

How fucking ignorant!

There are tons of reasons why I gave the legendary Terry Funk an 8. Here are a few:

*His dominance of the Houston, Texas wrestling scene in the 1960's
*His becoming the King of the Texas Death Match in the 1970's
*His feuds with Rhodes, Murdoch, Flair, and Lawler in Texas and the Mid-Atlantic regions throughout the 70's and mid-1980's
*His involvement in one of the most memorable moments in the history of the business: when he unexpectedly gave Ric Flair a piledriver through a table at Wrestle War '89 (until that point, that had never been seen)
*His brutal Falls Count Anywhere match with Flair at Great American Bash '89
*His feud with Shane Douglas for the Eastern Championship Wrestling title, and the three-way matches between Funk, Douglas, Sabu
*His work as a heel in the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980's (i.e., attacking Mel Phillips)
*His involvement in the United States' first-ever Barbed Wire Match at the Extreme Championship Wrestling event Heatwave '94
*His mentoring Mick Foley and their countless historic matches with each other
*His attack on Tommy Dreamer at the Extreme Championship Wrestling ppv November to Remember in '98
*His mic skills and captivating promos, which have been awesome throughout his career

I gave him a 5.

I was never a big fan of him. He did put on good matches and was absolutely insane, but I was just not entertained with him as a wrestler. Maybe it was because I am not old enough to have seen his old stuff, but I just never was a big fan.

Aguakate

...gave him a 1, only because there isnt a zero ranking.

The guy exemplifies what a "glorified stuntman" is all about.

He was hardcore, he was probably entertaining...but he was NOT a good WRESTLER.

8. This probably would have been higher if I was 10-20 years older but I'm too young to fully appreciate his body of work. Watching all of the little things he used to do at his peak is a real treat/education. Killer heel.
