Holy fucknuts. The best fighting game of all time is coming to XBLA and PSN

http://www.destructoid.com/street-fighter-iii-3rd-strike-online-edition-announced-179780.phtml

Capcom just revealed at the Street Fighter panel down at Comic-Con that a new Street Fighter III game is in the works! Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition won't be out anytime soon as work has just started on it. So it'll be awhile before a new Third Strike is out, but they're going to make the game right for fans as they take their time on development.

Capcom will be taking fan feedback and suggestion in mind when developing the game so be sure to bug Seth Killian over on Capcom-Unity with your ideas!

I was pissing about with it the day before it was announced, trying my arcade stick with MAME. Fucking 60 minute intallation time was well worth it though.

They probably won't but I'd love it if they HD'd it, or at the very least, do the widescreen trick they did on MvC2

There will not be a rebalance. It will have updated graphics (sprites or filter, Ono didn't say) and a host of online elements.

I don't know... Seems like a big fuss over what is essentially an HD port. It better have kick-ass 'online features'. I was hoping for some form of tweaked gameplay. Ah well.

Funky Fly
04-03-2011, 01:20 AM
Wouldn't a rebalance and new features make it 4th Attack or whatever they'd call it?

I guess, but my thing is why make a big deal over a port with extra features? This is the same game from a time when fighters died out, perhaps Capcom wants to reintroduce it to us... But it's dev philosophy is very different from the current fighters. It will be interesting to see how the crowd will react. Or if the net code holds up, parrying is fairly strict (guessing that will be opened up at least).

Looking forward to the trailer we'll most likely get at E3. Never played SFIII so this is an "all new" game to me. Looking forward to it.

Drakul
06-05-2011, 04:09 AM
So, as far as E3 goes, the Capcom Japanese blog posted this:

10100 - 1000 - 1001 - 10010 - 100

It's obviously binary and people quickly figured out that it spells out "THIRD".

If you read it as a maths problem (10100 minus 1000 minus 1001 etc) it totals -2011. So some people think that means we'll get SFIII this year, sometime.

Kalyx triaD
06-05-2011, 04:12 AM
I could see a holiday release.

Drakul
06-05-2011, 04:21 AM
That sounds likely.

Another conclusion some people are coming to is something to do with Twelve because he's the only character in Street Fighter that talks in binary.
Isn't he from SFIII anyway?

Kalyx triaD
06-05-2011, 04:32 AM
Yeah, he's from SFIII. One of the more quirky characters of the series, he would be great through an HD filter. 3s is still one of the best animated sprites around.

Yeah it's pretty cool. It has universal parry, overhead, most supers are double motion, it streamlined a lot of mechanics so you can focus on fighting. Elitist pretend that wasn't what made it so hardcore in the end. Honestly SF4 is more hardcore than 3s in execution requirement, but 3s lends itself to great battles.

• There is a trial/challenges mode just like SF4. They have a basic and expert parrying mode, and then set of trials for each character just like SF4. I saw the producer of 3s online going through a bunch with Akuma, and they get pretty hardcore as you go further into the game.

• One of the parry challenges on expert was EVO MOMENT #37, Daigo vs. Justin. Chun-Li against Ken, on Ken's stage... exactly the same setup. You have to parry all of Chun's attacks and then hit the same combo as Daigo did (Jumping Hard Kick, Crouching Medium Kick, Shoryuken, Cancel into Super).

• Ton of screen options: There was a smoothed filter, no filter, and you could even turn on scanlines. There was also a stretched mode which didn't look that great, but a widescreen mode which retains the look of the game while giving you more screen real estate to look at.

• You've seen the challenges and achievements that are on the left and right side of the game screen - when you complete these you earn points to unlock a ton of stuff, character art, remixed tracks, etc.

• GGPO - 8 player quarter match!

There are dipswitches for nearly everything you can imagine. Want to have all three Super Arts instead of just one? You can enable such an option. You can turn on the ability to cancel normal moves, cancel super moves into super moves, disable target combos, and so much more. You can check out the gallery at the end to see all five pages of dipswitches. It’s not something that will be used competitively since there are standards to play on, but it’s cool to have when you just want to mess around with whatever.

Options?! OMG! It'll split the community!

I played it for the first time ever, earlier on today. I played as Hugo for my first run through arcade.

Grapple moves are a lot more precise in this game and you have to be right next to someone to pull it off. Messed up my thumb nail a little bit.

I'd been hearing all this talk about Gill being this super hard boss but he was pretty easy (normal difficulty). I only really get a beating from him when I made a rookie mistake. Seth was harder for me the first time I fought him than Gill was.

I like the game though there were a few moments I felt were unfair. Doing my Finisher only for the CPU to light kick me before I grab them, stopping my finisher. Any attempt I made to do the same back ended with me flying through the air.

Ryu/Ken still Shoryuken everything.

Despite all the negativity in this post, I liked it and I can see myself playing it as much as I did SFIV & SSFIV.

The game is ten times better for me when blocking is disabled. I always play offensively so it suits me more. I hated the CPU blocking ever single thing I did. More fun when it's just offence.

Parrying just isn't for me, especially because I use the 360 pads stick. The d-pad is good for parrying in training but, in an actual match, you just don't have the time to jump between the stick and the d-pad.

Kalyx triaD
08-26-2011, 01:51 PM
I like all the dipswitch options, you can essentially make your own SF within the game's engine. I did some parry challenges using the thumbstick and I parried the comp a few times in a match so I think I can hash it out. Never did 3rdS with the thumbstick.

Game moves so much slicker than SF4, I've forgotten the pace. Hopefully have the full game soon.

Kind of hate the online here for playing anyone but friends. I can't seem to connect to any ranked matches, and I hate that every player match has 8 slots. Also the fact that you can only choose between 3 different rulesets. It all seems set to create a tournament/arcade feel, but I don't want to spend most of my time online watching other people fight.

DLC confirmed to be coming in multiaple packages with one just for character skin colors but very limited in its actual use, a music pack to add more themes, and a spectator-like mode.

Capcom has announced a few different DLC packs for Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition, thereby eradicating any doubt that the popular fighter hadn't been properly modernized.

The first pack, due on the week of Sept 6th, is the fairly self-explanatory (and immediately repulsive) "Color Pack 1." The first of several makeovers, it'll add 7 new colors per character, though these will not be saved in replay files and will not be viewable by opponents who don't own the DLC. It's up to you to describe the many ways in which they're missing out.

You'll also be able to download music packs, which add tunes from Street Fighter III's older entries (New Generation and Second Impact), within "the next month or so." Lastly, Capcom's planning to use "Match Pack" DLC as a vector to satisfy spectators. Two packs offer an hour's worth of content each, drawn from high-level matches saved during a "semi-secret" Capcom tournament and paired with commentary by James Chen. We'll learn more about their price and educational value later in the year.

Drakul
09-02-2011, 01:46 AM
New colours kind of sucks. Even more so because no one else is really going to see them. If it was new "costumes" as in a new sprite for the same character but with a different look that others could see, it wouldn't be as bad.

More music isn't a bad idea but, personally, I wouldn't buy it because I've no connection to any of the SFIII games.

Match Pack sounds sucky.

I don't think SFIIITS is a game you can really add DLC to.

The YouTube thing sucks, apparantly. PS3 users can upload it straight to their channel but 360 users can't. Instead they get it uploaded to a central channel on YouTube.
The quality is 240p, there is no indication of who is playing as which character, you're not guaranteed to get it uploaded any time soon and they don't even tell you where to find your video on YouTube.
It's supposedly MS's fault because of rules or the 360s abilities or something.

Drakul
09-02-2011, 01:47 AM
Also, I got through Arcade with a bunch of characters when I turned blocking off only to find it didn't count towards the challenge.

It would have been helpful if a message had appeared on screen saying "Changing these dipswitches will prevent you from progressing in certain challenges." but I didn't get that or any warning.

Gotta do it again with blocking on.

He only resurrects when his blue bar is filled and, once he uses it, he can't gain any more bar until the next round.

When he resurrects himself, you can hit him during the animation and his health wont fill completely up.
