View Full Version : Gregory Shane "The Hurricane" Helms

I was thinking about some of the superstars who were released by the WWE and he was one who almost immediately came to mind. Whether as a goofy, babyface superhero, a dominant and serious (though somewhat underrated) cruiserweight champ, or as the "reporter" Gregory Helms who seemingly had no idea about The Hurricane's true identity, I think he was and could still be one hell of a talent.
He's been gone for over a year and I'm wondering how many people here besides me would like to see him return to the company. Post your thoughts.

Still not sure about you, tho.
He was released in February.

Indeed. Seeing the Hurri-Kanes do a double chokeslam always made me mark out.

TNA signed him, he's probably Hardy's opponent at the special IMPACT

Never really liked the guy. Did nothing for me. Haven't and won't miss him.

Really hope he joins/joined TNA. Just as long as he is himself, and not "Cyclone" or "Twister". Loved the superhero gimmick, but that doesn't necessarily mean TNA should try to copy it.

If he just came back as "Sugar" Shane Helms, it would be EPIC. He's a charismatic guys that I really dont think he's a cartoonish gimmick to be popular.
Liked him in 3 Count and as just Gregory Helms, but not Hurricane.
Better off in TNA.

Liked him in WCW with 3 Count and loved him in WWE as The Hurricane/Gregory Helms. WWE shouldn't of fired him because he was great and made his character work. He wasn't ready for a world title but they should of gave him the IC or US title. If not they should of brought back Rosie and gave them the tag titles. It's a shame he got fired and unfortunately now TNA is going ruin his career.

Of all his incarnations Gregory Helms was the best one of em all and even as the recordholder of being the longest (cruiserweight) champion ever he's still very underrated.

I'm not losing any sleep over his absence.

While I agree with Rated rjo with not losing any sleep, I would still like to see the guy employed with a major company. If he's with WWE, let him be the serious Hurricane. TNA or RoH, "Sugar" Shane Helms will work out nicely.

This is what I was thinking as well... And he needs to use his name, not any kind of superhero crap...

He's awesome! I really like him, and I hope to see more of the chap :)
I don't really think TNA needs him (they have enough stars they don't have room for), but I'd like to have a Hurricane running around WWE - sadly I don't really see where that gimmick would fit in. You can't have a justice-maker in a world where Kane is a vindictive bastard, CM Punk is messed in the head, Orton is nuts, Nexus is on the loose, and of course Cena is still meh... Unless you're gonna push The Hurricane as the next super duper extreme face, and have him clean house to completely annihilate all heel-ish things in the WWE

I hated the Superhero character. It was a fun gimmick at first but the joke went on far too long. The darker 'Dark Knight' type incarnation on ECW in the last few months a mild improvement though. He'd be a welcome edition to any roster, although there's probably not enough space in TNA for him at the moment, particularly with their ECW storyline blowing up right now.

I think we'll see him again somewhere. The guy had a lot of talent in the ring, and was charismatic enough and good enough on the mic to survive in a big company. He's getting a bit older (the dude is 36), but I'm sure he's got enough left in him for some good matches (especially if he works a smarter style, which he is perfectly capable of doing).
If TNA haven't already signed him, I could very easily see him there soon enough. Most likely with a tag team partner to battle Shannon Moore & Jesse Neal. He seemed like a logical choice to be behind the attacks those two guys were suffering. Weren't playing cards left at the scene, or something? I could definitely see him given a slightly Joker-ish gimmick playing off his interest in comic books. Not all the way, of course -- but just a bit of a darker nutso character than what we're used to from him.
If not TNA, then he seems like a perfect candidate for that new upstart Florida promotion. He's recogniseable and good in the ring. Not a mega-star, but he'd be a solid hand for that company.

Tna or roh would allow him greater freedom in both moves and gimmick. But, he could always be a jobber in new york... hmm.

Let me get one thing clear....You stated that he was an underrated cruiserweight champion....Where were you when he held the title for well over a year?

That doesn't mean he's not underrated, to be fair. Consider that Gregory Helms held the Cruiserweight Title three times under three different gimmicks, and that he was the longest Cruiserweight Champion of all-time, and you'd have to believe that he'd be considered in kayfabe perhaps the greatest Cruiserweight Champion of all-time. But a bunch of other guys come to mind first.

Not in WWE. When I think of Cruiserweight Champions in WWE Gregory Helms (the heel self) comes to mind first.
Sure if you throw in the history of the title the mind wonders back to WCW with guys like Psychosis, Rey, Jericho, Dean ect....
