I don't think there has been a thread on this.

In any event, Fox has wanted to revisit the Alien franchise on it's own, and along with Ridley Scott started developing a true prequel to the original Alien.
It would likely involve the events regarding the crashed ship and the "space jockey."

It was rumored that Ridley Scott would return to direct.

A few days ago the news broke that not only would Ridley Scott be directing, but that LOST creator/writer Damon Lindelof would be writing the script.

It's also planned to be released in two parts, and using Avatar quality 3D.
Among the things to look for is expansion of the Alien mythology and new life cycles.

Discuss.

It's all good news to me, but I wish they also made another sequel with Weaver back.

A prequel as part one to Alien, and the other part being a sequel to Resurrection would be different and unique and I believe Lindelof could pull it off so they all relate and have something special/different.

That's actually an interesting idea Kano. I think they'll stay away from the end of the franchise though.
It was at least salvageable after Alien 3, but I think Ressurection put it to death, as ironic as that is.

It did indeed yeah :( I just sometimes wish there were more or as many sequels to prequels when it comes to revisiting a franchise. I could be wrong, just it seems there is more focus on the origins than taking it further, which is fine, and works, just I dunno, sometimes I wish it was going forward rather than back. And if anyone could make it decent and work, I believe good old DL could.

I would also like to know if they plan to make a third AVP. I know, I know they are nowhere near as good as their respective original films, but still, I love Aliens & Predator, the character.

It seems like they're focusing on splitting them up and going back to basics with the franchises, which is probably better for now.
I think another Alien vs Predator could be possible down the road, if they pretend the other ones didn't happen and take the right approach.

See I get where you are coming from, and I agree - but I also kinda enjoyed them. Yinno the kind of films where you love the characters (Alien & Predator), and even though the films were not the best they could be, at least they were made. Requiem was proper bad, the first, I kinda legit liked/like.

And then at the end of Requiem they hint that the Weyland Company (i think) intend to use the retrieved weapon for the alien world, hinting the next one would be in space or on their planet. And even though it was a shit film, to go back to the beginning again, and then have that reboot reach a trilogy - it just seems these sagas never get past one or two films, ever.

It's like that with Spiderman. I hated the third when I think about it, but if I watched it again, at least I would be reminded of the fact and like it that they made it that far - and then if they had made a 4th, 5th and 6th which is what I read Raimi and Maguire wanted to do originally, it would just be awesome to know, have and see a story be told on that kind of magnitude and have made it that far. Hell, it made enough money, which is all SONY and the rest seem to care about anyway.

Interesting.
I actually liked Requiem better than the first AVP. Requiem had a very comic book feel to it. I think back in the early 90's when AVP comics were rampant I remember reading a comic very similar to Requiem. As far as another Alien film goes, I don't really see where they could go with it. In a sad way, I guess Resurrection sort of did kill the franchise? I personally liked it but I don't know what direction they would take. I suppose earth being infested with aliens?
I do kinda look forward to the prequel tho. I like the idea of exploring the Space Jockey. I loved that scene as a kid just because of all the mystery.

They should ignore anything beyond 3.

Make a Prequel if you must, but I want to see a New film in which the Military/Weyland are searching for the alien homeworld after the events of 2 and 3. Or something like that.

I just want to see a 2010 version of the Space Marines.

Should be cool seeing a new creature, and some background on Xenomorphs or some related thing.

Turns out the Alien is a just a pet for the Predator that cannot be house trained.
