ne match that was discussed for the 8/8 TNA HardCORE Justice PPV would have pitted long-time rivals Ric Flair vs. former ECW champion “The Franchise” Shane Douglas. Flair was approached about doing the match, but the “Nature Boy” rejected it.

(wait for 2 minute mark)

Don't care, that would have been pretty disappointing in what will be a gory event.

I actually dug the Lethal vs Flair match but it was OBVIOUS that Lethal carried this match from the beginning. Why put 2 wash ups (one of which hasn't wrestled anywhere for quite some time now) in a match on a one-off big PPV event? You don't. I think he made the right call.

I respect this. Shane Douglas talked a lot of shit, and now he wants to make a buck by wresting the guy he ragged on? If I was Flair, I'd say fuck it too.

that would be better to use shane calls out flair, flair still don't show up just like the ecw days, or even better let beer money beat the crap out of shane.

Well seeing that this is supposed to ECW exclusive show it should have never been brought up. Because Ric Flair is member of TNA and not ECW. I do not want to watch Ric Flair and Shane Douglas drag ass all over the ring.

Flair looks like a baked chicken and Shane Douglas in tights would mean he looks like Turducken. I don't want to watch the struggle to lock up with each other.

Unless...........Its the Viagra on a pole rematch we have been waiting for.

Ric Flairs excellent wrestling ability got left in Florida at WM 24. He suffers from the TNA disease called Fuckitall. Because in TNA you don't have to try and you can get over look at Rob Terry.

Shane Douglas doesn't he need pain killers just to pour a bowl of cereal. Didn't he fuck his ankle up in that match against Christopher Daniels when had that :roll:amazing:roll: come back in 2009.

It's probably one of the best decisions Ric Flair has ever made.

The sad thing is that's not even an exaggeration.

Flair is above no one until he quits working for a third rate company like TNA.

YES! They did have a match at one of those summer PPV's in WCW. I can't remember which one, but I know I have it on tape somewhere. Funny thing is they never mentioned the ECW call outs from Shane.

This AND one less Flair match IS a good thing... Liked the Lethal match, but PLEASE Ric for the love a' Pete, quit getting in the ring... Douglas would probably just do something to hurt Ric anyway, he was always a Franchise of Shit anyway... The less camera time for him, the better... Good move Flair!

Didnt Douglas attempt to make a comeback back in 2009? I remember he was HORRIBILY out of shape and I think had one match with Christopher Daniels like Destro 2.0 said. As much as I liked "The Franchise", I would hate to see anything else from him

This is pro wrestling. Life is cheap and words are cheaper. There is no honour except as an onscreen gimmick.

It really doesn't mean anything to the business.

agreed...

Terry Funk retired half a dozen times it seems like and never stayed retired

plus Flair needs the cash since he owes alot of different people money

good idea IMO, would of worked in the 90s but not today, both passed it. rather stick Shane cutting a promo and Flair to confront him in the event.

I heard that this was suppose to be a hardcore match, and at Flair's age, he doesn't need to be involved in any hardcore matches.

Flair's got way more stuff to be concerned with than another lame match. Things like being sued by Highspots for $35,000, for instance.

These two fought each other at Slamboree 2000, in what was supposed to be a "huge seller" in terms of kayfabe and non-kayfabe. The geniuses at WCW figured that, due to "all the internet heat" concerning Flair and Douglas, a match between the two would be a big draw. What they didn't realize is that only about 10% of their audience knew ANYTHING at all about Flair and Douglas' supposed "heat", and that the other 90% didn't really give a shit.

That, and the match was horrible.

Those things being said, the idea of TNA trying to re-create that "magic" all of 10 years later is really, really stupid. If the fans back in 2000 didn't know or care about Douglas/Flair, then the fans in 2010 are going to care even less and be even less knowledgeable about the situation. The only people that could possibly do it right would be the WWE, and only because they have all the necessary footage from WCW and ECW to build the feud right. But they wouldn't do that. Because WWE isn't THAT stupid.

Flair vs. Douglas in 1996 would've been a damned good match.

Ric Flair, even though he should've stayed retired and should never have left WWE, is STILL RIC FLAIR...and I believe that Ric thinks Shane is just trying to revive his career by using him, and Flair won't let that happen...or at the very least, Shane is trying to become relevant again...
