How Big Country survived his fight is beyond my realm of understanding.

Fitch looks like a rottweiler on rage. GSP-Fitch should be great.

You guys are missing a potential upset here with Silva.

This is awesome, if Sonnen pulls this out I've won money on Werdum, Lesnar and then Sonnen consecutively...

You can see in the replay that Sonnen was fighting out of the triangle choke. Meh, this turned out to be a longer version of Lesnar-Carwin.

Not even mad at the end of that fight. Sucks to lose some money but Sonnen impressed the holy fuck out of me.

He was hurt apparently, his ribs.

Sonnen killed it, but i never really got the feeling Silva was panicking. To me it looked like he was looking for the arm bar/ kimura/ triangle most of the fight.

He's lucky Sonnen doesnt have knock out power behind his ground and pound or it wouldnt have made it passed the 2nd.

Fuckin' AWESOME fight though.

I still have no idea how Silva never bled a bit.

Noone at the bar thought Sonnen tapped other than Silva fans, but then when Sonnen didn't argue on the mic, everyone knew it was a tap.

The blueprint is out on how to beat Silva now, which, of course, doesn’t mean that any fighter has the ability to do so. Fighting at Light Heavyweight could get him in some trouble however. Rashad Evans might have enough to wear him out, and there’s George St. Pierre. What was dopey was that Sonnen actually rocked Silva twice. Maybe Vitor Belfort would outstrike him.

Props to Sonnen. Did what he said he would and took the fight to Silva. Mon Silva/Belfort.

Wow that was crazy, best five round match I have seen.

I still have no idea how Silva never bled a bit.

Maybe the same reason he just stood there in the first round with his hands down letting Sonnen punch his chin and not fazing him.

Thinking about what Alvarado said if you think about it Silva didn't seem like he panicked. He just tried to survive the beatings and look for a way out or a submission. I'm impressed with Sonnen's determination and grittiness but just as impressed with Silva taking all those beatings and just coming back as fast and supercharged as before when he was up.

Sonnen dominated Silva with his wrestling but if he did all that and couldn't ground and pound Silva for a win after 4 rounds then he's just short of good enough. I don't think Sonnen could knock Silva out despite the clippings or win via ground and pound as shown tonight but if he could apply submissions as much as he spent trying to ground and pound then he could have a better chance IMO.

Actually thinking more about what I just said, I feel much more comfortable now that GSP could beat Silva. Before I felt maybe Silva has a slight advantage since GSP probably still could get knocked out by a good enough striker but if GSP could take down Silva just as easy and just as often as Sonnen then GSP would try to submit Silva or win via decision.

Silva has trouble with wrestlers. GSP (or even Fitch) will wrestle the shit out of him.

Was Sonnen gracious in the interview afterwards? - All that trash talking and then losing makes him a bit of a chump.

HeartBreakMan2k
08-08-2010, 09:14 PM
He was humble, but I don't think it made him a chump even before hand. He said he was going to take the fight to him, put him on his ass and beat him up for five rounds. Even without the win, he did exactly what he said he was going to..

Sonnen could have just laid on Silva in round 5 to get the win instead of working. Bet he regrets that now.

Kind of ironic how Silva's black belt in jui-jitsu ... I mean happy meal toy was what finished the fight.

Did anyone notice that it seemed like Anderson Silva wasn't even trying until the fight hit the ground? And even when it hit the ground all he was trying to do was not get hit really hard.

fucking awesome show. I think it's the best one I've seen. There was so much emotion in the final fight. Sonnen really did back up everything he said. I'd rather see a rematch then Silva/Belfort, which I believe was talked about as the next one.

I loved finally seeing pissed off Silva. After that first round, he came out determined and he kept getting more intense as the fight went on. It's crazy watching Silva not defend strikes to the head. When he came out and started throwing flying knees and roundhouses, the bar went wild.. What a fight.

And the rest of the card was incredible

And something about forcing Silva to retire.

He was humble afterwards, but you don't watch any of it, so how would you know, you like to assume. Go troll somewhere else.

I thought he was just being completely controlled on the ground by Sonnen. He was always looking for submissions and reversals, but Sonnen was too good of a wrestler for him to really get anything going. Well until that last round.

Could be said that Silva made him humble, by doing something Sonnen failed to do you know finish the fight(with his happy meal black belt). I don't get upset with all the trash talking that happens, as I always find it entertaining, and like Joe Rogan said Sonnen has a gift for talking trash.

All that talk but at the end of the day he's not the champion. He fought the perfect fight against Anderson and still lost.

All respect he did some of what he said he was going to do...

Take Anderson Down: Check

Make Anderson Fight: Check

Take Anderson's Belt: X

Retire Anderson: X
