For those who didn't follow the NWA/WCW in the 1980's Magnum TA was the fucking man. Powerful, had charisma, excellant worker and over as fuck. He was being groomed as the face to knock off Flair. In 1986 Magnum just about died wrapping his Porsche around a telephone pole. One could day that he could have been their answer to Hogan. Ronnie Garvin who was never over ended up knocking off Flair which is looked as the man who won Magnum's title.
What if that tragic event didn't happen? How big would Magnum TA have been? Would Sting have been pushed so hard with Magnum still in the picture? Would the NWA/WCW have been bigger during this time period? Discuss.

Very least, Magnum gets 1 NWA World Title run.
Also likely, Magnum becomes the NWA's answer to Hulk Hogan, only a better worker. NWA possibly defeats WWF.

Magnum would have out drew Hogan and would leave great Legacy. Unlike Hogan who has a legacy but his Name is the wrestling History books with an Asterisk by it. I mean he only got over so well because of fucking T-Shirts in the AWA.

He would have become one of the greatest champions ever. I am a Magnum T.A. fan and always thought he was better than Flair and Race. Flair is great no doubt, I just always found Magnum to be better in the ring. My favorite Horsemen member was Tully Blanchard.

Magnum was originally scheduled to face Flair at Starrcade '86 and was penciled in to win the NWA World title
so yeah he was gonna be World's champ
He was a helluva great wrestler and one of the best good guys in Crockett Promotions
His cage match with Tully Blanchard at Starrcade '85 is phenomenal
his feud with Flair was great as well
btw Gertner...keep doing more of these What If's

I'd say Magnum would've been the NWA World Heavyweight Champion and JCP would've survived.
Magnum T.A. had the look, the charisma, and the ability. He was one of the rarest breed of wrestlers that have ALL three attributes, unlike a lot of wrestlers today.

No FK'n way Magnum out draws Hogan. To me, Magnum was a southern territory guy. Yea, he was over as shit there, but I don't believe he was going to be WCW's answer to Hulk Hogan. Crockett didn't have half the marketability that Vince had and nothing would have changed. I still think Sting would of eventually been the "guy" later on anyway. Magnum would of definately got that one run and maybe 2, but I really believe he would of fizzled out by 88

When I read your line about marketing, first think that popped in my head were those Four Horsemen vitamins, lol Crockett couldn't market for shit which would have been Magnum's downfall eventually. He would have to have gone north where Vince would have booked him as a midcard biker character. He later would have gone on to face Koko B. Ware at a random Wrestlemania. I love Magnum and thought he was awesome during his run, but I don't think it would have ended as well as some have stated....though it could be argued it would have ended better than it did given the current path life took for him.

by the way, I've got back into VHS collecting again and I've been watching a lot of 80's Crockett PPV's. You watch those PPV's and you watch the way they market thier t-shirts and other items and it's horrible. They were way behind the WWF in that respect. And even the way the PPV's were presented with this dark lighting and smokey arenas. It just did not compare to Vince. That's why I believe it didn't matter who Crockett marched out there. They didn't grasp that part of the business

I think alot of it had to do with WCW being ran more or less by the boys and they had no concept of business and marketing. In the end I also believe it's what led to WCW's downfall and the bleeding of money the company had going on. Bischoff initially had his eye on the prize, and made the company tons. However, once he became "one of the boys" he lost focus and the snowball continued to grow from there....

Dusty Rhodes and Ole Anerson were your two main bookers in the late to mid 80's. That says enough right there.

If he got national recognition maybe Donald Bellasario sues NWA for using a name very much like his TV show's title against of Magnum PI.

Lol did you guys know that Andre the Giant gave Magnum TA his ring name because he said looked like Tom Sellick. I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.

Andre: You look like tom Selleck.
Magnum: Ummm, I'm Blonde. Plus I have way more muscles than he does. How much have you drunk tonight?
Andre: Shut up you're Magnum TA now.
