For example, the turnbuckles, or maybe even the camera crew.

I've noticed that in WWE there is now only one, MAYBE two photographers at ringside anymore. Either they're really good at hiding or they've dramatically scaled back.

The ropes. I raised this issue a few weeks ago.

Why are the ropes on Raw white these days?

Why are they no longer red? Is red only for PPV's now?

Speaking of PPV ropes, I miss the black ropes on PPV's.

BigCrippyZ
08-11-2010, 03:56 PM
Why in a No-DQ match, does the ref count when someone reaches the ropes during a submission hold? It's not like if the guy doesn't break the hold he can then be disqualified.

Lately for some reason, I've been paying close attention to the camera angles and shots. They seem to have four main cameras for matches. One wide shot, one that gets close-ups from afar, and the two handheld cams at ringside.

During promos, the camera guys go into the ring now. I'm not sure when that started. I remember when Piper was guest host he was cutting a promo and looked into the camera and was like "Really? You're gonna stand right there, are ya?".

They are usually quite smooth about their moves into the ring, though. I caught one entering the ring on Monday, but usually they can do it totally unseen. Like ninjas or something.

Not quite the same. The results won't be terrible, but you can get better shots with a regular camera.

I suppose a bigger question to me is why even worry about their presence? WWE is supposed to be a sport, as far as Kayfabe goes. NFL and NBA have cameramen, so why not fake wrestling that pretends to be real wreslting? I mean, it's best if they're out of the way, but it's hardly breaking the fourth wall by noticing them.

What do you suppose the announcers' desk is made out of? How much do you think it costs? They go through them a lot. Would it be breaking kayfabe if WWE started making them so they had snap joints so they could be re-assembled after a wrestler was put through it? Would it be hilarious if one night they broke it and rebuilt it in every match?

They're made to collapse, which is why they rarely actually snap but give way. And they're reusable.

After ripping the padding off the top turnbuckle and exposing the steel underneath, why do wrestlers wait till the refs back is turned before they use it to their advantage? Surely this is not a DQ'able offense when ramming your opponent into the ring post is perfectly legal.

Swiss Ultimate

Seems dangerous if they do it any way but hiding.

Also, if they are underneath the ring they could be getting their eyes oriented for when the lights shut off so they can see what's going on.

They modified a part of the ring so it was a weapon, though. They don't need to modify the ring post.

They did, back in the 70s when they bought them. These days, you can get them off Craigslist for "Handjob or best offer."

why do they use monitors from 1987 in wwe?

Would you want to use easily damaged LCD monitors in those "destroy the table" spots?

Also not as obtrusive to the camera as big blue bars.

Yeah, which is why the Punjabi Prison match puzzled me so. It seemed like an obvious step back.

So why do wrestlers act candidly so often? Clearly, the backstage cameras are addressed within the show, so they're aware of them, so what's the deal?

I think that was due to The Undertaker being on SmackDown.

SmackDown had a ramp when The Undertaker had his "Biker Gimmick" but when he returned to his "Deadman Gimmick" the ramp disappeared.

I think that was so it would be safe for him to get to the ring without falling off the ramp due to the darkness or slipping on the ramp due to the dry ice smoke.

Or maybe both.

tag team wrestling is an ARTFORM that very few workers today seem to grasp. In TNA both Beer Money and MCMG have "it" as far as tag team wrestling goes.

In WWE I can't even think of 1 tag team apart from Hart Dynasty that really shows they understand how to work a vintage emotional tag team match.

I do like Vance Archer and Kurt Hawkins over on Smackdown as they do show some tandem moves that nobody else is doing which I appreciate. ....but loook where they are. Not on TV....ever.

That's more a matter of booking than the wrestlers I think. Tag team wrestling has been lost. That's something TNA should be capitalizing on. MCMG/Beer Money has been great, but they should build up a great tag division around them.
