*Spoilers* WWE Smackdown Taping Results From San Jose, California

Written by Richard Gray on Aug 11, 2010 - 10:50:28 AM

WWE taped this week's edition of Smackdown last night from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Thanks to Wrestling News World reader Grant Smith for sending us results. Below are full taping results:

* Vickie Guerrero opened the show by introducing the new WWE Intercontinental Champion and her boyfriend Dolph Ziggler. They both got a lot of heat. Kofi Kingston came out and attacked Ziggler. This brought out referees and Teddy Long to break it up. Long announced Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston at SummerSlam for the Intercontinental Championship. He also announced the main event tonight will be Ziggler vs. Rey Mysterio. Vickie says if Dolph has to work tonight, then Kofi does as well and setup Kingston vs. Kane. Long told Vickie she doesn't have the authority to make a match but Kingston says he's not a coward and he'll take it right now.

* World Heavyweight Champion Kane b. Kofi Kingston in a non-title match. After the match, Kane got on the mic and accused Mysterio further of taking out The Undertaker. Rey Mysterio came back out and said that Kane had the most to gain from taking out The Undertaker.

* "Dashing" Cody Rhodes b. Christian

* Big Show b. three local workers. The Straight Edge Society watched from the top of the ramp After the match, Punk talked up their match at Sunday's SummerSlam pay-per-view.

* Drew McIntyre b. Matt Hardy

* MVP b. Jack Swagger clean. Prior to the match, Swagger came out and cut a heel promo but MVP talked about how he was dominating Swagger this time last year. MVP got the win by rolling Swagger up.

* Rey Mysterio b. WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler in a non-title match. During the match, Ziggler was setup for 619 but Kane came out with a casket. Mysterio ended up winning the match with Kane looking on. Post match, Kane and Rey fought which ended up with Kane getting knocked into the casket. Kane got up quickly and retreated to end the show.

Swagger back to jobbing in the midcard.

Rather than jobbing in the main event.

Works for him.

Works for me too. Seriously though he's in the Summerslam main event so this is more to launch MVP than anything.
They probably want to push MVP in the fall.

Oh wait he's not in the Summerslam main event. Is he even on the card?

Seems an interesting smackdown card, something thats been lacking big time as of late.

No, which is a huge shame.

That's what I thought too when I read that. Like, "Jesus H. Christ, when are they just gonna finally fucking abandon this outdated feud already?!"

Sounds like a pretty interesting show. I like that they're treating Dolph Ziggler's IC Title win like it's a big deal. They could have even had Ziggler beat Mysterio in the main event with Kane's assistance, but it wasn't really neccessary.

I like that MVP gets to step up. Swagger has been looking like a beast lately, so this will probably lead to a feud between them. Their mini-feud on RAW was actually really good, but it just didn't get the ring time it needed. On SmackDown!, it will, and I can see it benefitting both guys. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw MVP vs. Swagger at SummerSlam, as well (confirmed in an added graphic to the final show).

I've got to be honest -- I've got no clue where this Matt Hardy/Christian/Drew McIntyre/Cody Rhodes stuff is going. It all started prior to Money in the Bank, with Christian & Hardy both saying that they've waited long enough to be top guys. Then you have their teased tension, and you have McIntyre and Rhodes beating them or losing to them, with the tension between Hardy & Christian being put on the back-burner. With The Hart Dynasty unlikely to make the SummerSlam card, maybe we'll get Christian & Hardy vs. McIntyre & Rhodes? But we've already seen that. I was sort of hoping for a Fatal 4-Way between them, but the tension between the four is not really there. It's just in the individual pairings on different given weeks.

Seriously, do the champion ever wins a non-title match?

Dashing Cody Rhodes used two of Hardcore Holly signature moves. He used number 9 and number one (The Alabama slam).

CM Punk's promo, whilst short, was absolutely boss.

I loved the way they tied all the vignettes together and made the music more intense. To be honest, I was never really into them. They took forever to get to a point, and they just seemed too "soft." But that they came together like that was pretty brilliant, actually.

I look forward to seeing him defeat a local guy with a bad-ass kick next week.

I can't believe it's taken them this long to debut Lee, actually.
