NWA reminds me of ECW...because, you know, the whole thing with Shane Douglas throwing down their title belt...

I never knew that two Japanese wrestlers were the inspiration for the logo.

I watched Ric Flair's NWA and remeber finding it on saturday afternoons when I was about 6.The first match I saw was Flair vs. Nikita Koloff and I was hooked from there.I always favored NWA over WWF. WWF was too cheesy for me even when I was little. I picked Flair over Hogan,Sting over Warrior, and The Steiners over every other team anywhere. It's one of the reasons I think I'm a Die hard TNA guy, which coincidentally enough started out as NWA-TNA itself.

That's an extremely small ring.

They've also been airing the old AWA stuff on ESPN Classic. The Rockers (a very young Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels...I think Michaels was 20), 'Cool' Curt Hennig, Scott Hall, Badd Company (managed by 'Diamond' Dallas page). Very classic stuff

Does anyone know the name of the small venue in which the NWA would tape its Saturday morning TV program, "World Championship Wrestling"? Is that building still in existence?

I think they first started out at the WTBS Studios, then moved to the Center Stage Theater in Atlanta in 1989.

Yep. :)
"On July 14, 1984 (a.k.a. Black Saturday), Vince McMahon, hoping to expand his national reach for his World Wrestling Federation (renamed World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002) promotion, bought the Georgia promotion for $750,000, retaining the World Championship Wrestling moniker.[2] Freddie Miller, an announcer, was the only member of the original Georgia Championship Wrestling on-air cast who did not quit in protest or was immediately replaced by the new owner.
McMahon had underestimated two major factors, however. The first was the differences in tastes between fanbases of different geographical regions. The WWF's soap operaish, "sports entertainment" style of wrestling sharply differed from that of GCW's more athletic, "rasslin'" style. Whereas the Georgia promotion featured an emphasis on in-ring action with talented workers, the WWF show featured a bunch of one-sided "squash" matches. WWF World Championship Wrestling was mainly used as a recap show, featuring matches which had previously aired on the WWF's main programming venues such as WWF Championship Wrestling and WWF All-Star Wrestling. This was despite the fact that McMahon had originally promised WTBS owner Ted Turner to produce original programming for the TBS timeslot in Atlanta. Eventually, the WWF would have in-studio squash matches on the show on an infrequent basis. During this time, the show was co-hosted by Freddie Miller and Gorilla Monsoon, with Monsoon serving as the play-by-play announcer and Miller serving as the ring announcer.
In hopes of appeasing the over 1,000 fans who complained to the Superstation over "Black Saturday", Turner gave Ole Anderson a 7:00 a.m. timeslot so that he could open up Championship Wrestling from Georgia, Inc. The following year, Turner gave Bill Watts' Mid-South Wrestling a one hour timeslot on Sundays. This upset Vince McMahon, who thought that his purchase of Georgia Championship Wrestling would give him an exclusive on WTBS. Ted Turner disagreed because he felt that McMahon reneged on the aforementioned stipulation in the contract that required him to produce a separate weekly program from an Atlanta studio."

I actually wasn't aware of alot of the early beginnings. This has been quite informative.

I grew up on pro wrestling since I was 4 (1988), so I knew a number of wrestling promotions between then and now, and the NWA is the most consistent name.
The NWA had suffered a lot of major blows, but they're still going strong, as they have several territories around the world (U.S., Canada, Mexico, U.K., etc.).
