Remember in 2007 when there were a grand total of zero Sophomore Heisman winners, and then we had three straight Sophomores win? Well assuming teams load up the box on Alabama and stop Ingram from repeating, it's a very real possibility that we'll have a fourth, and it's almost guaranteed there will be another Sophomore finalist.

Dion Lewis, RB Pitt (1988 total yards, 18 TDs last year)
Ryan Williams, RB Va Tech (1835 yards, 22 TDs)
LaMichael James, RB Oregon (1714 yards, 14 TDs although he's suspended to start the season)
Landry Jones, QB Oklahoma (3198 yards, 26 TDs, 14 INT subbing for Sam Bradford)
Andrew Luck, QB Stanford (2,575 yards, 13 TDs, 4 INT)

Andrew Luck will be the #1 pick in the 2012 draft. There's no doubt in my mind. 6'4 235 lbs with a great arm. Actually he might even be the #1 pick in next year's draft since he's a red shirt.

I have absolutely no idea how Georgia will fair this year. I'm not a huge college football fan, but I still live in Athens, so its kinda hard to ignore. AJ Green is probably the only Bulldog guaranteed to have an amazing year.

UConn has a shitty first drive but an amazing punt puts Michigan on their own 4. Michigan then easily drives all the way down the field for a TD.

Definitely got one of those "well, it's already over" feelings. One of those games where it becomes apparent early that they aren't ready.

I never really like the 1st week of college football due to almost all of the big name schools and conferences usually having a cupcake team to start the season just to pad up stats. I understand the reasoning since nobody wants to kill their season with the 1st week (ex. Michigan vs Appalachian State).

Its also always at home for the big name teams as well with a few exceptions each year (ex. Pitt away to Utah but Pitt was ranked and needed to prove its a legit Big East team).

Sup fellas. Laptop has been broken the last few weeks so I didn't have the opportunity to post about opening weekend.

I got to attend the Clemson and UNC game in Atlanta which made for a pretty loaded Saturday for me. UNC proved a lot to me considering that they even hung in the game with LSU while sporting a "JV" roster. I don't know much about the LSU program but Les Miles will have to do a better job of 2nd half motivating if he wants his team to compete for a division title in the SEC. The Clemson game was typical opening day excitement coupled with lackluster play. With the loss of CJ Spiller, I can only hope and pray that my Tigers can reach 8 wins this year....at best.

Other thoughts:

1. The Ole Miss loss to Jacksonville State was inexcusable....enough said.

2. UF and Oklahoma will recover just fine after sleepwalking through their openers. Opening week always leads to overreactions by most fans and media members.

3. Oregon looked amazing. While they were playing New Mexico, its hard to imagine that they were missing arguably their best player.

4. Notre Dame and Michigan still have a lot to prove. Let's see what happens in their matchup next week.

Next week should be one of the better weekends of the year. Already counting down until Saturday.

I'm not liking these VT uniforms, I get they're in tribute to the original team colors and the Corps of Cadets and that's awesome, but I'm kind of sick of everybody having these black uniforms. Kind of kills the point of team colors in my opinion if everyone gets black jerseys with different color stripes even if it is a once a year deal like Nebraska or Georgia do, or even tributes like VT's. The maroon and orange was always a cool thing in my opinion, made the games a lot more fun with colors that no one else had.

That being said I am glad they have been able to fight back from that early hole though.

Huge week for Big Ten football coming up.

Ohio State vs. Miami (FL)
Penn State at Alabama
Michigan at Notre Dame

Thinking OSU's D gets to Jacory Harris before Miami's D gets to Pryor, and the Buckeyes win a low scoring game.
Alabama will probably smash Penn St. in Tuscaloosa. BTW Bryan-Denny Stadium is officially over 100,000 capacity now.
Dunno what to think about Michigan right now. No way Denard Robinson can run the ball 25+ times a game. Still mad at gay ass Brian Kelly so I might actually root for Michigan in this game.

Looks like ESPN experts were right in saying regardless if Boise State were to pull off another undefeated year or be dominating in every game, they would actually drop in the polls.

Oregon takes #3 while Boise State drops to #4 in the polls although #2 Ohio State didn't move at all even though they struggled vs Illinois.

Theoretically, Boise State could drop even more since below them is LSU, Oklahoma, Auburn, and Nebraska for undefeated teams. Then a few 1-loss BCS teams and undefeated Michigan.

BCS Top 5 rankings:

1) Oregon
2) Boise State
3) Auburn
4) TCU

After #4, the rest of the Top 10 is about 200 points behind TCU. Oregon has a strong enough of a lead in points to ensure at least a spot in the title game as long as they don't lose.

1) Auburn (.931)
2) Orgeon (.906)
3) Boise State (.884)
4) TCU (.883)
5) Michigan State (.838)
6) Missouri
7) Alabama
8) Utah
9) Oklahoma
10) Wisconsin

Apparently the BCS and other polls over-valued the undefeated battle of Auburn vs LSU and the power of SEC to make Auburn jump to #1.

The way Boise State is being ranked means its almost impossible for them to be in the title game unless Auburn, Oregon, Michigan State, and maybe Missouri with Alabama lose.

Lets face reality. Boise State wont ever play in a title game. They could win all there games by 80 points and beat 2 ranked teams a year, the NCAA wont let it happen. It's not good money.

It's sad, but that's what college football is today. Auburn is good money. Oregon, OSU, OU. All good money. Boise State is not. And they wont let any numbers show Boise State as #1 or #2. They'll give them #3 and a BCS game against TCU as a pat on the back.

It's just the way it is.

Posted the wrong poll numbers earlier since ESPN leaked the AP Poll and not BCS Poll. Hate when they do that since normally they just post BCS poll and then later the less important AP Poll.

1) Auburn (.931)
2) Orgeon (.906)
3) Boise State (.884)
4) TCU (.883)
5) Michigan State (.838)
6) Missouri
7) Alabama
8) Utah
9) Oklahoma
10) Wisconsin

It's far from a given that Michigan State will go 12-0, but should they beat Iowa Saturday, they've got a pretty light schedule afterwards with Minnesota, Purdue and Penn State as the final 3 games. At worst they should finish no less than 11-1 unless they just completely fall apart in the last 4 weeks.

ESPN has been sort of trashing Auburn today during their game saying how they are not a championship calibur team mainly on offense once Ole Miss showed some toughness.

Earlier in the day, ESPN had been saying how an Oregon v Auburn or Oregon v Alabama would be the best BCS title game matchups. When Auburn gained the #1 seed, they never said anything bad about the team either.

Shockingly, its possible for LSU to actually reach the BCS title game without winning the SEC West division or SEC championship.

Auburn would have to lose vs Alabama and then vs S. Carolina (SEC title game) and LSU can actually jump to #1 or #2 due to how the computer rates things.

Some already predict LSU to be ranked #3/#4 once this week's poll is released to start that scenario.

Sort of surprised when considering he helped clean up the image of Miami U football after the problems with previous coaches and got a 4-year extension at the start of this year.

NCAA clears Cam Newton to play in the SEC title game and if Auburn wins, most likely for the BCS title game.

The "WTF" part of the whole announcement is the NCAA basically said the pay for play allegations were true and half-punished Cam Newton's dad and agent by saying all they need to do is nothing and lie low (Cam's father) and verbally disassociate with the school (the agent). Auburn gets no penalty or violations either from the ruling.

With the way ESPN and others hype up the SEC, you'd think they have always won the title or been in every title game but the SEC didn't get that automatic spot until 2006-2007 season.

Before that year, the SEC usually ended up beating each other up in records with just 2 appearances before Florida in 2007. Now you get the usual SEC vs Big 10/12 except for the Texas-USC game.

The SEC is overrated like a mother fucker. It is 9-10 average to above average teams that beat the hell out of each other with 1-2 dominant teams every year.

EDIT: I should have also added, that is what EVERY major conference is. Look at the Big 10 and Big XII (and now Pac 10 since USC got neutered) - a bunch of average teams beating each other up with 1-2 dominant teams.

They even said during the week leading to the announcement how it was a bad idea for voters to not vote for him but spent most of the Heisman article talking about all the off-field issues of him.

To be fair, Newton did have a great year on the field and in stats but you'd think the Heisman voters would have at least thought more about the potential for another voided winner or at least lessen the margin of victory.

NCAA suspends 5 players for up to 5 games next year with a 6th player getting a 1 game suspension due to violations involving money and NFL agents. Pryor was part of the group suspended.

NCAA also blames Ohio State for knowing about it and not doing anything about it but at the same time allow all the players to play in the upcoming bowl game. Violations go all the way back to 2009 so basically they won't get punished this year because NCAA and OSU knows they need those players to sell tickets and hype for the bowl game.

I don't see what the big deal is with selling shit off that you earned, especially since most of the players did so to help their family. NFL players sell their Super Bowl rings all the time, but a college player does it and it's a big no-no.

But even with their stupid rules, the fact that they are blatantly not enforcing the suspensions for the Sugar Bowl solely because of money is ridiculous. The Sugar Bowl is the Sugar Bowl. Do you think half the audience will suddenly say "nah" if Pryor isn't playing or something?

ESPN has a report of how 2 years ago the NCAA really considered to tough up their rules and punishments for football but due to their lack of real power, couldn't do anything. The BCS actually pays the NCAA for the bowl games and for the NCAA to not get involved in daily activities like in other sports.

A big idea was to ban teams who had major violations from tv but the mess that would occur due to conferences and BCS tv deals meant it was impossible to be done.

Both the NCAA and the committee responsible for college football ended up deciding against the ideas (NCAA really hates using the death penalty for D-1 schools in the major sports).

Depends on how desperate an NFL team wants to be to draft one of those players but only Pryor would have any chance of getting drafted if he decided to lie and leave.

More teams are concerned about the "character" of a person after years of off-field issues either involving a person like Vick or team-wise like the Bengals a couple of years ago.

Nebraska involved in a payment incident with a player's father but unlike Auburn's case, the father also ends up owning the apparel company Nebraska uses for official merchandise.

The concern is the school giving the father's company 10% royalties as a way of guaranteeing his son played for Nebraska when the school was recruiting him.

In non-surprising news, NCAA doesn't find anything wrong or see it as a violation of rules since the player himself doesn't get the money (aka the Auburn excuse).

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5970508

In updated news, apparently Ohio State originally suspended the 5-6 players for just the bowl game until the NCAA stepped in to reinstate those players but with a deal to have them miss the 1st 5 games of the next season (6th player only misses one). Its similar to NCAA overriding Auburn's suspension of Cam Newton for SEC title game when Auburn vs Orgeon would generate more money than Oregon vs TCU.

And the kicker sends it into overtime! Wow. Crazy.

I love how retarded and classless Tennessee is. They keep fucking up and killing themselves, but they keep playing dirty and talking shit. And their coach is such a whiny bitch too. They were better off with Lane.

I thought Bob Stoops was going to punch someone in the face if they kept on asking him about losing all those BCS bowls.

Anyway, it is a great day for Sooner Nation. BOOMER SOONER

After the all the blood, sweat, and tears Randy Edsall put into the UConn football program..............he's leaving to coach Maryland.

Son of a bitch. We were on our way to being a big time football program, and he walks away to a job that's not even that great.

James Steele

He won't be at Maryland long. He will be at a semi-elite program in 5-6 years if he can win an ACC Championship or 2.

Wow. My high school class president is on the UConn football team. Based on what he's said on Facebook, the UConn players are absolutely furious with Edsall. Not the fact that he's leaving, but he told Todman to announce his decision on the draft ASAP - and then proceeded to leave in the middle of the night without telling anybody that he was taking another job. He didn't even fly back with the team.

I've lost all respect for him. Hope he fails at Maryland.

He realized once his best player leaves, the team is going to decline for at least a year or 2 and his value for a big contract would decline as well. Smart move on his part but horrible for his former school or convincing future prospects about being "loyal" to a school or program.

Happens a lot in college in basketball and football anytime a coach gets popular quickly from a small school and "cashes" in at a big school.

While I completely understand the players' anger, that is the coaching business. Hell, it happens in high school football.

He's more than welcome to take the job, but it's preferable if he doesn't run from his players like a scared little bitch.

I agree that Edsall did it in a very fucked up way, but it shouldn't be as shocking as it is. I just can't believe he is acting like Maryland is an elite level job. He better win because Friegden got screwed and the fanbase loves Friegden and will look to crucify Edsall initially.
