Tragic news...General Skandor Akbar passed away recently at the age of 75.

Akbar was well in known in World Class Championship Wrestling, Mid-South Wrestling, Universal Wrestling Federation, Global Wrestling Federation, and NWA Championship Wrestling, mostly held in the Dallas, Texas area. He was known for his stable Devastation, Inc.

RIP General

Sorry to hear it, but a 75 year old passing away peacefully can hardly be described as "tragic".

I remember growing up in central Florida in the 1980's and my dad bringing video tapes of World Class Championship Wrestling programs home from people he borrowed them from at work since we didn't get the program on TV where we lived since it was more of a regional show in the Dallas, Texas and midwest part of the U.S.

The Von Erichs were my favorite part of the show, and I enjoyed watching the Freebirds as well. I do remember hating Devastation Inc. which was managed by Skandor Akbar but I was a classic kid wrestling fan who liked all of the good guy wrestlers. Skandor Akbar and Devastation Inc. did their job as I stated before of me hating them when I watched them as a kid. Funny thing, I was watching some of the old tapes about a week or two ago. Weird.

RIP Akbar.

He is fucking legendary in Texas, and I know my Dad always has stories about him and the Von Erichs.

When I started following pro wrestling back in 1988, I was 4 years old, living in Frankfurt, West Germany. There was only one English-speaking channel called AFN, also known as AFRTS, I watched a lot of wrestling back then...WWF, NWA, AWA, and WCCW.
