I enjoyed his work as a child so much I never questioned if it was any good or not. I recently tried to re-read "On a pale horse" and the bad writing really got to me. Ended up skipping to Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series. Oddly enough there's a blurb by Anthony about how talented Jordan was.
Of course, the Xanth series turned to shit...really really bad when I stopped following it. Then, a couple of years ago I found out he was writing these weird sex fantasies. He actually published a book called "The Magic Fart"...
