View Full Version : What's next for Forest griffin?

^I'm not looking to make a series of threads like this.
Forest Griffin has been my favourite fighter ever since I saw his friends and family being interviewed either on a fight build up or TUF1, I don't remember. His buddies said that even when shooting hoops he was so competetive and physical that they knew he'd be a great fighter.
Even though he's my favourite, he's not great. Even though he's an exciting fighter, he wins most of his fights by decision, he puts on good fights, so I was content with that. Sure he beat Shogun, but he has losses to Rashad and Tito. He has a decision win over Rampage that he damn near severed Quinten's leg.
But he doesn't finish fights, and I think that with the style of fighter that he has chosen, he needs to step up and start stopping his oponents with TKOs and Rear Naked Chokes. Finishing fights will take Forest to a new gear, which would carry him, most likely, to another title opportunity.
So he's been rumored to be fighting Jon "Bones" Jones, AKA the lanky Anderson Silva-like dude who caves in your "bones" with his elbows. He finishes fights, or has judges take pity in the poor cripples that are given the bad news of fighting him... Jon Jones finishes fights, in a stand-up war, well, Jones likes the take-down after some exchanging, so maybe the first 2-3 minutes will be stand-up. Where I'd give Forest a 50/50 cange. But after that the numbers highly favour Jones and his elbows.
I'd like to see a trilogy fight between Forest and Tito if they both lose their next fights.
Rampage has shown interest in a rematch, but he's fighting Machida, another guy I think Forest would lose to. Rampage, I think, wouldn't let the fight last 3 rounds, as he'd be hungry, or over hungry for a knock out.
A fight between Forest and Liddell might have been cool, a few years ago, but Chuck was his TUF coach so each probebly turned down that fight in the past.
I would like to see Forest vs. Little Nog to be reschedualed, and I'd put money on seeing that fight within the next year.
...My ramblings aside, what do the TPWW MMA fans think?

Well he was in my favorite MMA fight of all time against Bonner at TUF 1. He's an amazing fighter to watch because he can take so much punishment, and he is a great striker. However, as you pointed out not much of a finisher. He could stand to join a new camp and learn some more discipline. From what I hear he is fat and drunk these days, so I think he should work harder to be a fighter all the time instead of just when he is in the octagon.

Yeah, I don't know what the fuck is up with Griffin. He seems to be a payday whore more than a fighter. I hope I'm wrong, and it sounds like he'll be sacrificed to Jon Jones soon.

Or Bonnar could get his win, I'd pay for it.

Dana has made it clear that Griffin and Bonnar will have a job in the UFC forever. I don't ever see Griffin winning the title again at 205 and I think he'll end up fading away as more of an exhibition fighter than a threat.
If he beats Rich Franklin, I see him and Rampage fighting again. Maybe a rematch with him and Bonnar after that. Since Jon Jones already destroyed Bonnar, they might let Phil Davis be the young gun that rattles Griffin's brain. If Tito isn't fired, UFC might trout them out for conclusion of that trilogy as well.

I have no interest in seeing another Griffin/Ortiz fight.

You fail to acknowledge the Griffin is a better fighter than Bonnar. Phil Davis would pose a challenge to Forrest but come on, he hasn't dealt with a guy as battle tested as Griffin. You seem to forget the relatively easy time he had with Tito the last time they fought, and Forrest isn't even a wrestler.
I know he may have taken a split, but judging in mma's shoddy. He did most of the damage and by the end of the fight tito was just a walking target.
Phil Davis hasn't fought a guy who could put the heat on him like Forrest Griffin.

He destroyed Brian Stan and Stan has ALOT more ko power than Griffin, even though Griffin is ammuch more well rounded fighter..

I wasn't talking about ko power tho, it's completely irrelevant to the conversation. Griffin is the much superior fighter compared to Stann.
Griffin= Battle tested
Stann= not so much

What did you mean by "put the heat on him" if you don't mean aggressive striking??
Stann was a boxer in the Marines who served time over seas.. Sure he doesn't have as many fights as Griffin but is a former WEC Champ, has KO'ed most of the people he's fought including Leban who is a monster, and is 10-3, 12 of those fights being in WEC or UFC.. Either you don't know who he is or you are completely underestimating his skills, cause I see him fighting for a championship in the next year, where I can't say the same for Forrest, as much as I love him..

Yeah but I'm talking about them at 205 not 185. Forrest Griffin is CLEARLY the much bigger man of the two and is a seasoned vet and former champion, and is extremely battle tested. And by put the heat on him, I mean take it to him, just cuz he doesn't have knock out power doesn't mean the motherfucker doesn't hurt people. Jesus Christ, give the guy some credit, he's Forrest Griffin for christ's sake.
We saw what happened lastnite, but that performance is not indicative of the rest of his career, in fact everyone said he looked VASTLY improved, and he was fighting at 185 nt 205. It's not going to be as easy to bully a much more experienced and larger Griffin around, especially in the second and third round, where all that experience comes into play.
Srsly man, you are the worst sometimes. God knows what it's like arguing football with you, you fucking nuthugger. And don't talk to me like I don't know who Brian Stann is, like fuck off you ass hat, you didn't even know Jake Shields fought Martin Kampmann. For fuck sake.

Settle down guy..
You said Davis hadn't fought anyone which is wrong.. Now you are saying "I am talking about 205 not 185".. If you werent such a waterhead, you'd know that last night was Stanns first fight at 185..
Why don't you discuss things, instead of trying to act like a tough guy?? I worked the weekend of 121 and didn't have Internet at the time.. How does me missing a fight have anything to do with you saying Davis hasn't beat anyone?? And now attacking me cause I proved he has..

Dude, Stann is not a legit threat at 205, he's a mid ranger at best. Making the jump from Brian Stann to Tim Boetsch to FORREST GRIFFIN is a HUGE leap in competition. Buddy was saying they'd be FEEDING Forrest Griffin to Phil Davis, which is just a retarded notion.
Forrest Griffins biggest wins- Tito Ortiz, Shogun Rua, Rampage Jackson
Brian Stann's biggest wins- Chris Leben, Doug Marshall and Steve Cantwell, WHO HE LOST TO IN THE FIRST PLACE. Oh he also lost to fucking Krystof Sozynski, who is at best a gate keeper. PS. I looked this up on fight finder, I didn't know this off the top of my head as to not present myself as a know itall, but I knew that Stann's biggest win just came at his first fight at 185, against a VERY sloppy Chris Leben, who did not look good at all.
And I attack you cuz most of your posts are retarded. Well not even that, it's more you try to act like some MMA guru, and you don't know shit, and it's annoying.

How is me saying Stann was a quality win acting like an "mma guru" or stating "retarded shit"??
Atleast you admitted the way you acted in here was because of previous interactions because you are acting like a little girl.. Reread this thread.. You sound like you want to kick your cat and it came out of nowhere..

lol want to kick a cat. It's more I think you're terrible with MMA and you act like a know it all. You talk to me like I have no idea who Brian Stann is... I've seen the guy fight before and I wasn't overly impressed, and he's not much at 205, at the very best a c plus level fighter. He's not a quality win enough to say one would be feeding Griffin to Phil Davis. Maybe at 185 now, with an increase in speed, and the fact that he's bigger than a lot of the guys, AND NOW he is training with Greg Jackson, he can make an impact in that division. But at 205 where Phil Davis beat him, I did not find him to be a feasible threat, at least not a Forrest Griffin level threat. Which was my point.
You haven't proven me wrong over anything, and usually you just spout shit from your keyboard, and thus my posts grow impatient. I love MMA and I don't enjoy the way you talk about it, so thus, I voice my displeasure. It's not like I think you're a bad person, but you talk MMA like a knob. And it's not like I let it leave this forum, so don't act like I'm at home crying about it, but I guess it's the easy way out, so you'll take it. It's all part of the game homeslice.

I think your mistake is, I didn't say the thing about feeding Griffin to Davas, just that Davis has quality wins over quality opponents..
