View Full Version : The Last 4 or 5 star match you've seen by a WWE talent other than HBK or Taker?

I've been watching TNA lately and I must be honest, they've put on some good matches. Beer Money vs. Motor City, Motor City vs. Generation Me, and AJ vs. Kurt come to mind.
Now we can all say TNA is blowing their load on t.v. instead of saving it for the PPV, but hell when compared to WWE their PPV matches are better at times and it makes WWE all the more annoying to go from watching matches like that on t.v. and then watching Cena pop up after a DDT on concrete and win or Sheamus get a shitty win again and then get laid out by The Rattlesnake... I mean The Viper.
So the question is, when was the last time WWE put on a match that was of 5 star quality, particularly involving the new generation of stars like Cena, Orton, Sheamus, etc...

Cena and Orton usually have pretty good matches and the series with Batista recently turned out some good quality matches for Cena particularly Wrestlemania and Extreme Rules. Sheamus had two great matches against HHH at Mania and an even better one at Extreme Rules. Cena and Orton had a great series of matches despite what people say. Their Iron Man Match is one of my newer favorite matches. Personally the last time Cena had a great 4 star match was against the Miz on RAW. That was only about a week ago. I'm a Cena fan so I usually don't see the negative everyone talks about. Cena did get DDTd on the concrete floor yes, but he didn't automatically sit up. Plus, how anti-climactic would it be if Gabriel hit the 450 and the match just ended. It would have been awful. It should have came down to Cena and Barrett. It made sense and I thought he did very well in the match as Cena usually does. Cena has done alot since he became a main eventer and the bulk of it was good: good match with JBL at Judgment Day I Quit, great series with Jericho at Summerslam and RAW, good matches with Angle at Unforgiven and Survivor Series, excellent feud and matches which elevated Edge's standing in the company, good matches with HHH always, good match with RVD, good matches with HBK, good feud with Orton, really good match with Lashley at GAB 07, good rivalry revisited with JBL with a classic at Judgment Day, feud with Orton revisited and really good matches, the Sheamus feud is the only one I didn't like because I didn't think Sheamus should have won the title. It takes two to have a good match. He is a good worker and deserves praise for what he does for the company. He is a work horse and respect him for that as well. Orton was better from September 2003-September 2004 in my opinion.
On a sidenote, TNA has had some great matches lately I would agree with that 100%. I just don't like that The Pope is placed so high on the card. He is good, but he is not main event worthy. Anderson will probably be the next champion and I would be surprised if he isn't. The MCMG vs. Beer Money feud was great, MCMG vs. Young Bucks was awesome. The only thing that is unecessary is EV2.0. They are the only thing I don't like about TNA.

Honestly, I'm with you. I haven't seen a solid match in a long time

The last solid match I saw was actually last night at a house show in Bethlehem, PA between CM Punk and MVP. It was PPV quality. They worked their ass off for the crowd, many near falls and very good chemistry. Hopefully it was practice for Smackdown this week.

I can't remember the last 4 or 5 star match...This years money in the bank at wrestlemania wasn't bad, but the ending was terrible with Swagger fidgeting with the damn briefcase for nearly a minute.

The triple threat match on RAW for the #1 Contendership that involved Jericho, Orton, and Edge not so long ago I thought was rather good despite the rough start.

Call me crazy, but I'd give the Nexus/Team WWE match 4 stars. I know its not 1 on 1, but I was really entertained by it.
'Rating' matches is dumb. It's not hard to call a match excellent, good, decent, not bad etc without having to add a number to it. And Rey Mysterio/Chris Jericho from last year (Extreme Rules maybe) was possibly the best match I saw anywhere on earth in 2009.

A.J. Styles vs Kurt Angle last man standing about a year ago was awesome.Angle vs Anderson in the cage at lockdown. MCMG vs Beer Money(when the guns won,and the last match they had). Jericho vs Rey during their last feud. kofi vs orton at whatever ppv they wrestled at last year.

I would give this 4 to 5 star rating....

You're just splitting hairs for the exact same concept...
Excellent = 5
Good = 4
Decent/Average = 3
Below Average/Meh = 2
Bad = 1
I didn't mean some variety of set scale with those words, the fact they're in some variety of order is for the purpose of the thread.

Also there not huge names but I though the series of matches between JoMo and Ziggler on SD a few months ago were rather good to bad the promos to go with it were meh.

CM Punk and Jeff Hardy's fued delivered and Extreme Rules 2009 I believe Jeff Hardy vs Edge in a Ladder match was definitely a 4 star.

So we can say guys that are in TNA that were in WWE at the time of the match then? In that case.. Benoit vs Angle in the long ass Iron man match

Really I just want to know what was the last match presented by the WWE that you would deem 4 or 5 star quality or "excellent" if you're someone not into quantitative analysis of wrestling matches.
It seems so long ago for me compared to some of the matches TNA shows as of late... specifically in the tag team division and AJ Styles.

I have to go with Morrison vs. Rey as well.

Morrison/Bourne on Morrison's last night in ECW.
Rey/Ziggler at last year's Summerslam.
Just a couple that haven't been mentioned.
