Toney was worth it, easily. His hype and media apperances alone is worth that.

I think it's retarded a champion, who won, made under $100,000.

The think the point is that the guy made twice what Randy did, who absolutely fucking murdered him, and who is a grizzled veteran of MMA. Toney was favored to lose 5 to 1.

Easiest money James Toney has ever made. Talk some shit, show up and do 2 minutes "work" and pocket a massive cheque. Probably lost more weight lifting his cheque than training for the fight.

I wouldnt worry about what they make. I'm sure Randy made more then him. This is just what's put on paper.

Yeah, but Randy Couture isn't going to get you 700,000 buys, unless he's in a title fight maybe, and those days are gone. Toney easily sold more PPVs than anyone else on that card. Not to mention the mainstream attention 118 got that it would otherwise not have. James Toney got 500K and brought alot of eyes that would have otherwise not have been watching. But Couture should have made more than he did, but that's the UFC and Dana white.

Forget what Toney and Couture made, Frankie only made like 45k to show and 45k to win, in a main event, that's a title fight, and he's the champion.

i understand to an extent how this works, and how you have to pay fighters on what sort of money they'll bring into the company, but for james toney to lie on his back and take it like a whore for 500k is just sad.

Toney had the balls to do what no other boxer would, and that was step into MMA, and no less he accepts a fight with a world class grappler like Couture. While he didn't impress anyone inside the cage, give him some credit for actually doing it, unlike guys like Hopkins, and Mayweather and the Klitcheskos and whoever else in boxing said they would knock those MMA guys out. Toney was nothing but good for MMA if you ask me.

On that note, put Toney in there with Pat Barry or someone who will stand with him.

i'd step in an mma ring with randy couture and let him tap me out for 500k too.

Yeah, it says it doesn't include the fight bonuses and locker bonuses at the top. Some of those guys def made more. Plus it doesn't include the sponsor money either.

Sad but true. Like I said in the other thread, outside of punching people he's one of the most useless people alive.

Nah, he is horrible for MMA. It makes MMA look like a world full of scumbags when you get a big name from boxing showing up over the hill and out of shape and clearly only in it for the money. Toney's only proven what a sack of shit he is and damaged the rep of the ufc.

It'd be a lot better for MMA if they had say one of the Klitschkos (sp?) show up and go champ vs champ with Lesnar. They're in their primes and are probably actually going to train, seeing as you don't want to be made to look like a bitch since you have a boxing heavyweight title.

Me too, but we're nobodies. We're not making 2 entire sports look bad.

I see both sides, but the fact that Toney looked so f'n horrible just makes harder to side with it being a good thing. I mean if it was like a one time 'experiment' to make money and , you know sooner or later someone from boxing would headline a ppv ahainst a semi- big name. Then it had to be done--agree or disagree. As long as they don't keep bringing in old washed up farts who just want to collect big paychecks like that...then I side with the "good thing'.

You're not a boxing fan though. Neither am I, but I know a little bit. He's a pretty big name in that sport, but there's not much crossover between MMA fans and boxing fans so it's no surprise.
