View Full Version : IYO: Who deserves to unify the Heavyweight titles
If the WWE were to go ahead and unify the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship than who do you think deserves to unify them?
On a personal note, I would love to see Edge unify both the prestigious Championships since he is one of the most hard working, established and deserving talent on the roster.
If they do it it'll probably be Jericho.
Jericho has been there and done that. It's time for someone else to shine.

1.) It would be expected that it would be Cena.
2.) It would make sense to let it be Orton.
3.) It would be interesting if they let it be Miz.

Well, with the reports in that they may want to do it during Wrestlemania, I think that effectively would eliminate Undertaker. Having only one title match to draw is one thing, but cluster-booking Undertaker in there is putting all of their eggs in one basket.
I can't see Jericho doing it again, but I can see him holding one of the titles going into the match. Have him run his mouth about how he's going to unify the titles again because he's the best in the world at what he does, etc etc.
If its Jericho on one end, I'd have to say Orton would be the one to do it. Jericho/Cena has been done to death, and Jericho/HHH has already main evented a Wrestlemania. Having a heel Jericho go up against a white hot Orton in the main event would be money.

I think it should be someone who has never been champ, like they did with Jericho in the first unification.
The Miz is probably the best candidate for this.

The thread reads who do you think deserves to be unified champ, if at all if happens, and not who will be unified champ.

You do realize of course that it will, sadly, never - in a gajillion years - be Christian.

Who deserves it? I'll say Chris Jericho, because I truly feel that he is the best performer with a realistic shot at doing it on that list. Also, I disagree with those who feel it should be someone new. You want to kick off this new era with a bang. You can't go wrong with Jericho, whose first Undisputed Championship reign was bungled by the WWE.
Just hearing that reaction as Jericho stands tall, holding both the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship...again -- there's a special moment for me. Jericho -- still the only man to be able to claim to be the first Undisputed Champion. Now, not to get completely unrealistic on people, but I'd mark out if Jericho beat Cena and The Undertaker in the same night to do it. In today's day and age, that would probably be the equivalent of beating The Rock and Stone Cold to win both the WCW Championship and WWE Championship.

I can't believe I am correcting Noid but Jericho has won the WWE heavyweight title and the WCW heavyweight title, not the WWE title and the World title. So if it happens this time, it will be his first time. Booyah!

I would LOVE for CM Punk to somehow gain steam. Get back in the main event picture. Win the Rumble & then the title & go into Wrestlemania against Chris Jericho.
Jericho vs Punk to unify the titles.
Honestly.....does it matter who wins??? I chose Punk in the poll but either is a grand choice.
Anything else would be uncivilized.

I personally hope its John Cena vs. The Undertaker at Wrestlemania to unify them. Taker will win, but Cena will pose a good threat for him. They can always have Miz give everybody a heart attack and have him come out only for Taker to beat him as well and become 20-0 and retire. It would work very well in my opinion, plus somebody had to lose when they cash in eventually.
I can't believe I am correcting Noid but Jericho has won the WWE heavyweight title and the WCW heavyweight title, not the WWE title and the World title. So if it happens this time, it will be his first time. Booyah!
OMG.
That would make him a 2-Time First Ever Undisputed World Champion, which technically doesn't make sense, which only makes it more awesome.
Book it.
Savage was the first ever undisputed world champion.

I got a feeling they will give it to Wade Barrett, just to put him over, as an even more serious threat. It'll make Swagger's title run look weak in comparison
If Jericho wins it, it wouldn't mean shit. He will always be looked at as lower than your Stone Colds', Rock, or HHH. Especially if they book him as a weak champion afterwards
I think they'll blow their load on someone new like Wade Barrett

It's a bit of a mix and match. The WWE Title is the same active history, with a different belt; the World Heavyweight Title is essentially the same as the WCW belt, but arguably a different history (although the WWE can't seem to work out whether or not they want to count it as the WCW Title).
I was referring more to the mere visual image of Jericho holding up two representative belts, forcing them together into one entity -- something he, and only he, has done before.
I think it should be someone who has never been champ, like they did with Jericho in the first unification.
The Miz is probably the best candidate for this.
Chris Jericho had already won the WCW Championship when he defeated The Rock back in October '01. The Rock went on to defeat Jericho and retained the belt only to lose it back to Jericho at Vengeance where Jericho also won the WWF Championship for the first time from Stone Cold in order to become the first Undisputed Champion in the history of WWF.

Of these choices i'd have to go with Randy Orton he's one of the biggest names in the company and he's had the fewest of title reigns compared to some of the others listed and it would be great for him to feud with Jericho afterwards.

Chris Jericho won't do it again, as he did it the first time, so I dont think WWE would go with him again.
If the question is who DESERVES to unify the Titles, its:

Edge vs Cena would be a good WM main event they have had amazing matches so this could be a possibility.
Also Orton vs Cena would make sense, Orton wins then Cena turns heel (maybe?)

HHH... been there done that.
Jericho.... been there done that.
Cena... just doesn't need it.
They need to let someone unify the titles who deserves a final rub to be pushed into the upper escalon of main eventers. I find it interesting that no one has considered that the WM main event next year could be a Triple Threat rather than a standard Title v. Title match for Unification. If I were booking the Title Unification match for Mania, here's the direction I would go...
Leading up to Mania, we need to setup two BIG guys to be in this match. More importantly, it would have to be a big face and a big heel, that's just obvious. Naturally, they won't miss out on having their company man, Cena, in a Unification match, so there's your WWE champion right there - unless they decide to have him compete against Taker and the streak, but I digress. Your World Heavyweight Champ could be returning heel HHH (since he was so low on the card last mania, it only seems natural to put him back at the top for 2011), Edge (since he and Cena have so much history), Jericho (if he doesn't leave since they have sort of hinted at the start of a rivalry with Cena in the last few weeks), or my dark horse candiate, CM Punk (the promo machine). If it's HHH or Edge, the 2011 Royal Rumble winner is a no brainer... one Mr. Randall Keith Orton. The history between Orton and Cena, or Orton and HHH / Edge practically writes itself. He spends the next several weeks stalking both champs like the Viper that he is, teasing his decision for Mania only to have the WWE champ and World Heavyweight champ start feuding with one another. When the Unification match is finally announced, Orton, the Rumble winner, is thrown in the Wrestlemania main event mix without a worry. He gets both guys, no choice necessary. Now we get one heel champion, one face champion, and the ultimate tweener who is a blend of both - Orton - It would be a perfect main event worthy of Mania with guaranteed high buy-rates.
Hell... if you really want to make things interesting, turn it into a fatal fourway match at the last minute by having the Miz decide to cash in MITB at Mania for the Title match. No way he would choose to miss out on a big moment like that where it would cement his Main Event status.
The final result is a perfect balance of characters in the ring - two faces (Orton and Cena) and two heels (HHH/Edge and The Miz). The best part is that this match setup would ideally keep the audience guessing until the final pinfall. After all, we can already see from this forum that a lot of people expect HHH to be the guy to unifiy the titles. No one ever expects to see Cena lose. Orton is too hot right now for people to NOT THINK he would win. And The Miz has self-proclaimed his imminent moment of greatness. A title unification for him would be a perfect way to cap off his title quest.
As you can tell... The only guys who I think are "worthy" to unify the heavyweight titles at Mania from a momentum standpoint are Cena, HHH, Jericho, Miz, Orton, and Punk. However, if we are talking about the person they NEED to give it to... it HAS TO BE Orton or The Miz. How can it even be a question?
Orton simply because he is on fire right now. If they can realistically keep the title off of him till Wrestlemania, or just resist giving it to him before then... period.... the crowd will EXPLODE when he wins both. The moment would be unreal and an instant WWE classic.
The Miz because the WWE office has already reiterated how high they are on the guy and how they plan to go the whole 9 yards with him. Have him cash in at WM at the Unification match and watch the future fade as the Miz skyrockets to awesomeness!
My other less likely suggestions would be Barrett or CM Punk:
Barrett because he is the future of their company, but it might be too soon to give him both AND main event WM so I would be conflicted with this.
Punk because we all know he has what it takes to carry both titles and the man deserves to be on both shows. The guy is a main eventer who has gotten stuck in the mid-card scene for the last several months. It is time for him to return where he belongs. Once again though, although I see Punk as a main eventer, I do not necessarily see him in the Wrestlemania main event.

I have no probs with the tag team titles and the women's/diva's titles just being one dual branded show instead of 4 titles for two people and two female titles for the two shows. The talent is not deep enough to make a solid women's division, or a tag team scene. However, WWE have a LOT of main event stars and rising mid carders that would make the most of having one major title and one minor title (IC and US) per show. It makes sense to have two major titles. This way no show can be seen as the B show when the champ is mainly on one show.

Actually Daniel Bryan would be good at unifying the titles,he is new,has the most to gain and would be put over .I donnae see them doing it with any veterans..taker is retiring, Cena may be the poster boy but it just doesn't look right with him, maybe Orton but they will have to play it right with him.
