View Full Version : Is Luke Gallows any good in the ring?

I tend to tune out SES stuff because Punk is boring, but I did watch the match with Punk/Gallows v Big Show this week, and I was struck by Gallows' "look". However, the match wasn't exactly a wrestling classic. Entertaining, yes. Technical, no.
So can he wrestle? Anyone got any Youtube vids? I tuned him out entirely in his previous persona, save for the occasional eye roll, but now I'm curious.

No, I'd rather have Mike Knox who looked intimidating and was good in the ring. And he's from my hometown as well.
Hes just an average, generic big man.

He's obviously nowhere near the level of people like Benoit/Angle/Danielson etc, but he does a great job in his role as the muscle of the SES.

He's relatively agile for a big guy, but otherwise its been hard to judge because he really hasn't been put in much of a position to wrestle.

<font color=goldenrod>He's okay. He's young and WWE clearly like the guy since he's gone through like 4 different gimmicks already. That being said if this is the end of SES I'm not too sure what else he'd do. Not too sure I'd buy him as a revenge-seeking face, and him and Mercury as a random tag team without Punk seems kinda meh (although the division does need help).
I thought for sure that when Gallows was repackaged, we'd get a Gallows vs. Slam Master J squash match with Gallows contronting his former "enabler". Sad thing is I bet the reason it never happened is because WWE forgot they used to be a tag team.</font>

He's def just Ok in the ring, but we really don't have much to go by... Seems the average big guy type wrestler... Like my man said above, I too would rather see Mike Knox in this role...

He's big and agile but right now he's kind of generic in the ring. If they give him a chance to do his own thing once he breaks away from the SES he could make it, but right now I'm getting Bull Buchanan 2.0 from him.

He got kicked out of the SES this past Smackdown so I'm not sure of his future. I'm also not sure if this is the end of SES, maybe they'll replace him. Like I've said, plenty of generic big men in FCW... If they can hold out for awhile maybe Skippy can be there muscle, "pured" from his steroid dependance

I like Luke Gallows without really being interested in him. He's great at playing a character, although his mic skills, while decent, are made to look much more shitty in segments with Punk. He's really learning how to construct a match, and I think there's a lot of potential there. Basically, he reminds me of Albert/A-Train/Giant Bernard during his early years with the WWE. I don't think he's amazing, and he's not my cup of tea, but in time I can see him growing to being appreciated more as a big man.
The more I think about it, the more I don't want this Straight Edge Society thing to end. You can have Big Show in a match with CM Punk next week, and Punk does his smart heel stuff to try and beat Big Show, but just as it looks like Punk is about to lose, Gallows runs in and attacks Punk. Set this up further by having Punk cut a promo earlier about how he's realised that people aren't worth saving, and there's only one man worthy of Straight Edge, and that is CM Punk.
Gallows attacking Punk could seem like the start of a feud, but you can segue that into Gallows informing Punk that he technically beat Big Show, and Punk gets a sly smirk on his face, likes this killer instinct inside Gallows, and re-unites with his enforcer. It'd piss off the fans who want to see Gallows destroy Punk. Then you just do the original SES thing with Punk and Gallows as the only two members.
Undertaker vs. Festus was one of the better Smackdown matches I saw last year (or was it 08?). I reckon he can go with the right guy.

This was always my favourite Luke Gallows / Festus match. Just two big brawlers punching the shit out of each other. Not everyones cup of tea- But worth watching just for the flurry of stiff punches at the first few minutes.

CM Punk is not boring...This Big Show feud is just so poor and the writing for the SES is what has been boring.

Yeah Gallows reminds me of A-Train who I was a huge fan of.
Mike Knox being released still makes me sad. The guy was tremendous.
