View Full Version : What non MMA athlete do you think could complete in UFC??

James Toney didn't really work out but I was reading an interview with Matt Mitrione and they asked him what other NFL player could transition to MMA.. He mentioned Shockey cause they were buddies when they both played for the Giants, just because of Shockey's intensity and work ethic.. He mentioned Ray Lewis cause anyone who is a football fan know Lewis murders motherfuckers all the time..

The last was interesting to me cause he said Patrick Willis (MLB for the Niners).. I am a HUGE fan of his cause he played at Ole Miss and is an all around BEAST.. He is also already training with Randy Couture.. (Matt Lienart has been also, but he is a pussy..

So, which "crossover" athlete do you think has a chance to "make it" in the UFC or MMA in general??

Guys who probably also wrestled in college would be the best bet. I know Roddy White was a state champ in wrestling. Chris Cooley, Ray Lewis were also wrestlers, that's all I can think of.

I know Jay Ratliff wrestles and trains in MMA in the offseason, and is a big fan. If he could make 265, with the speed he has for his size, he'd be scary.

Orlando Jordan was an all-american wrestler at Boise State and has a boxing background. He also looks like this nowadays so that might be fun

I think a dominant Orlando Jordan esque flamingly gay/ bizarre heavyweight MMA fighter would be the most amazing thing in sports history. Imagine Brock Lesnar, but instead of Sable at his fights... it's a cross dressing dude that looks like Sable. People would be pissed but wouldn't be able to do a damn thing about it.

As far as non MMA athletes... he's too old to get into it now, but with the proper training I think Ray Lewis would have been a beast. He has the physicality, emotion, work ethic, and will to win to thrive in that sport... Shawne Merriman is another guy who could do well and I think he actually does train in the sport as a part of his off season program.

They drug test in MMA, so that's no dice for Merriman, washed up now anyways.

Mike Tyson would get dominated.

Mike Tyson would get killed now. Mike Tyson in his prime would probably have punched people until they died via KO shot followed by swift ground and pound. Plus he's shown an interest in MMA for a very long time now. Tyson had the skill, speed, footwork and power to dominate stand up, and apparently he soaked up training advice like a sponge. If he had been retrained to account for takedowns while standng and got some wrestling training (imagine his slams), he would be lethal.

The first guy BC posted is Richie Mc Caw. The guy is a rugby legend, and captain of the NZ national team the All Blacks. Hes a head down ass up kind of guy and an absolute warrior i nthe rough stuff on the rugby field.

No fight training to my knowledge but exceptionally tough by anyones standards and seems to have the work ethic of a small asian family.

Above Pic Sonny Bill Williams - I dont think much of him but hes a rugby league turned Rugy union star, a very naturally gifted athlete who has done a bit of boxing.

Brad Thorn - Just plain old tough was why I nominated him, another All Black and ex Rugby League star. Widely regarded as possibly the fittest All Black of all time. Has a reputation for holding the record for most chin ups in a weight suit at AB training camps.

Recent story about him is that someone beat his record so after a ful lcontact training session he went right back out, put extra weights on the suit and beat the record. Like Mc Caw always in the physical stuff, very determined and driven.

Shalck Burger - SA Rugby player, pretty much same deal as Thorn and Mc Caw, Super tough, extremly talented physically and just seems to have amazing mental fortitude.

Also for the rugby guys ad Pierre Spies - Reason, hes massive and quick and ticks all the already listed boxes also.

The original post of the thread should have been re-edited. Mike Tyson and Kurt Angle are widely known as experts in one type of fighting discipline...and hence, don't qualify as 'mixed martial artists.' Therefore, I am right and you are wrong. (haha).

But - to play along, I'll give another answer that is more relevant to this thread I guess. Probably someone from the National Hockey League that fights on a regular basi....oh wait a minute, does hockey count as a non-combat sport in the author's eyes? Since the author of this thread appears to be a complete idiot, along with most other posters in this thread, I'm going to go ahead and assume that Hockey doesn't count...since it entails fighting/combat.

Someone from the National Football League would be my answer. As to who? I can't be more specific since I don't watch too much NFL.

I admittedly didn't read the thread in its entirety. Big deal. Still - to say or imply that one should have "automatically assumed" that non-MMA athletes didn't entail boxers or collegiate wrestlers, is ludicrious. MMA stands for MIXED martial arts...implying, that the people competing in MMA are utilizing more than one form of martial art in said sport. In Boxing and Collegiate Wrestling, this is NOT the case.

Also - if you're going to criticize someone's common sense, atleast use the proper form of the word "YOU'RE" you utter and unfathomable moron.
