View Full Version : Do spoilers impact whether or not you watch a show?

Jim Ross said he didn't think spoilers hurt viewership. I'm really interested in whether the availability of spoilers actually hurts the viewership of taped shows like Impact or Smackdown. Have spoilers ever made you not watch a show, or do you tune in anyways regardless?

if a show is taped i most likely won't watch it. hate when things aren't live (sports wise)
Nah, I skim through the spoilers for SD on Tuesday and when I watch it, I end up forgetting the details anyway.

I don't read spoilers anyway so I'll have to say no.
If I read the spoilers I won't usually watch at all. Unless something incredible happens. Having said that, I have been pretty good at NOT reading spoilers recently.

This, because even if a show is gonna suck, if it's live you won't know until you watch it. By that time, you've given them ratings.

I don't care about spoilers because I watch the show for the show, not just the results.
Spoilers don't impact the ratings much. At worst, maybe a .1 or .2. It was seen with the live Impacts and can usually be seen with the RAW ratings.

Nah, but I obviously get how they could and I have friends that refuse to even check websites like this because they don't wanna know anything but what's going on on TV lol
For me, it adds some intrigue in seeing how things pan out. Text doesn't do what actually happens justice. Alberto del Rio would sound like nothing special in text, but on camera he shows a lot of potential is quite entertaining lol

I dont read the spoilers unless i know i wont be able to watch the show for whatever reason. Or sometimes just the TNA spoliers so i dont have to watch it.
When RAW is taped instead of live, the TPWW thread is usually 5-6 pages shorter than usual.
I think that this and the ratings patterns of both Smackdown and Impact go to prove that pre-taped results have a significant impact on ratings.

I've stopped reading them and it's made SD better for me.

Depends. I didn't watch wrestling at all, bar the odd WWE PPV,but skimmed through the Raw threads and SD spoilers.
When the Nexus thing happened, I downloaded Raw immediately and started watching regularly. Smackdowns still a pile of shit though, but better than iMPACT.
So if a show sounds good, I'll watch it. Spoilers kinda help and have got me back into watching Raw weekly and if it was taped, would avoid spoilers before watching it until it started being consistently shit again and I stopped watching.

If its a good show i'll watch regardless of the spoilers, the problem is Smackdown hasn't been as of late and taped Raws never feel quite the same.

I watch the spoilers to see if the show would be worth watching so what can I say? I know it's wrong to watch spoilers, but I can't resist...
I can't watch PPVs anyways so I usually watch the results as the show goes on.

You mean you 'read' the spoilers. ;)
Nothing wrong with it though.

No although spoilers for Smackdown do help in seeing if the show will be good or has a segment/match that is too good to miss.
I have a problem more of ever since Smackdown moved to MyNetwork, the show changes in channel number or time slot almost once every month or two. First it was moved to Fox, then changed its time, then moved again so its at the 800s for channel number.
Depends if it gets good reviews or not, if it looks crap, obviously I wont waste my time. Kills the buzz if I see that something big happens tho, I should really stop reading spoilers.

I don't usually bother with spoilers, but I also don't care.
If anything, spoilers might have a slightly positive impact on my viewership.

Yup, I could read spoilers and not care to watch the show even if I skim them sometimes. I enjoy watching RAW more than Smackdown, probably because of the day and the time it comes on, it just seems more relaxing. If it's on Friday and I'm home, I usually forget about it or get too distracted and remember about it an hour into it or so but not really care so much to put it on most of the time.
I guess it depends on what happens, if it's the same shit I usually care less.

I use to read smackdown spoilers and not watch...but usually because Smackdown just hasnt been that good. You would think with some of the great wrestlers they have they could compete with RAW. Seems like Smackdown is try outs for RAW if you can contend and put on a decent match with the likes of Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, Christian and a few other veterns. Not to many people seem to make there Debut on RAW.

Ha, exactly.

Stop being a douchebag.
Why watch the movie if the plot summary sucks?
