View Full Version : Create a drawing WWE tag division

This is taking the usual "let's create tag teams" thread a bit farther.

Basically, create a tag division that would be on par or a tier below the world championships in WWE and get a lot of exposure and focus on TV and PPVs. Basically it would be a major selling point in the product.

You may create up to ten teams using any currently signed WWE talent. 6 of these teams would be "career tag teams", in which all their angles and storylines revolve around tag team wrestling. You may also have one Freebird Rules-style stable of up to four members (counts as one tag team).

Also, explain how you would handle this division and which team(s) would be your cornerstones.

This sounds really good...

I wish we could higher two-three outside tag teams like WGTT, Beer Money and MCMG and maybe add a Super-Team like Orton/Cena or Punk/Jericho for a brief title run.

RAW

The Usos- Career Tag Team
Hart Dynasty- Career Tag Team
Sheamus and Wade Barrett- New, powerful team
John Morrison and Justin Gabriel- Career Tag Team
Daniel Bryan and William Regal- Team based on respect

Smackdown

Dudebusters- Career Tag Team
Team Perfection- Dolph Ziggler and Michael McGillicuddy- Common Goal Tag Team
S.E.S. Cm Punk, Big Show, Luke Gallows, Joey Mercury- Stable
MVP and Matt Hardy- Career Tag Team
Edge and Christian- Career Tag Team

Ok, I tried to do my best in getting 6 career tag teams...thats why Edge and Christian are included.

Lets fast forward to November. On the RAW side, Orton, Cena, and Miz are feuding over the WWE title. This leads to Barrett and Sheamus deciding that they need to prove their worth and dominate everyone on RAW that they belong on top. They say that they will win the tag team titles, and when everyone is eliminated, they will one day fight over the WWE title. This is my cornerstone team.

Daniel Bryan and William Regal are my team based on respect. They dress alike, so they look like a formidable team. This doesn't mean that William Regal has to go face, nor does it mean Daniel Bryan needs to turn heel. They just want to win.

Usos, Hart Dynasty, and Morrison and Gabriel are just kind of just there.

So apparently I've broken up Nexus, but its getting weaker and weaker at the moment, so a end by November isn't even out of the question.

Now Smackdown is loaded in the tag department. We still have Kane and Taker working with the belt, and maybe Mysterio, Kingston, and Swagger attempting to be number 1 contenders.

This division does bring out the tier below the main event.

You got your Dudebusters who really aren't going to go anywhere in my division, but they are a team nonetheless.

Ziggler and McGillicuddy end up as a team, with the whole perfection gimmick making easy friends.

Big Show decided to join the S.E.S. leaving a mega team of Big Show and CM Punk. And you can always freebird in Mercury or Gallows. Gallows and Show would be a pretty tough team to take down.

These are my two heel teams.

MVP and Matt Hardy reunite because this time they want to do things the right way as a tag team and win and hold onto the belts.

Edge and Christian reunite. They teased a feud between the two months ago right after the draft, when Edge said he didn't want to be on Smackdown and Christian put him in his place. Edge thought about it a lot, says he lost a lot of friends in the business, but Christian and himself have been friends long before they broke into the business. He apologizes. Edge said there are a lot of reekazoids out there and for the last nine years, all the other tag teams out there have been fighting over their belts and its time to get them back.

I realize I took a lot of main eventers out of single spots, but we still have a lot of other main eventers in those spots. It really does build good tag team main events. Show and Punk vs. Edge and Christian is a PPV match and maybe have Sheamus and Barrett beat Cena and HHH at a PPV would really solidify Barrett and Sheamus as a tag team and a power to reckon with.

I think they have the teams already..... just need to put more emphasis on them to make the fans actually give a shit about the belts again.....

I've designated under which brands these teams will form by using colour-coding. Obviously, red = RAW and blue = SmackDown!. I've formed these teams, and obviously you'd have the other current teams in the WWE stay together.

Career Teams

Los Aviadores
Hunico and Epico -- two mysterious men allegedly from legendary wrestling families, joining forces to make a name for themselves as a duo in the WWE. They'd be a perfect fit for SmackDown!, given the huge Hispanic audience the show attracts. Their fun, high-flying style would get over quickly, and allow them to become a signature career team of the division.

The Psycho Killers
They probably wouldn't be allowed to use the ring name -- but Johnny Curtis & Derrick Bateman have a team going down in FCW, and I don't see why they cannot continue that in the WWE. Bring them up as two guys that just work well together, and don't book them into obscurity like they do so many other teams.

305 Ballin'
The name needs some work, granted. Percy Watson finds himself on SmackDown! alongside his former WWE Pro on NXT, MVP. With MVP being the veteran, and Watson being an energetic young rookie, they could really catch on quickly with fans and get some momentum behind them fast.

Cryme Tyme
Let's face it -- JTG isn't really going the places he could have; Shad Gaspard has been sent down to FCW. Pair them back up together with an angrier attitude. No longer the fun-loving team, these guys are obsessed with carving their own niche in the tag team division.

The Straight Edge Society
Primo Colon shows up on SmackDown!, and he cuts a promo about how he fears he is going to fall into the same traps that have riddled so many people close to him over the years. He wants to be saved -- and the man who can do that is CM Punk. Paired up with Joey Mercury, Primo Colon & Mercury have separate histories as definitive Tag Team Champions, and that chemistry could really help them with staying power in the tag team division.

Nexus
While they are not an official tag team yet, I'd pair up the two guys who I think are the most valuable members of Nexus not named Wade Barrett. Justin Gabriel is already a good worker, and I feel that Heath Slater is underrated. Interestingly enough, their former NXT Pros, Matt Hardy & Christian, would also be teaming in the division. If they won the WWE Tag Team Titles, Nexus could also be the team that uses the Freebird rule, although that could also be used by The SES.

The Rotundos
Harry and Beau, brothers with a few screws missing, one we know and one we don't. I've never actually seen them work as a tag team, but as brothers they can put over a kayfabe chemistry between the two, at least. Maybe even give them the gimmick of bickering brothers who fight each other if they lose, but are then on the same page again the next time they have a tag team match (I've always wanted to see that gimmick).

Super Teams

Matt Hardy & Christian
"Hey, I respect you, Matt, "Hey, I respect you, too, Christian," "Remember when we were each half of two of the greatest tag teams of all-time?" That's how you get them together, and you use their veteran knowledge and pasts against each other to put them over as a tandem. To be honest, I couldn't decide whether or not to include these guys as a career team or just two guys who are friends and occasionally work together. I put them here because I think Christian could still be used in high-profile singles stuff.

Sheamus & Drew McIntyre
It has been mentioned on the air that they are apparently friends. They're two stars on the rise, and their violent attitudes match each other well. Sheamus drops the WWE Title to Triple H or someone, and then McIntyre ends up on RAW in an impromtu draft. Ultimate heel tandem running wild there. They probably wouldn't be a career team, as they both have so many singles credentials.

Chris Jericho & Jack Swagger
Sick and tired of being disrespected despite being naturally two of the best in the world at what they do, Chris Jericho & Jack Swagger join forces, despite their personal differences. With Jericho's years as a pro and Swagger's amateur credentials, they could become North American-American Tag Team Champions.

Putting Jack Swagger in a team with the Swagger Soaring Eagle would be immense. He wouldn’t have to tag with him all the time, but once in a while as an attraction could be entertaining.

Are you 12?

A bright, clear day is outside talking to you.

I feel ya. Sometimes I go days without a rep. I start getting all paranoid that I'm either being ignored or everyone hates me. Thoughts of suicide quickly follow.

Go outdoors.

I'd say quit constantly making singles stars into tag teams all the time. Just make a few and hire some legitimate tag teams: Tag teams that have a team name, matching ring gear, and the ability to use double team maneuvers flawlessly.

Classic examples...
The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty)
Badd Company (Paul Diamond and Pat Tanaka)
The Road Warriors (Hawk, Animal, and Power Warrior)
Demolition (Ax, Smash, and Crush)
The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart)
The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid)

The point is we need more legitimate tag teams to re-ignite the flame, to resurrect the tag team division out of the ashes like a phoenix, because in WWE, it's flatlining and in near death.

Basically I don't think this can be done with the current WWE roster. Too many forced and mis-matched tag teams like Bourne/Kofi running around.

WWE has done such a fine damn job of destroying the tag team division over the past five years that it's pretty much in complete shambles. To give it any respect, they would need to bring in established tag teams from outside the company.

- The Briscoes
- The Motor City Machine Guns
- The Young Bucks
- The Kings of Wrestling (who could stable up with CM Punk)
- Beer Money Inc.
- LAX (preferably Homicide & Hernandez)
- WGTT

I would even love to see AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels come in as a tag team and run shit. I'm tempted to add in the Dudley Boys as another possible team, but I honestly think that their time is up.

The concept of being a tag team seems dead in modern day WWE. Seems like they're always looking for the "Shawn Michaels" of the pairing and are quick to split them up.

Not sure we'll ever see a legendary Tag Team like a Legion of Doom or even a Nasty Boys tandem ever again.

Were Miz and Morrison the last great tag team? Not sure if I want to count Jerishow or ShowMiz, even though I loved both pairings.
