View Full Version : Matt Hardy: The Reinvention of a Career

Okay, this is something that’s been brewing in my head for a while. Matt Hardy is over, but that’s because of his association in a team years ago, and it’s time for him to move on. This thread is about what changes are needed to his character.

Hardy reminds me a bit of Bradshaw after WrestleMania XX. If you’d told me he’d become the WWE Champion at the time, I would’ve laughed, but he reinvented himself. That’s the kind of crossroad I see Hardy at. If he stays the same as he is now, he could easily be left behind. He has all the talent he needs to make it work and has improved enough in the ring that he could become something special. If he doesn’t, I fear he’ll always be trapped in his brother’s shadow and never really move on.

I’m hoping that he gets a makeover in terms of his look. Changing his music and getting rid of the beard could help. What Hardy should do is do what Stone Cold Steve Austin did while Bret Hart was taking time off and start calling out Triple-H. Talk him until he decides to answer Hardy’s challenge and face him at Survivor Series.

Should never have turned face again after his feud with Jeff. That was his best chance.

exactly but being jeff left it wasnt really his fault wwe had no choice and turned him back face asap but your right since then his career has died

His heel run got botched when he was drafted to RAW. I think the best thing they could do with Hardy at the moment is either release him, put him in a tag team with Christian (but that could weigh down Christian), or have him feud with Captain Charisma.

Matt Hardy is pretty crazy, so maybe they should make that his "gimmick?" Have Alberto Del Rio beat Christian when it comes time for their match, and afterwards, Del Rio looks to "Rey Mysterio" Christian's arm. Matt Hardy runs down for the save like Christian did for him -- and then turns on Christian, beating him down with the steel chair Del Rio was going to use.

Hardy can then cut a promo about how he made the Hardy name a gold-mine, and he's been constantly disrespected by his peers, WWE management and Christian -- who treated him like a child who needed protecting. He doesn't need protection; the WWE needs protection from him.

"The Virus" Matt Hardy then becomes a top heel on SmackDown!.

He has former child star syndrome and probably won't be able to get past it. I can't think of anything that he can do to make me change how I look at him.

Face it.. Hardy was never good at a singles contender. He is better when he is teamed up with his brother, just like D-von with 3D/Dudleyz.

If Jeff comes back, and they can revamp the tag team, then he has a legitimate future in the WWE.

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't go to TNA for the time being and team with Jeff and Shane Helms vs 3D.

Was the less exciting part of a good tag team about a decade ago. End of.

I respect what Matt has done, but I honestly can't stand watching him anymore. His promos aren't very good and he doesn't move around in the ring like he used to. I feel like he's given way more then expected of him and his body and in return he's a bit broken down and will never have the opportunity to have a good singles shot again.

Definitely agree that he should reinvent himself. He's had the same gimmick for the last seven years, and it's really a gimmick either, he's just a guy lol.

He should cut his hair for starters, that'll change him more than enough.

Maybe a haircut and a suit for some heel promos could make him more interesting?

Matt was definitely the brains of the two Hardy brothers, and OMEGA in general. He put just about everyone there on the map.

It's kinda sad to watch him spinning his wheels in WWE now. That guy has a great future as a promoter or a road agent once he retires...if he survives to retire.

His one shot was in 2005, and that return promo killed his chances.

I've always been a die hard Matt Hardy mark but I have to agree that at this point somethings gotta give. Matt needs to reinvent himself but even then I dout it'll go anywhere past an intercontinental Championship run. Matt is pretty much done at this point especially with WWE's 'youth movement' going on and even a revamped look and character won't save him from the inevitable fall. At best Matt can change and go out with style or continue down this path and forever be remembered as the other Hardy Boy.

<font color=goldenrod>Health issues aside, I think WWE dropped the ball twice, maybe three times with Matt. Mattitude was awesome, but he probably could have used that to elevate him even higher up the card. Eventually he could have evolved to Matt Hardy Version 2, and be a WWE Title contender. But still, I'll give it a pass because the other two instances are we more blatant.

He was shit hot in his 2005 return, and when he jobbed to Edge in the Loser Leaves Raw match he was made to look strong. They could have pushed him huge over on SmackDown and instead he just sorta floundered in the midcard.

More recently, I thought he would go places during his 2009 heel run, especially after beating Jeff at WM. He got his commupence at the end, which was fine...but moving over to Raw wound up being his undoing. Moving to Raw is death for most midcarders with momentum, and Matt was no exception. I was really disappointed when they moved him back over to SmackDown and his feud with Jeff got thrown right out the window.</font>

I was reading John Canton's "The John Report" - He "assumes" that Hardy will be gone by the end of the month. He stated that it's just a hunch basing his opinions off his tweets and some chatter or whatever.

Obviously that's not a news note and is not something I want quoted. Just relaying the info I read.

HUNCH. is the key word here, fellas.

I think Hardy suffered a lot from the "flip-flop" they did with his heel/face alignment. I feel that can really harm a character as the audience "don't know where they stand" with the character. We went from Matt literally trying to kill his brother to him coming out and saying "Ooops. My bad. I'm a nice guy now though".

The constant change of alignment is something that breaks the suspension of disbelief for me. That one was like a slap in the face to reasoned character progression.

Of course, I may be putting too much stock in that issue, maybe it's just that he got fat.

Matt: Christian, before you came out how did the catering table look? Do you think there's any corn dogs left in catering? Don't you lie to me either.... There probably isn't.... That fucker Punk's probably eating the last of them..... I hate being undercard.... If I get back there and end up eating salad and the meat no one wanted for the fifth straight week I'm gonna take it to twitter man.

Matt: Only God and twitter can judge me man so who the fuck are you?

1. Shave his head.

2. Get cool black and white long tights (not pants).

3. Use a new finisher, something quick that can be used at anytime on anyone.

This worked for Mutoh it can work for Hardy.

C'mon now. Jeff is NOT the more talented brother - on the mic or in the ring. However, he is the brother that more easily connects with the audience/put's his body on the line without a second thought.

Matt wants out and its very apparent so he can go to TNA and just not care about look or performance. So they should give him what he wants. His work in ROH was less then satisfactory.....

Sources tell me that Matt Hardy is the General Manager.

The WWE is working hard to trick the Internet community and it appears that they are pulling a Daniel Bryan. Removing a favorite and then bringing him back in another capacity.

Will this play well to the WWE Universe? We shall see...

He likes the INTERNET so much that they gave him a behind the scenes role while he works to get in shape. HOLLA!
