Nah, Marquadt slipped his leg out of Palhares' grasp, Palhares' turned to his corner or the ref and started pointing and Marquadt drilled him in the face while he was complaining. Then he pounded Palhares a bit more and the ref stopped it.

No leg grease apparently, Palhares is a stupid dickhead.

he had that leg lock right in place so i guess he was surprised that he got out of it so easily.

However, had marquart just been rubbing Vaseline into that part of his skin for a couple weeks before the fight, it would soak into the top layers and before the fight it would not be detectable until he started sweating which makes marquarts post fights comments interesting but who knows.

Even if he were greased up, stopping mid-fight to complain about it while lying unprotected on your back is a stupid move.

Also, Vaseline isn't absorbed by skin.

it will stay in the epidermis until you start to sweat. whether its absorbed or just hanging around unnoticed, is irrelevant.

Again, even if that were true, your sweat glands start below the epidermis and distribute sweat directly on to the surface of the skin. If you plugged vaseline down into your sweat glands day after day, you're more likely to block them, since vaseline is hydrophobic and will not dissolve in/mix with sweat.

There's a few other problems with the whole idea, but fundamentally that theory doesn't hold up. He either had vaseline on him before the fight or he didn't.

Similar situation for sebaceous glands, although they produce an oily secretion which would mix with vaseline, excessive vaseline use is more likely to block them, plus even if your idea was correct you could not control sebum secretion to time it for the start of a fight.

Man, I came to the MMA forum for violence, and I see intelligent debates on the human anatomy.

Who would have thought?

Well he purposely got sweaty before the fight, I call that brilliant personally.

Yeah, it's not like he's the first person to do it to avoid submissions or takdowns.

I'd like to read it if you can find it. Even if you think about it, if it actually works as you say, the guy doing it would have to not shower, not break a sweat and not cover the applied areas up for the whole time before the fight.
