After the Hart Dynasty hit the Hart Attack, they couldn’t have both just walked out of the door? Really?

Remove the ability to escape through the door. The door is so stupid, and I’d love to hear one reason for how/why the match benefits having it there for escape. Every match should have the door locked. They could have a match featuring a fatty like Mark Henry trying to pin a guy because he knows he’s too fat to climb out. The other guy knowing he has no chance of competing with Henry physically, desperately needing to escape over the top of the cage, is more entertaining.

I just don't understand why they have a ref now. What's the point of the cage if you can still win by pinfall or submission? It's just stupid. Climb the cage or walk out the door and be done with it. Leave the pinfalls / submissions for HIAC.

i would prefer the door to be locked the finish comes off better when they have to climb out.

Cage matches are fine as long as they make the rules clear. That shit on Monday was overbooked and stupid. Watch Angle vs. Mr. Anderson at Lockdown last year and you will see how it's meant to be done. Or C.M. Punk vs Jeff Hardy in Hardy's last match in WWE. JBL vs Eddie and many more have been some of the best matches of all time. Sometimes the door is an option, sometimes not. It depends on the finish really.

yeah the door is fucking stupid, makes the whole thing absurdly unrealistic.

I don't mind the door, if it's done right. For example:

Werent the early JCP/WCW cage matches setup so the only way to win was pinfall/submission, the cage was there to stop run ins/ count outs? Or was that just stipulations for certain matches?

Cage matches are great when done well, they're more of an attitude era thing, though.

Always loved when someone chained the door shut, made the match a hell of a lot better.

This. The concept of the cage was to stop inteference or to stop the heel from running away from the match and to those ends the match should end in a pinfall/submission.

I guess you can look at escape matches in 2 ways: you have to beat your opponent so bad that you can escape the cage or the winner is simply walking/running away from the fight.

I think from a logic standpoint there has to be a pinfall/submission finish. Otherwise, your int he territory of a Strap Match - what do you prove by beating a guy by touching all 4 corners?

If the door is locked and someone comes out and unlocks it, I'm cool with that as it is cheating.

Always loved the heel managing to cheat in a cage match. Sure i remember a cage match with hogan v flair in wcw, barbwire on the top to stop escapes, but the renegade i think, cut a hole in the cage to slip a weapon in, might have it confused with someone else though.

If the door serves a purpose during the match, i'm ok with it. One of my best cage match memories is seeing the NWO smash Ric Flairs head in the door. Gruesome.

There are some really good cage matches.

Punk vs Hardy
Jeff Hardy vs Johnny Nitro

Come to mind.

I also hate the idea of the door. Especially when they go halfway out the door (ala Jericho recently) and decide to re-enter the cage thinking they can pin or climb out for a "bigger win" or whatever....At that point you know they are going to lose for being cocky.

I say lock the fucking door and only use it for entering pre-match. Climb out or pin/submit only.

I am always down with that... But the rules were not very clear on Monday and I don't like the pinfall either, that was weird... But the Way Jericho put him in the walls coming off the rope was AWESOME...

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything in this thread. Define the rules, get rid of the door unless it's part of the match, get the ref out unless the point is to get a clear winner.

The door is stupid, except for periodic heel use. Pins and submissions are fine. Escape isn't the only reason to have a cage match.
