So this is the current indy darling and I can see why. Behind the crude graphics is a very deep crafting system in both single-player and multi-player (up to 64 players).

So punch a tree to get wood that you can turn into a crafting table, get some stone to make a basic pick-axe, carve out a hole in a cave, turn some wood into sticks and some sticks to coal to make basic torches to light your cave so at least you have shelter for the night.

Now, do you want to mine or garden? get some iron for armour and better weapons. It's currently free as the activation servers have crashed, and it's only just over 256k.

Just after that, I decided to give myself a second floor, then fell off the steps and injured myself only to find a skelton waiting for me. Loving this.

I've been thinking about messing with it, especially since its free-to-play at the moment, but I honestly don't have as much time to game these days.

It's fun as hell. Been playing it lately. Can't wait till the multiplayer is fleshed out more. Actual survival mode in MP will be fun eventually.

MP as it is though is fun just to blow the hell out of the world. Made an absolutely MASSIVE crater the other day with TNT. Had a friend and I get several stacks of TNT and load it all up in a big circle, underground, and with a trail leading to another cave which was also FILLED with TNT.

It took his computer about 4 minutes to catch up with all the explosions, and made two HUGE craters.

We've been doing some constructive MP instead of blowing shit up, shame one group rebelled peacefully though and made their own land complete with boarder.

This thing is pure evil. You start off thinking "there isn't much to this" and before you know it you've dug a hugely complicated mine system with branching tunnels and stairs and have started building yourself a tower. :'(

Whenever I start the game, I hear this weird high pitch hissing sound in my computer. It stops when the window loses focus, and starts again when it regains focus. Using the Linux client, but does anyone else get this? Figure it can't be a hardware problem since it ONLY happens with this and ONLY happens when it has focus. It only happens on the start page and the world select screen (both have slightly different sounds). Maybe the internal speaker's trying to do something?

I only realised today the game has sound. Wasn't working before and now the games even better.

lol yeah. There was a sound pack missing in one of the updates. Had to download it manually the other day.

Though, ironically, sound isn't working for me at all right now.

Yeah, the latest version only has sound if you run the game without an Internet connection.

Yeah, an update has fixed it. Found out I had to go into debug and hit S to activate it before.

Right now I'm stuck/lost in a mine I had dug without a pick. :'(

Just bought this after dishonestly trialling it for a bit longer than the "free weekend". My planned fortress will eat up some evenings. It's nothing special, but it it'll be better than the shacks I've only lived out of in the game so far.

I've been expanding my house little by little. As it is it's two stories and goes into a mountain. The entire upstairs is filled with 10+ chests because I tend to stockpile a lot of shit. My spawn point is by water and so far I have a glass bridge that goes from my house to the first island, as well as a tunnel system that goes to one or two other islands.

Plan on putting a mine cart on the glass bridge and having it connect all the little islands.

I've also begun building little cabins every so often so I have have refuge at night if I get lost.

Think I'll build a lava mote/fall next.

You're probably using the free classic version. Which isn't really that good, all you can really do is build stuff without tools etc.

Just started playing again today after (hopefully) ending the memory usage problem I was getting, basically making the game unplayable.

1.8 seems like good fun.
