What I'm hoping is that Nellie screws things up so much that Joe comes to Scranton to fire her and then Robert for letting it happen. She then demotes Andy back to sales and tells Jim to take the manager position or be fired too.

Requiem

^not a bad theory. Would probably leave it open for Dwight to get his spin-off.

Next Big Thing
03-18-2012, 04:57 PM
I still say Creed should have been made manager. They don't use him enough. You could still have the side stories like Erin and Andy or Dwight's quest for power, but with the added storylines that would come from everyone in the office trying to stay functioning each week in spite of Creed's weird shadiness and ineptitude. I think it would have more opportunities for laughs than Andy being pathetic for most of the season.

Lock Jaw
03-18-2012, 06:23 PM
Creed should never have any sort of power or prominence. He works exactly where he is. In the background. Being creepy and weird.

Hanso Amore
03-19-2012, 10:56 AM
I feel like Creed would get old if he was used more. Part of the greatness of him is that is always seems to come out of nowhere.

<font color=goldenrod>So this is a couple weeks old, but apparently Paul Lieberstein is stepping down as executive producer and is going to spend most of his time working on the Dwight spin-off.

Meanwhile, Ed Helms is said to be joining Mindy Kaling's pilot. It's not known yet if he'd have to pick between the shows if the pilot were actually picked up...but if he did leave it'd be a big loss. And on top of all that - contract talks are apparently stalling with Krasinski, Fischer, and Novak. 2 of the show's main characters plus a major creative force. Add that to Dwight most likely leaving no matter what and the prospects of the show living to see a 9th season are bleak to say the least. Shame really, I've enjoyed this season a lot.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>This week's ep was just...weird. The last episode was mainly focused on pretty much the entire office wanting to get rid of Nellie and yet this week it just felt like everybody had accepted her, even showed signs of actually liking her even though she was straight up evil early on in the episode. Nobody (accept for Erin obviously) seemed to want to stand up for Andy or feel any sort of sympathy that his job and money had just been taken from him, and it definitely made me feel bad for the guy. Was so pumped when he snapped and punched the wall.

I was glad to see Ryan get plenty of screen time this week. He's such an over-the-top douchebag that it's just hysterical. It does seem that the writers are planting the seeds for Ryan, Kelly, and Andy to depart though. Also for my money the line of the night went to Toby with his deadpan "HR is a joke, I can't do anything about anything."</font>

Next Big Thing
04-22-2012, 08:41 PM
I don't get where they're going with this outside of them just planting the seeds for an awkward turnover in cast members... which doesn't make for very good comedy for the most part. Andy going throwback and punching the wall was good even though they telegraphed it by showing the clip from the last time he did it.

Blitz
04-23-2012, 02:53 AM
I like the Nellie character. I think she's the closest thing to Michael Scott the show should have. But the way she's implemented is just so fucking strange. She's presented like she has a total disconnect to reality. Just weird.

Since James Spader is leaving at the end of the season (assuming this isn't the last season), I really hope Gabe gets the Saber CEO slot somehow. I love that character so much, and he needs more screen time.

MVP
04-23-2012, 05:00 PM
I don't get the need for guest stars every week on this show. Nellie taking Andy's job makes little sense and her part should have just ended after the Tallahassee storyline.

Evil Vito
04-28-2012, 10:41 PM
<font color=goldenrod>After watching this week's episode, I'm rooting for a massive cast overhaul even more. I just think they've run out of ideas for the current crop of characters. Dwight not understanding the concept of a silent auction was funny, but the rest of the episode was completely forgettable.</font>

itsmeJD

Yeah, he was signed for limited episodes because he joined the Mindy Kaling show on FOX, so I'm not sure if/when he's set to return. This show has been more depressing than funny in my opinion. I don't like the Jim/Pam/Boom Mic Guy saga at all. HOWEVA, Clark has been a bright spot and his interactions with Dwight give the show actual comedy at times. All in all, it's time for the end.

Thursday nights will be strange though. It was the only time I really watched an entire block of t.v. for the Office, Parks, 30 Rock and Community. 30 Rock and the Office are done and I wouldn't be surprised if Community and Parks weren't that far behind.

Kris P Lettus

The decline of The Office was the birth of Parks and Rec.. Greg Daniels and Mike Schur leaving to create it was when it started going downhill.. Parks is still getting great ratings so I don't see it going anywhere..

It just seems like a complete waste that they spent most of last season establishing Andy as the new boss, only for him be in like 5 eps this season and just disappear. I know it's not the writers' fault that Ed Helms took the Mindy job, but it's still a bummer.

I agree. I knew he'd end up being the replacement, but I didn't really want him there. I know people find the Andy Bernard character funny, but I never felt like the character was one they could build the show around in the vein of Michael Scott. I enjoyed him more when he was given a smaller role in the show.

Requiem
02-11-2013, 12:09 PM
Which is worse cause it's like a big "fuck you" to a show that deserved a way better send off than him butchering the job he replaced. I liked what they had been doing with Andy, UNTIL he turned back into an asshole. I liked endearing Andy trying to make the office like him as the new boss. Then the shit with Robert California kept happening and he went from endearing back to asshole suddenly and it seemed really stupid and I'm kind of mad that they did now that I see what Andy has turned into. Goes away for a while, comes back and ruins the entire Erin development while away that they spent FOREVER fucking developing.

Kris P Lettus
02-13-2013, 12:08 PM
wait what

how did he "ruin" the erin development??

if anything this past week pushed that forward

Requiem
02-13-2013, 05:04 PM
If by forward, you mean what everything typically does regardless of what's actually happening, then I guess.

They set up this romance between them that took forever to develop, went through a bunch of bumps, but actually seemed destined to work. Then he goes on that retreat, comes back more of an idiot. Then leaves for a few months and comes back a complete tool, and now Erin dumped him for that other guy. It's pretty clear to me there's no way Andy and Erin end up together at this point. The other new guy is too much of a nice/normal guy and Andy is a trainwreck now. The only way I could see them together is if the writers decide to be MORE ridiculous and put them together anyways. It wouldn't make sense though and wouldn't be nearly satisfying, because I wouldn't want such an idiot of a character like the current Andy to actually end up with Erin.

Why did they do it? I don't 'get' where the show is coming from right now. I could see the Jim/Pam thing happening. Them having issues and Jim having big new opportunities that would explain why the show is going to end. It ties up things, and having them go through some bumps is just status quo for their relationship. I GET that.

I don't get why they wasted so much time on the Andy/Erin thing just for them to turn his character into a douchebag and for her to end up with somebody else. I LIKED what they did with Andy until that point. Like I said, he was endearing and honest. He was a good fit for the job. They spent YEARS developing his character. He started off as a guy who couldn't take a joke, had anger issues and a massive ego, and gradually developed into a calmer more well balanced person, albeit a bit self loathing from time to time. I don't understand the reasoning for rushing along this development to turn him into a worse douche than when he started.

The Rogerer
02-13-2013, 05:53 PM
Who cares. Erin is a cardboard cutout looney tunes character. I can't care about her at all.

Kris P Lettus
02-13-2013, 06:25 PM
I thought you were talking Erin/Pete not Erin/Andy.. Either way it makes sense to break them up at this point cause I have a feeling Andy will be getting fired on thursday and it will be Ed Helms last episode.. Wallace will prolly make Dwight the manager leading into the final bit of the show..

Absolutely gutted that it's almost over, and not even a cameo from Michael Scott. I understand why, and the reasoning, but woulda been a helluva mark out moment.

Actually trending on Yahoo now that Michael Scott WILL have a cameo in the finale, and all the denials have been to attempt to keep it quiet. Excited as fuck for finale now.

I agree with you about Andy. That was a hard character for me to like from the beginning.

I liked when they started to make him endearing and really care about the job he was doing. When he first became manager, and the whole little bit with the tattoos, it seemed like the rest of the office was backing him. It looked like he had the potential to be a good manager, as if he had finally gotten his shit together.

Then the Robert California bit happened, which was just weird in general, and it changed him and he turned into a complete and utter moron again. Really poor writing, because he wasn't even someone anyone could relate to. He was just an idiot making horrendous decisions after everything had started to go alright for him.

I will be excited if this happens. I have heard reports that he made a surprise appearance at the wrap party, but nothing about an actual on screen appearance.

Well, it is over, and it feels very weird that there will be no more.

I didn't crack at Michael Scott's return but cracked at the last bit. It was a fantastic finale- one that many shows should learn from.

The only thing I felt they might have included was revealing who the real Scranton Strangler was.

The Scranton Stranger is in jail they got the right person. That storyline ended months ago. If they had the wrong person Nellie would have been a great choice.

Tobie kept talking about how they possibly got the wrong person. I wonder if when he went to interview the person in jail, he would have realized the real strangler was still out there and he managed to catch him/her in the finale. I suppose there was no time for this though, so I am not really complaining.

Teared up a bit during Andy and Pam's last interviews.

Good stuff. Last couple episodes were as good as anything the show has done over the years. Definitely teared up a few times. :'(

Creed finally got some attention too, and he was great. So sad the show is done now, but it needed to happen.

I wish they could have got Steve Carrell to show up as Michael Scott during the panel thing. Seems like the documentary crew, who flew Stanley in, would definitely try to get the dude who was the boss for the majority of it to come in.

I guess... maybe.... it is showing that Michael Scott has "grown" in his time away, and refused to be in the spotlight again.... but showed up to support his friend at his wedding.

<font color=goldenrod>That's what I took out of it. I kinda assumed that everybody who worked there was offered the chance to fly in and participate, but a lot of people declined.

So happy he showed up for the wedding, though. The finale wouldn't have been the same without one last talking head and "that's what she said".</font>

The finale was absolutely perfect. Tied up all the loose ends and sent everyone out on an uplifting note.

I thought the final season overall was very well done. I didn't care much for season 7 or 8. The show felt like it lost a lot of its essence. Obvs losing Michael Scott had a big part of that, but the show just felt rudderless, and like it was trying to force angles for the sake of storytelling (the whole Jim/Pam thing). The last season seemed to find its way again though. I think Helms is funny and all but I didn't much care for any of his storylines at all and thought he sucked as regional manager. I dunno, I get that he's a star and all but I don't think he really "carried" the show as well as he was supposed to. At least not for me. But following up Carell is a pretty tough task so I don't fault him too much.

Part of Helms stint "carrying the show" was spent filming the Hangover 3 so it's not all his fault..

They should have just made Dwight the manager ala the UK version and finished out the last few seasons that way.. The whole boat/trip return seemed forced..

<font color=goldenrod>The problem with Helms is that Andy on the whole was such an unlikable character. Just always came across as a tremendous asshole.</font>

Untrue..

Andy Bernard was byfar my favorite character in season 3 & 4..

I just think he would've been better served as being more of a role player as opposed to being "the guy", tasked with carrying the show.

And yes, obviously it's subjective.

As I said, I think they should have made the show about Dwight being in charge and Jim fucking with him.. Helms could've carried the show but he couldn't turn down a franchise like the Hangover..
