The apparent classic...

I've never seen it, but it's a classic of all time. Well, dunno bout US release, but there's a new restored using various versions release that's on it's way.

Been wanting to check it out for some time now. Maybe now is the time! Anyone seen this? - Any variant of the movie?

I have seen it, and remember enjoying it both visually and for the story.

I've seen the 153 minute restored version from Kino, but i'll definetly buy the newest version on Blu Ray in november. It's a very impressive film, amazing sets and special effects for it's time (for any time really) and flawless cinematography. There are some contrivances in the story and the ending is pretty bad, but overall it works as an allegory for totalitarianism. Outside the silent comedies I would say this is the most accessible silent film ever made so if it sounds like something that interests you then check it out.
