From Foley's Twitter:

I am thrilled to announce that I will be teaming up with Union Square Media to do a major movie based on my life story!

Press Release:

Union Square and American Original to Produce Feature Film Based on the Life Story of Professional Wrestler Mick Foley

NEW YORK, Sept. 27 /-- Union Square Agency (USSE Corp., Pink OTC Symbol: UCRP) will showcase the life story of one of the most hardcore wrestlers of all time, Mick Foley.

Union Square's Media division will produce the film with American Original founder Jeff Katz. Foley's managers, Michael Braverman and Barry Bloom, will also executive produce. Christopher J. Scott will be directing. The film, written by Scott and Foley, will tell the unmasked story of Mick's obsessive desire to become one of the most popular wrestling icons of all time. Foley is a New York Times bestselling and critically acclaimed author, having written two autobiographies, a series of children's books with a new memoir on the way called COUNTDOWN TO LOCKDOWN, from Grand Central Publishing launching on October 1st.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to finally bring my story to the screen. With Union Square as my tag-partner, I foresee many entertained and/or shocked audiences in our future," said Mick Foley.

Katz, who previously served as VP of Production at 20th Century Fox and New Line Cinema, founded the production company American Original. Their focus is to develop original and adapted film/ television properties and present them to the market place. Katz' credits include films such as SNAKES ON A PLANE, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, SHOOT EM UP, FREDDY VS. JASON and comics BOOSTER GOLD, CROSSHAIR and FREDDY VS. JASON VS. ASH.

"I spent three years in the wrestling industry before coming to Hollywood and always found Mick's story to be highly emblematic of the classic American success story. I've admired him as a man and entertainer for years and couldn't be more thrilled to return to my wrestling roots and help put Mick's story on film," said Jeff Katz.

Union Square Media has a reputation for cutting edge content and quality production in both the sports and lifestyle spaces. It is positioned to create, produce, develop and sell all forms of media with a progressive Emmy Award winning team.

"Mick's life story is an incredible journey that artfully balances his obsessive passion for the ring with the love for his family and friends around him. A story that is funny, shocking and inevitably triumphant. Both his existing fans and cinema fans alike will love it," said Director Christopher J. Scott.

Cool.

I always thought a movie about Foley would be the goods. My question is, will they find a way to intersperse the shot film with actual footage from his matches in Japan, WCW, ECW and the WWF? Or will everything be recreated from scratch? Also, who will play Foley? Will he play himself? Will The Rock play himself? Or Austin? Are the WWE and Vince McMahon involved in this at all? Can Foley act?

Will it be a piece of shit?

Sounds like a great Idea but I don't want it to end up like the Sting movie.

Yeah, this is going to be a problem. If WWE isn't in on it they won't be able to use any of the names or a majority of the main events in his career. I don't have a problem with reshooting everything (probably for the best), but it's going to be weird if they can't use real names and just create an alternate universe. The only way around this short of bullshitting names and gimmicks would be for it only to encompass his life up to Japan. Or just use The Wrestler's universe, but again, wouldn't really be the Mick Foley Story.

I don't think I'd want to see him thrown off the Lockdown Cage by Sting as called by Don West.

First thing that came to my mind was Hardcore Justice and all the trademark rights owned by WWE. Can the movie even mention the letters ECW, WWE etc?

They could mention them IF it's a documentary. They couldn't portray it as such as part of a fictional/autobiographical film without WWE's permission.

From the line of films from that guy Katz, it looks to be more like a feature film sort of thing.

I hope they dont forget the "Lost in Cleveland" part.

Hell, that could be a whole movie right there.

Aged wrestler suffers a concussion/memory loss and winds up living on the streets of Cleveland with no memory of his true identity.

I really don't see Vince McMahon letting his company, his people, or his history be involved in the movie unless it were being produced by WWE Films.

Xero

Isn't Foley nearing the end of his contract? I know he's been taking time off because of his limited number of dates signed.

That plug was a huge WTF. It makes no sense to plug it unless there's something up. Either WWE wants him back (which I don't doubt) or they're in talks. It'd be one thing if he wasn't with the company, but he's with the "competition".

This movie would probably be WWE's biggest film venture if they were to be involved. They should capitalize.

I don't think he would want to go back to WWE, he's said it in numerous interviews that he wouldn't wrestle there or didn't like being there at all because of how Vince tried to control everything.

Perhaps Vince wants him in the HOF?
