Since this is the MM game we've been waiting for, this deserves it's own thread.
Everyone bar Kalyx read past this post. I'm sorry Kalyx, you might ruin this :'(
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/10/mega-man-legends-3-invites-fans-to-actively-participate-in-game/
"It's been ten years since the last Mega Man Legends game," Inafune reminded the captive New York Comic Con audience, before unveiling a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Mega Man Legends 3 Project for Nintendo 3DS.
Why the "Project" in the title? Inafune clarified that this "project" would be a collaborative experience -- but not in the Mega Man Universe kind of way. Instead, the community will be able to actively participate in the development of the game. The Capcom-Unity website will be updated with a "Dev Room," where fans will be able to submit their gameplay ideas, boss ideas, character ideas, and more. In the future, fans will be able to vie for a position in the game's voice cast.
The first challenge for fans is to pick the next heroine in the Legends series. Nine different artists, including Inafune himself, are offering designs. The fan-driven vote will determine the female star of Legends 3. Keep an eye on the Dev Room for your chance to decide the future of the long-dormant Legends series. Update: Now with first video, after the break!
I really hope some intelligent people have input to this...

Would be better if they were accepting fan artwork for the characters, instead of just voting on concept art.

The Legends games are my favourite of the Megaman series so I'm really excited for this. I'd love to submit ideas and vote for stuff. It's a pity I have no chance of being in the voice cast slot that's open to one fan because I'm not a voice actor and I'm guessing a Scottish accent wont blend in well with the anime-esque American accents.

I know everyone is entitled to an opinion and all that crap, but this literally just made me cringe.

I've played the other games and they were good but I never really liked them more than I liked Legends. I didn't play the old NES Megaman games until recently. They were ok but not as great as everyone says, in my opinion.
Megaman X5 for the PS1 is good but I just enjoyed playing Legends more. At the time, I prefered RPG like games to the platform/shooter style and Legends just stuck with me.
It's irritating when someone seems to really like something that's clearly subpar and/or bland, isn't it? That's how I feel everytime everyone ejaculates over CoD, Halo or WoW.

I hated Megaman games when I was younger because I wished they were more like Mario and Sonic.
I guess when I played them more as I got older I started to appreciate them more. It's way more of a challenge than an adventure. Grinding it out and playing one level a bunch of times to figure out how to clear it is pretty fun once you realize that's the point, I think.

In that regard, megaman games were pretty easy compared to Ninja gaiden, castlevania, and contra.

I was better at Castlevania than Megaman when I was younger. I was probably better at Castlevania back then than I am now really. I dunno why

I've been playing all kinds of Castlevania on my buddy's mame arcade in celebration of October. Ghouls n Ghosts, Zombies Ate My Neighbors and all kinds of horror movie based games too.

Dear friends,
The MML3 project has not just changed my life, but actually encompassed it for months. Seeing that project come to a close has been very difficult, and something I’ve tried to mentally deny, but alas, we have been confronted with the situation and must all face it together.
As you know, the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been one of sky-scraping ambition--to create a game which incorporates large quantities of tangible, meaningful input from the fans.
One of the fundamental aims of the Legends 3 Project was to provide the game's loyal fans with a level of transparency the likes of which had never been offered by a major game developer. The team developing this game provided in-depth articles detailing the various processes that going into this game's creation, from voice recording to the creation of 3D character models. They talked about the office atmosphere and all of the ups and downs of the game development process with a degree of candor that was, to be perfectly frank, often quite concerning for the rest of the company.
Why was it a concern to everyone else at the company? Because the thing is, there are tough realities in this industry that are largely left unpublicized for a good reason--because they're tough. All games go through a multi-stage approval process, but most games are not brought to the public's attention until that final approval has been met. With Mega Man Legends 3, exposing the fans to that process was part of the project's core concept--to show everybody what it really means to create a game. We were all in it together here, for better or worse, and now together we must accept the outcome that many games ultimately face.
I know that many fans are extremely disappointed by this news. Please realize that this cancellation is no less of a blow for the dedicated staff who have been working on this project for most of a year now. Since Legends 3's first conception, it has consumed most of the team's waking hours. We have been living and breathing Mega Man Legends for months--We've spent hours upon hours in meetings, created vast amounts of content both in the game's prototype and here in the Devroom, and there have even been multiple trips overseas to meet and discuss the game's progress. To we who have been deeply involved in this project, it is more than a game--it is a symbol and a manifestation of the collective hard work, creativity, and vision shared by all of us. Not just a product, but an amalgam of minds.
The decision to close this project after all it has meant comes as very difficult news to all staff members as well, but we must move on.
While it didn’t ultimately result in a game, it was a real look at game development in action, with all the excitement and disappointments that can entail. We did not arrive at the destination we had hoped, but we thank you for coming on this journey with us.

The reaction to both Capcom's announcement and their official forums for the game have people starting an overall boycott of Capcom and not just because the game itself was cancelled but from all the dumb and strange decisions they have been making the last few years.
At least in Mega Man Universe case, that got cancelled very early into development and after some problems couldn't be fixed but MM Legends 3 was very close to being done than other Capcom projects.

Honestly, what's to boycott? Their two original IP's coming out look alright, butthen you've got a bunch of fighting game updates in SF3, UMVC3 and this AE 2k12 Ono was talking about, SFxT, Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, the awful looking DmC reboot and Racoon City from the Socom B-Team, I think anyone could boycott Capcom without realising they'd done it.

I hope this doesn't spell the end of the megaman franchise as a whole. With Inafune leaving, both MML3 and Universe getting canceled, it kind of seems that way. Being that it is one of, if not THE most consistently good 2-d platformers out there, it would be a damn shame. The gameplay of this series is timeless, and people will always pay for more, so I don't see the point really.
Emperor Smeat
07-22-2011, 02:33 PM
The next Smash Bros game could determine how much interest Capcom has left with Mega Man since its rumored the next game will have a lot more 3rd party characters and before Inafune left, he tried to get Mega Man into Brawl.
If Capcom doesn't want him in the game, then the MM series could be done for a while.

Capcom Refused To Let Keiji Inafune To Complete Mega Man Legends 3 (http://www.gameblurb.net/news/capcom-refused-to-let-keiji-inafune-to-complete-mega-man-legends-3/)

For those of you who are still upset over Mega Man Legends 3, there seems to be a lot more fuel to add to this fire. Strategies Japan seemed to have dug up some interesting quotes in an interview with 4gamer.net from former Capcom head Keiji Inafune.
So, I told them that I was going to found my own independent company and leave Capcom. However, I stated that I was ready to make a contract with them so that I could keep working on those projects that I started. I couldn’t start making contracts with other publishers for sure if Capcom agreed to the proposition, but I wanted to see those projects that I started to completion. But it couldn’t be done. They answered, ‘We have no need to do that.’
“[I went to the trouble of]…Finding the right time, gathering the team members, planning strategies, all so we could barely start on Mega Man Legends 3. I really don’t want to quit at this crucial moment…but I can’t keep going at Capcom. I am too tired to keep going. I wanted to leave Capcom to recharge my energy, and support Capcom from there, but it seems they don’t allow it. I want to make all my effort to keep Legends 3 alive, but I’m really not sure I can do it.”
Wow. That is just really depressing to hear. Inafune himself wanted to take on the completion of Mega Man Legends 3 and Capcom refused? I really don’t think this is gonna sit too well with the fanbase who will never let Mega Man Legends die, such as our resident illustrator (http://www.gameblurb.net/featured/a-tribute-to-megaman-legends/) Bay.
Check out his tribute to the game right here (http://www.gameblurb.net/featured/a-tribute-to-megaman-legends/).
