– While WWE officials’ top pick for Undertaker’s opponent at WrestleMania XXVII is Sheamus, there was discussion this past week of “The Deadman” facing John Cena. We’ll keep you posted."

-- I'm sure its been discussed before, but lets tackle it anyways

I'll keep it short, because I've said it before.

This year should be a down year for Taker, maybe someone like Jericho who can give him a good match. Taker should retire at 20-0 against Cena, who is realistically the last guy they can put against Cena and have any semblance of true competition.

This. I wouldn't mind maybe Daniel Bryan- I think he'd get a great match out of Taker, but Jericho has more way more potential as a threat. Sheamus doesn't really do much for me, either on the mic or in the ring, so i'd be more inclined for someone else to have a shot. Perhaps a midcarder could use the rub. Miz maybe?

I would bet $1 million that Daniel Bryan will never face Undertaker at a WM.....The logical choice for me this year is The Miz, but he would somehow have to lose his MITB (and not have a Title) for any storyline to make sense.....

"Storyline-wise", it would be much better if it was Jericho against The Undertaker, because Jericho is a natural heel, and he could really dish out some great promos on why he feels like he can beat The Undertaker at WM27, and why he wants to fight The Undertaker at WM27.

Cena would almost certainly have to be heel, or at the very least tweener, in order to fight 'Taker. I guess he could do that, but I just don't see Undertaker and Cena "meshing" really well in terms of personality, in-ring work, etc. I just don't see it. Maybe if Cena went "full-blown heel", and started ripping into Undertaker's legacy and WM record, then I could see the storyline, and the match, becoming interesting.

lol @ Daniel Bryan, and this is coming from a fan of his. If Batista, HBK, Orton, Edge, ect. didn't beat him, I don't think he would have a chance, especially this early in his WWE career.

Taker should retire before Wrestlemania in my opinion....if he does in fact, plan to retire very soon. If Taker takes part at Mania, he should go against a guy that he'll obviously win against. It's too obvious that Taker will never lose at Mania' and so wasting him on a guy like Cena doesn't do much good. Yes - having Taker go up against Jericho would be great since Jericho and Taker would have an excellent match. Furthermore - it wouldn't be too much of a big deal if Jericho lost since he isn't the company's #1 guy like Cena and/or Orton.

If it's Cena, then there is still that air of unpredictablility, I think. Anyone other than Cena, and I'd agree with you.

Apart of me just wants them to do Cena vs. Taker this year, because who's to say that Taker (or Cena for that matter), can stay healthy by this time next year?

If the Championship matches aren't off-the-chart draws this year, then fuck it, just book Taker vs. Cena for WM 27.

Pretty much what Xero said. Give him an off year, with The Miz or Sheamus and then in 2012 go all out with Cena to send him off right.

Cena/'Taker has an air of unpredictability, but also is sure to be the match that brings in the most money. I'd love to see it be Jericho vs Taker, but u can't argue that kids will want to see Cena go against Undertaker, so their parents will either buy th PPV, or go to the show. And, of course, the rest fo the fans will be very interested in it also.

But who knows? With WM27 being in Atlanta, in the Georgiadome, the show will have a "WCW feel" to it (not to mention the Hall of Fame), so WWE may give the nod to Jericho and let him go against The Dead Man.

I'm not saying that it's the likely scenario, but even for smarks, Cena should still pose a threat to the streak. To smarks especially, considering how much they bitch about him winning matches they feel he shouldn't.

The other thing to think about is that Taker is a company man. He'll lose the streak if he's asked. So it's really up to Vince, and Vince is all about business. If he feels ending the streak with Cena will be good business he'll do it. And it probably would be, considering that Cena will be around a lot longer.

Personally, I am of the opinion that the streak shouldn't end, but that's a whole other discussion that's been done to death on here already.

For starters, Cena doesn't have to be full blown anything to face Taker at Mania. He could maintain the current character and it would have little to any effect on the match itself. It would be one of those instances where the fans decide who to cheer for.

Secondly, their in ring work meshes well. They had a great match some years ago while Taker was still doing his biker gimmick and Cena was a heel who was still growing. At this stage in both men's careers, they can put on a main event level match.

With that said, I think Xero's idea is the way to go with Taker facing an up and comer and not having the same high profile match like he's had the last 4 years. I like the idea of the Miz, and even Wade Barrett.

But Mr. Pierre makes a good point as well. Taker's had a long list of health problems over the past few years. He's always taking time off, and it's not going to get any better. The body's only going to stand so much. If they wanted to blow their load on Cena/Taker now, I could understand WWE for doing so.

I can see Barrett ending up as seeming like a legit threat - if they play it right. When Nexus gets destroyed with a fracture and such - Cena contributing. You have Barrett going on a rampage. He destroys the fallen from Nexus, he goes over big chunks of the roster, maybe even Cena - until eventually The Undertaker issues the challenge, saying something about Barretts powers being something he would like to destroy.

Barrett is coming off a rampage, he's previously gone over established parts of the company, and he's able to throw a promo in our faces.

This past week, RAW had a 4 day tour in Mexico, and on one of the shows, the Main Event was going to be Alberto Del Rio vs Undertaker. Maybe WWE is doing a "demo" match between the two, to see how it comes out and if it's worthy of WM27? Who knows?

Cena could easily do it this year AND next year, HBK style. Do it as a face vs face this year, then for the big 20-0, turn Cena heel.

They could never have Cena go into the match as a face. It just wouldn't work.

I was going to post about this but Fignuts stole all the words out of my mouth here. It's also for all these reasons that I'd love to see Taker/Cena at WM. I do think they should wait til next year though so 20-0 would be in jeopardy.

I like the idea of Undertaker having a lesser role at Mania this year. He has been the spotlight for 2 years now and seeing as how the theme right now seems to be "rebuilding period" I say have Taker in a late card match with a young guy like Barrett.
