Kongo looked like a serious contender for the title in this fight against The Headhunter, but he looked like crap last night against Travis Browne. He was tired/ repeatedly grabbing the shorts, and didnt capitilize on Browne's inexpirence. Was anyone else completely disapointed in his proformance?
Yep.
He looked v. average in there. He deserved the point deduction, but its a pretty shitty way to miss out on a win.

Not really that shocking, Kongo didnt even look good against Buenatello, he out grappled someone with even less of a ground game then himself, it wasnt really impressive.

He's a dirty cheater.

You mean one of the dirtiest fighters in MMA got caught for being dirty?
How shocking, considering how many times he's gotten away with groin shots.

He is a pretty vicious striker with good GnP but he has been inconsistent his whole career.. Plus the fact he couldn't hang on the ground with ANY of the top HW.. He'll be around for another fight or two, but if he doesn't start KO'ing people, he'll be out..

strictly midcard. anyone who beats him can probably be considered one of the better heavyweight fighters but otherwise they're going nowhere. i think the wolfslair is pretty crap as far as the well known mma schools go. kongo, bisping and jackson are all fighters who are never going to be truly up there.

Jackson is "up there" and has been for a while..

Rampage's been on a downslide, lately.
Mask has called it with Kongo. He's basically a gatekeeper. The heavyweight division passed him by.

Sure, but so has Liddell.. Doesn't mean he's not main event, cause they both were and still could be..

just cause he's a name doesn't mean he's up there though. tito ortiz is a name but he has about as much chance of winning the LHW title as liddell and jackson, which is to say none. they are all relics of the 2005 mma era.
also i wouldn't even necessarily call kongo a gatekeeper, just a guy that if you beat him you can probably move up to that mir/carwin/dos santos/velasquez kind of level and try and beat those guys next before moving on to a title shot.

jackson are all fighters who are never going to be truly up there.
"Never going to be" and "once was" are two completely different things..
Fact is, Rampage was the LHW Champ in the last couple of years.. IMO, he shouldn't have lost to Griffin (specially when they didn't give Shogun the win over Machida, when Shogun did the exact same thing to him as Griffin did to Jackson)..
Jackson has had ONE bad fight in the UFC..

Also, if Bisping had beaten Hendo, he'd be "up there" too..

I think his problem is he's so one dimensional everybody is just passing him by.

Who?? Rampage??

i don't think rampage is one dimensional personally, but i don't think he has the cardio or the heart to make it anymore. plus he isn't the most technical of fighters and LHW seems very technical right now.

If you do mean Rampage, you are dead wrong.. His game evolved soooo much once he came to the UFC and actually had decent trainers and sparring partners.. His wrestling against Hendo was outstanding, holding Hendo on his back for a good bit of the fight.. Also, his boxing is so much cleaner.. Really, with the title defense against Hendo, he was the last "real" LHW champion.. I go by the oldskool, you have to defend the title atleast once to be a "real" champ.. Griffin lost to Rashad his first defense, just like Rashad lost to Machida in his.. Machida lost to Shogun his second, but I still believe Shogun won that first fight out right, specially with the Rampage/Griffin decision..
So, yeah, Rampage might have looked like shit against Rashad, but that was with a 11 month lay over..
I think he is gonna rape Machida cause even though he has only had ONE bad fight in the UFC and is still a big draw, he is on the proverbial chopping block..
He needs to check leg kicks though, for reals...

i reckon machida will win. i'd rather jackson did since i am a pretty big jackson fan, but i can't see it happening.

I'm hoping cause I love Rampage, as y'all know..
The thing is, Rampage's speed was shit against Rashad and I'm sure Machida will gameplay that.. Plus Machida has vicious leg kicks which Rampage NEVER checks.. BUT..the only person to ever KO or even rock Rampage was Wanderlei and I really don't think Machida is as powerful of a striker as Wandy was 7 years ago.. Machida is good, but if Page comes in ready, he could toss him around and bully him..

On the subject: Kongo has been very mediocre as of late. I've never seen the 'dirty fighter' in him, cause I've never cared to watch his fight.
On this hot topic: I like page, but I think Shad exposed him a tad. While it's been blatently obvious that Page wasn't the hardest worker in the gym, he's putting effort in now, the problem is that he's putting the effort in with shitty coaching.
He needs to consider AKA, ATT, or a school that will teach him to work some ground game.

he still thinks that kongo is 'a character' by all accounts, though.
