O.K. you are Vincent Kennedy McMahon, your wife is running for a senate seat. In order too "help" her out, you decide you should take your company in a new direction, a watered down, PG version of your product. You do good things for the business such as implement a stricter drug policy, ban head shots from chairs, and take away the element of blood. You think you are doing a good job.

However, the election is almost here, your company has been dragged through the mud for months now, and seems that it is getting worse by the hour. This does not include all the good things you have done for the betterment of the business, but only concentrates on the past "attitude" of the company.

The election ends, your wife loses, and all you have too show is a hurt reputation, do you say "Fuck it, they want too criticizes me for the past, I'll show the pricks what kind of entertainment I can provide!" Or ____________.

What are your thoughts?

No, because for the 57785237th time, WWE is PG because that's where the advertising money is. The election won't change that at all.

I wouldn't be surprised, if it's one of the motives.

I can't believe people still don't see that Linda McMahon's election for US Senate had EVERYTHING to do with WWE turning PG. Yes, there is money to be made with John Cena as the poster boy for 7-13 year old WWE fans - but that's only so obviously apparent because that's the direction that the WWE has taken for the past 6 years. But they only went that way because of the turn to PG, and the turn to PG was only because of Linda running for Senate.

Sort of on the same subject, is HHH staying out of wrestling to help Lindas political campaign? I thought he would be back by now.

to say that the turn to PG was only because of linda's senate bid is just as ignorant as saying it had nothing at all to do with it.

Deep.

You're right. There were other factors, too. But Linda's campaign was definitely one of the major reasons.

The WWE should become rated G and stop all the mindless violence. I would like to see the PWE--the pacifist wrestling federation, where people sit down and talk about their problems. Wouldnt that be AWESOME?

Problem with Vince is when Linda was the front-runner, he staid out knowing Linda wanted to distance herself from the WWE. Once her opponents had "dirt" against her, Vince changes WWE to be more PG.

Once she started to show signs of loosing the actual race, Vince decided to get the WWE involved with the whole "Stand Up" campaign and making it seem like everyone else is against Linda and the WWE. WWE doesn't point out that Linda has the most and spent the most money during the campaign to boost her image but the voters want something else.

One of WWE.com's articles is calling the Department of Justice absurd just because they were not allowed to have WWE shirts in the polling places when election laws are strict about clothing and campaign stuff.

whoever said that advertising money is in the PG audience is a goddamn shit clown. the most sought after demographic for marketers is males 18 to 29.

And yet, when the WWE had attitude, they were losing advert revenue from all the sponsors who didn't want to be associated with the violent, vulgar, and lewd product that was being put out and were pulling their dollars.

PG allows them to be available to a larger fan base, and still have sponsors willing to advertise on their programs to whatever market, be it 7 - 13 or 18 - 29 or even fuckin 75 - 88. (You know, the Hogan/Flair demographic.)

Vince probably figures he has nothing to lose. He'll definitely get a lot of shit for that, probably sued and lose. He'll get a lot of press out of it at least.

If Linda was a lock to win he'd never have done that.

VSG
11-01-2010, 11:14 PM
And probably make millions more off that publicity. If a methhead like Jeff Hardy can work despite those indictments that threaten a minimum of 5 years of prison time, Vince can turn this into more money for his fortress of gold.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he did turn the business TV-14 after that. I don't think it will happen, but if it does by, say, Mania, I won't be surprised, and that segment will have been the starting point.

to say that the turn to PG was only because of linda's senate bid is just as ignorant as saying it had nothing at all to do with it.

Same is true of the "Stand Up" campaign. The extent they're pushing it obviously has to do with Vinnie Mac helping the wife. However, they've been promoting voting since Bush Sr was in office (the race Clinton won).

It's almost like saying they only do "Tribute to the Troops" because of 9/11... fuck, just shot my own argument in the foot.

Vince is going to cost Linda the election. He should've stayed out of the race. Now, he is trying to bring the WWE into the election, bringing the "WWE style" into politics, and he is just making a fool out of himself, and making Linda look like a fool, too.

From PWInsider:

The Miami Herald has printed a copy of the entire letter that the US Justice Department has sent to WWE concerning their announcement that they would give away WWE merchandise near the polls in Connecticut today. It was sent to WWE lawyer Jerry McDevitt.

It does seem a little extreme by the Justice Department if you ask me.

Here it is:

U.S. Department of Justice
Criminal Division
Public Integrity Section
Washington D.C. 20530

November 1, 2010

BY ELECTRONIC MAIL

Jerry S. McDevitt, Esq
K&L Gates Center
210 Sixth Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15222-2613

Dear Mr. McDevitt:

Re: World Wrestling Entertainment

The Department of Justice has recently received information that your client, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), might be providing or planning to provide free merchandise to voters at polling places. However, the available information also indicates that if this practice is actually planned or occurring, it is open and notorious. Accordingly, this letter is to advise you that WWE might be operating in ignorance of applicable federal criminal law, and to notify you of that law.

Specifically, Section 1973i(c) of Title 42 of the United States Code makes it a federal offense to pay or offer to pay an individual a thing of value for voting. Violation of Section 1973i(c) is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years and a fine not to exceed $250,000. Please note the Department's understanding that this statute prohibits a person from providing a thing of value -- such as clothing -- in return for an individual's participation in the voting process.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Richard C. Pilger
Director
Election Crimes Branch

Too bad Vince doesn't have Linda to fall back on in giving her ownership of the company, like he did in the early 90s.

I have a feeling that if this does progress we may see Paul Levesque - C.E.O. of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.
