View Full Version : Is Jon Fitch Being Punished or Something?

I read on ESPN a few days back where Fitch said he initially asked to be Jake Shields' first fight but was told no. It's been said that Dana is pissed at him for saying he'd never fight Koscheck. Does anyone know the real story behind it?
I mean Fitch is considered number 2 in the world in his weight class and having Shields fight him for the number 1 contender spot would have made more sense. Especially since Dana claims that there are no more walkthrough fights in the UFC.

Do you have any idea how boring Fitch/Shields would be, he probably said no out of courtesy for the fans.

Also, if Fitch won we would be subject to Fitch/GSP 2 and only Jon Fitch wants to see that.

I <3 Fitch but LOL..
What would be the point in having Fitch in a no.1 contender fight when he said straight up that he isnt fighting Koscheck and will move up to middleweight if Kos beats GSP.
Also Fitch is a fucking bore, and he was one of the fighters who didnt sign his name rights over for the game, so there probably is some reason for holding him back. I dont like him so its all good IMO.

Yeah I respect the hell out of Jon Fitch, but unfortunately he's just far too boring and already got dusted decisively in his title shot. And Dana White is a baby.

Jon Fitch has never really been cared about in the UFC. He had to win six straight fight in the UFC before he got a chance to fight in the main card of a UFC PPV. When he did lucky for him he fought Diego Sanchez who is virtually impossible to have a boring fight with at UFC 76. Based off that he was basically made #1 contender (he fought Chris Wilson before GSP but that was a glorified tune up fight).
After he fought GSP at UFC 87 (and won fight of the night) he has beaten 5 UFC welterweight including Paulo Thiago and Thiago Alves. Now after winning 5 straight fights you'd think he'd have earned a re-match with GSP but no... But he should be fighting someone in the top 10 of welterweight... well not that either. He is schedualed to fight Jake Ellenberger at UFC 126.
Why?
He's boring. He's an incredible fighter with a fantastic skill set. But he's boring. You can try as you might to explain to people how talented he is. But he's boring. You can list all the fighters he's beaten. But he's boring. You can state that his only loss in the UFC is against it's welterweight champion. But he's boring. Maybe Dana doesn't like that he won't fight Josh Koscheck. But he's boring. Dana doesn't like like his refusal to fight Kos, but Fitch would most likely beat Koscheck anyway. But he's boring. Fitch has earned a shot at the title. But he's boring. Fitch could still take on fighters like Serra, Hughes, Koscheck, BJ Penn (at Welterweight), Martin Kampmann and Jake Shields. But he's boring. So you cannot market any of those fights to get people to watch because no matter how good Fitch is (and he's damn good) people will just say... But he's boring.

I mean Jon Fitch doesn't even talk trash. Why did you think wrestlers like Tito, and Sonnen and Kos all talk shit, because watching them have man sex for 15 or 25 minutes isn't always entertaining.

Tito and Koscheck usually have entertaining fights to be fair.

but he's boring
also, this whole "I won't fight my own teammate" shit is utter bullshit. If that's the main reason why Fitch is being held down, then good call on Dana White.

He should move up to MW, though.
Because I think he could man-sex his way to victory over Anderson.

Jon Fitch is not just boring, he's super boring. He's finished all of 3 fights in the UFC. He's incredible at taking a dude's back, but once he's there, he just kinda chills out for the rest of the fight. Fuck that noise.

I can respect that he grinds fighters out, but my real problem with him is his refusal to not fight Kos. The two work for the same company and are the top contenders in the same weight division. Dana wants to make this fight happen, and the fans want to see a legitimate challenger to GSP. Dana also is looking to make an example of this to deter others from refusing fights with their buddies.
The fans don't have to like his style of fighting, but refusing to compete against top competition because your friends is unprofessional. Friends in sports compete all the time and when they are done competing, they remain friends.

We'll see how this stance hold up. Jon Jones said he'd never fight Rashad so I wonder if Dana will punish him the same way. Right or wrong, I think both of those guys look at it as fighting a teammate moreso that just their buddy. The entire camp would have to be split up in some way. I'm not saying I agree with this view, but I can understand it.

i don't know what the big deal is anyway. fitch/koscheck isn't a fight i give a crap about seeing anyway. rashad/jones or silva/machida would be cool but fitch/koscheck would just be a shitfest.

It is the same sort of deal, except I do not believe there is any way even Dana White could hold off on cashing in on the rise and popularity of Jon Jones. Jon Jones is a much more exciting fighter with a variety of wins coming by TKO or submission.
If anything, I could see Dana trying to spoon feed this fight to Jones if Rashad were to defeat Shogun for the Light Heavyweight belt and Jones were to continue winning.
In the end, I could see this being more up to Jon Jones choice rather than Dana wanting to punish him.

I think guys who don't want to fight certain people are pussies.. Tito tried to use that lame excuse with Chuck.. Fighting is a job and they are saying they don't want to do their job.. Look at the Drago/Pete sell fight.. Those dudes are beat friend and they destroyed each other..

I wouldn't call anyone who fights for a living a pussy. Plus, I think it's more guys out of the same camp who don't want to fight each other more so than guys who just happen to be friends. Copping out of a fight just because you like a guy is bullshit.

Dana can't win on this issue. Faber said he wouldn't fight Benavidez. Add another name to his shit list.

i don't know why they bother anyway. chances are the guys know the others game inside out and they also might not go at it full bore, and it'd just be boring.
