To qualify, a movie series must have three or more movies.

I think LOTR would be up there, with the original 3 Star Wars a very close second.

Any other suggestions or comments on great series?

I wouldn't say they're the best, but just wanted to mention the original Amerian Pie trilogy, such awesome films. :)

LOTR and Star Wars (original) are both legendary movie series that will hold a place in time forever.

Below those two, I really enjoyed The Matrix trilogy, the Aliens trilogy and the Spider-Man Trilogy (despite 3). If The Dark Knight Rises delivers, that might take up the new spot for my favorite movie series of all time.

Also, BACK TO THE FUTURE!

The original Star Wars trilogy would be my pick, if the trilogies can be viewed seperately. Episode 3 was up to par, but the 1st and 2nd episodes kinda hurt the ratio. Even if they aren't entirely bad, they're definitely not up to that standard.
I think 2 sucks though. Personally, I don't get how anyone thinks it's better than 1 unless the reason is action.

So it depends on how you look at it. LOTR is good stuff. Hopefully The Hobbit doesn't disappoint the masses. Knowing people, there will be a large group that bitches about it no matter what.
See: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Die Hard, every other sequel made after the legacy of a series has been established and left alone for a while.

Bond is great, but some of them suck, and quite a few are pretty mediocre movies. There are honestly only like 5 Bond movies I would actually consider really good movies, despite my enjoyment of the character and series.

I think all of the Man With No Name movies are great, same with Back to the Future.

Alien and Terminator are a mixed bag, because the first two movies in both franchises are top notch, and the 3rd and 4th are significantly worse.
Not that Terminator 3 and Alien 3 are even that bad of movies. They're just disappointing as follow-ups.
The fourth is pretty bad, in both series.

Don't understand the issues with Indy 4 or Die Hard 4. In the case of Die Hard, I definitely agree they upped the outrageouness of the action, but not as much as people make it seem.
Yea, he jumps on a plane and makes it crash but people act like he's doing that the whole movie. It's like 10 seconds and not as ridiculous as the trailers make it seem. He sort of falls onto it and then off. The rest of the movie is fights and elevator shaft deaths. Pretty standard McLean.

I don't think it's any more over the top than Part 2, and it feels more like the 1st and 3rd than 2. I would probably rank it as my 3rd favorite of the series.

If The Dark Knight Rises is up to par, that will probably become a lot of people's pick. I don't know if I expect it to be as good as TDK, but if they can match the quality of Begins that's pretty damn good.
I'm sure there will be tons of people who have unreal expectations for that sequel. Really I just expect a good movie, but I bet some will be unreasonable.

Hey I only expect the greatest movie of all time. Is that so unrealistic?

Pretty much the opposite here. They're both shit compared to 1 and 2, but I felt 3 was at least an entertaining and competent action movie.
Even if it didn't live up to the Terminator name, it was a pretty fun and enjoyable movie. Plus it had Arnold greatness.

Part 4 was all kinds of awful. Boring, shallow, dull, and really just a loosely strung together piece of shit. I felt like I was watching cut scenes from a bad video game. At times it tried to imitate the tone of the first two, but it was in such a superficial way. The whole thing was just uninspired and missed the mark.

Christian Bale's performance was also pretty shit. I find it ironic that the leader of the human race and the heart of the series is the most robotic and boring character of all in that film. That irony wasn't an artistic choice either, but merely incidental.

Jeritron

Had more guns and was "darker" though, which I think aesthetically creates an illusion of it matching the first two. I dunno.
I think the future war is a concept I would have liked to see a movie about, but not the way it turned out. James Cameron's Terminator 3 would have been the shit.

If anyone has seen T2:3D at Universal Studios, you kinda get an idea where he might have gone with it. It's easily the 3rd best Terminator flick, at only 15 minutes.

Sixx

Terminator 3 was shit, except for the lady Terminator being topless scene. Terminator 4 was ok I guess, but I have a hard time considering it a Terminator movie. Not sure if I'm makin' any sense.

How do you count 3 but not 4? I mean they're both really bad, but 4 is at least as good if not better than 3.

How can you not count it based on quality? It's part of the series regardless of your opinion on it.

There are some good action scenes. The biggest problem is that it's a Terminator movie, so it underwhelms.
Really it's pretty decent, and it's better than most non-Terminator Arnold movies. Predator, Total Recall and True Lies not included.
