Yeah, there's still a month and a half left, but I thought I'd get a head start. Also, dunno if any good albums are slated for release the rest of the year. Unless Radiohead drops their album, that is, in which case I'll probably have a new #1. Lots of hot units this year, BTW. Honorable mentions to Wavves, Tame Impala, The Album Leaf and some others I can't remember right now, oh yeah, Broken Social Scene too

15) Beach Fossils - Beach Fossils
Just a really chill album with a nice "beach" feel. Sounds exactly like Real Estate which isn't a bad thing I guess.

14) Avey Tare - Down There
Absolutely dirty and atmospheric.
<object height="385" width="480">

13) The Morning Benders - Big Echo
Had kind of a love hate with this album this year but it's here at number 13.
<object height="385" width="480">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LCaK9GJ4PHU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object>
12) Beach House - Teen Dream
Fucking beautiful, also, had this in 2009 but it technically came out this year.
<object height="385" width="480">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3-rYQRxzaJM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object>
11) Caribou - Swim
Really stripped down album, sort of an electronica orchestra vibe
<object height="385" width="480">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0vaOgn716l4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object>
10) Abe Vigoda - Crush
A lot darker than their older stuff
<object height="385" width="480">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0fj9fgqtteM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object>
9) Wild Nothing - Gemini
Just a really good album all around. This song sounds like The Cure kind of.
<object height="385" width="480">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0NxQ_sEVqow?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object>
8) Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
Not for everyone really but fucking awesome. Can't even explain what this does to me when I am blazed
<object height="385" width="480">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oqNFkQmmbcQ?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object>
7) Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz
I wasn't too keen on it at first but jesus christ this is hot fire
<object height="385" width="640">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/25OC3m5QdYY?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="640"></object>
6) Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
Flirted with being higher on the list but it couldn't trounce the shit in front of it. Not my favorite Deerhunter album but probably their most polished
<object height="385" width="640">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/G5RzpPrOd-4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="640"></object>
5) Best Coast - Crazy For You
Cheesy ass cutesy lyrics but ridiculously catchy album anyone could love. Also really really really want to fuck the lead singer.
<object height="385" width="640">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/y40TsOIpuEU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="640"></object>
4) Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Could have been #1 and I'd imagine it'd be a lot of people's number 1 this year. I don't know how The Arcade Fire manage to make every single song they write sound ridiculously epic, yet avoid falling into the cheesy arena rock genre.
<object height="385" width="640">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cNdqoQWz34E?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="640"></object>
3) Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Before Today
This was number one for me for a while. Weird as fuck, no doubt, but there's just something about my man Ariel that is incredible. Not my favorite Ariel Pink album.
<object height="385" width="480">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VcS0oJwlz_Q?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object>
2) Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Not enough good things I can say about this album, which I'd guess would top a a lot of lists as well. I've always loved the Gorillaz but this is their best work, without question. So many hot jams.
<object height="385" width="640">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bZR20t0Uu2M?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="640"></object>
1) Das Racist - Sit Down Man
I'm sorry. There's no way this wasn't winning. I have listened to this non-stop since it came out. Sick beats and production, also the songs pretty much make commentary on how ridiculous the rap world is in general. Jay-Z guest stars with one line sampled over and over again. And who can't appreciate references to Nautica jackets, Leslie Nielsen, Nietzsche, The Lion King, Ramadan and Lavar Burton in a rap album?

- Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
- Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
- Sage Francis - Li(f)e
- Grinderman - Grinderman 2
- RJD2 - The Colossus
- Fistful of Mercy - As I Call You Down

Can't think of anything else at the moment. I also enjoyed the new Interpol album, but I don't feel like it should be on a "best of" list.

Definitely liked the new Sage Francis and RJD2 also but they didn't make the list. I wasn't really feelin the new Interpol album. Worst album art ever, also

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Big Boi - Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Beach House - Teen Dream
Vampire Weekend - Contra
Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz
Sleigh Bells - Treats
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Das Racist - Sit Down, Man
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
The Black Keys - Brothers

Not sure what my fav is. Fucking love Das Racist so much, but musically might not "take the cake". ON THE OTHER HAND, they really invented a new form of rap (intelligent rap that isn't up it's own asshole like 99% of underground rap).

Probably listened to Vampire Weekend the most out of any of these albums, so gonna say it is my fav, dunno tho. I have the best memories listening to Teen Dream on acid in the sun and laying around in the mountains. Seriously start to "trip" a bit when I listen to Silver Soul. This is a tough one.

I haven't listened to the Big Boi album enough to really get a good feel for it for some reason. I feel like I would love it if I gave it more of a chance though. Same goes for Sleigh Bells. My sister fucking loves it but I just never really listen to it.

Was big on Vampire Weekend when it first came out but I dunno, got sick of it real quick.

Black Keys gets an honorable mention too I guess. Wasn't really a huge fan of theirs but I like them now.

Oh yeah, forgot about the new No Age album too. Pretty good. Liked the old one a lot more though, they sound way better all stripped down and lo-fi. Too much production.

"Funny" cuz I wasn't into Vampire Weekend for a long long time, actually hated them a lot for some reason. Then slowly every song on that album became a "favorite song of the moment" at one point.

FakeLaser

Kinda had the exact opposite where I liked them and then started to hate them a lot for some reason. I guess they're ok now.

Buzzkill

They are definitely very pretentious and obnoxious. Took me a long time to get over that hump and just listen to the music itself.

I was mad disappointed, and it's not even that I was expecting clones of Electric Feel and Kids or anything like a bunch of people were. Just didn't really like it at all. Oh well.

Suprised nobody mentioned KOL. Are they too pop now?

Arcade Fire and Gaslight Anthem ftw I guess. I need to listen to a bunch of albums tho. Had a "slow" year for listening to new music because I'm becoming an old man

In no real order, I liked these albums. I don't really keep up with music unless I already like the band most of the time and if I check out a band, it's usually older albums I missed.

This is most of them.

Rob Zombie- Hellbilly Deluxe 2

Deftones- Diamond Eyes

John 5- The Art of Malice

David Bowie- A Reality Tour (technically it's the live DVD but it did come out this year so meh)

Korn- 3 (it wasn't great but it was good)

Dimmu Borgir- Abrahadabra

Cradle of Filth- Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa

How to Destroy Angels- How to Destroy Angels (EP) (not amazing but has potential for future stuff)

Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows- A Strange Thing To Say (EP)

My Chemical Romance - Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys (I never liked them... until now which is weird... this is a fun rock album. Me liking this album is my shocker of the year)

Nevermore- The Obsidian Conspiracy

Can't think of any others that stand out right now for the time being.

FakeLaser

Changed mine a lot actually

Basically want to throw in support for Sleigh Bells and Tame Impala should be way further up on the list. Would probably switch them with Abe Vigoda at this point and Sleigh Bells is probably somewhere in the 12-14 range now

El Vaquero de Infierno

The only albums that were released this year which I bought were:

Courtyard Hounds - Courtyard Hounds (Average - These ladies are capable of far much better)

Crooked Still - Some Strange Country (Good - Acoustic goodness)

Deftones - Diamond Eyes (Good - Not their strongest album, but their best since the self-titled)

Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me (V. Good - Some songs could have been left out, though)

Punch Brothers - Antifogmatic (Great - Chris Thile is possible the best musician around at the moment, and he surrounds himself with those who have the musical chops to keep up with him)

Rasputina - The Pregnant Concert (Average - A live album which is not as good as it could have been, nor is the line-up as strong as it was 6 years ago when the last live album came out)

Rasputina - Sister Kinderhook (Good - I enjoyed it alot. Lyrically, it was better than "Oh Perilous World". Musically, I think they tried harder than the previous also. Arrangements wise, I liked that they didn't have any amped-up cellos, but possible miss the fuller arrangements of the previous record.)

She and Him - Volume 2 (Good - Not as good as the first album, but still enjoyed it)

I shall be getting the Jenny and Johnny album for xmas.

I've bought around 55-60 albums this year, and only 8 were released this year. I find most of the stuff that comes out these days to be rather blah.

Trying to think of any more to add to my list but two of the albums I was looking forward didn't really deliver and I haven't had a chance to get and listen to two others I was after. (Pain Of Salvations Road Salt One & Blind Guardians At The Edge Of Time)
