View Full Version : Create some new tag teams. Revitalize the tag team division

Remember the days of Edge &Christian vs. The Hardy Boys vs. The Dudleyz? They even added more dynamic to these groups by adding Rhyno, Lita, and Spike to these teams as their "3rd member" before WrestleMania X7

So with all the current superstars available doing nothing lost in limbo, what kind of teams would you put together, in an attempt to re-create the tag team division glory days of 2000-2002

I wouldn't mind seeing Sheamus and MacIntyre team up for a run. They would be a good mix of power and speed.

I think that Zack Ryder & Primo would make a pretty good, if random tag team. Have AJ sort of brush Primo to the side, and give Ryder & Primo the gimmick of two guys with the mantra "Bros before hos." Matt Striker can put them over as two guys who have excelled in tag team wrestling before, and put them over as a "critic's choice" tag team.

The more I think about it, the more I think that they should just put Darren Young & Percy Watson together as a tag team. The South Beach Boys would have personality, and could get quite over together. Give them Byron Saxton as a manager, as apparently he has been amazing in FCW. Saxton can be the power behind getting the two together, and play sort of a heel manager contrasting with the fun-loving babyfaces. It would be...interesting. It can at least allow The South Beach Boys to play faces in some matches, but have enough of a hook to be heels.

I wouldn't mind seeing Kane & Paul Bearer put together a new sort of "Ministry of Darkness" faction on SmackDown!. Have Tyler Reks & Vance Archer join the group, and they could be an interesting power-house team with athletic ability.

The Great Khali & Jinder Mahal would make an interesting team, with Mahal being the guy who absorbs the beat-downs, and Khali being the closer who comes in, cleans house, and wins the matches.

Call up Los Aviadores as a babyface tag team. Why the WWE has not already done this is beyond me. Also, JTG is doing nothing; Shad Gaspard is doing nothing -- just stick them back together as a pissed-off Cryme Tyme.

Been saying this for months: Goldust and Cody Rhodes needs to happen!
I'm a sucker for power teams so Vance Archer and Luke Gallows. They had a pretty good match on Superstars.
If not Zack and Primo then Zack Ryder and Percy Watson, although The South Beach Boys would be awesome.

I'm not opposing to seeing Vickie Guerrero put a bit of a stable together around Dolph Ziggler. Vickie's got professional relationships with Michelle McCool, Layla, Chavo Guerrero & Curt Hawkins. So there you are. Chavo & Hawkins would make an interesting team between a rookie and a young guy.

^ Straight Edge Society is dead, ain't it? And why would Big Zeke join? Is he trying to lay off steroids?

I find it hard 'seeing' a tag team that is formed by two singles guys. Like you know they're not a real tag team, they are just literally 'two singles guys thrown together to fill in the void spot'.

That said, London & Kendrick had it done perfectly. For it to work, I think both men should be reasonably similar, looks, style etc, and definitely need to have the same costumes, or at least the same colour patterns.

I think if you put teams together made up of singles performers they need to have a makeover and new gimmick.

Would love to see 'Mason Ryan' called up from FCW and put in a team with Ezekiel Jackson, I'm all for having them called 'The Cross Atlantic Express' and just have them dominate the fuck out of everyone in a Goldbergesque fashion.

Jackson is that kind of performer, that is what his physique lends itself to. And having watched Mason Ryan as 'Goliath' in the UK Gladiators show I have to say he would be epic at this aswell and he also has fantastic camera presence.

Kane having Minions in the vain of the taker to aid him when the taker returns seems like a logical choice.

Like Have Kane start mimicking the takers career of sorts. Like he is the New Taker. Start a Ministry.

Here’s a couple of ideas…

Awesome Kong & Mark Henry
Kong debuts as Kia Henry - Mark Henry’s sister. They become the first ever brother and sister tag team champions and would be great to add a scare factor to the division.

Cody Rhodes & Dolph Ziggler
They’re both good in the ring. What else is needed?

Those teams, along with Nexus (Husky Harris & Michael McGillicutty), Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov, The Core (Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel), and The Usos, would give WWE the base to a good division.

Why stop there, add Regal and Mason Ryan and you've got a United Kingdom stable with interchangeable tag teams... they would own...

Mr. Nerfect

Except that Mason Ryan is fine in Nexus. DH Smith's partnership with Yoshi Tatsu has potential, too. Give Tyson Kidd a partner, and have him and Smith & Tatsu feud.

William Regal should really find a young guy and mentor him in the tag scene. Regal is getting up there now, and has one strike left. Let him help a younger guy get his foot in the door.

Put Rhodes and DiBiase back together & put the hart dynasty back together.

This.

Breaking up the Hart Dynasty (one of the last true tag teams) to send Kidd and Smith to midcard purgatory was retarded. Then, you put the titles on Santino and Kozlov, who are only still in WWE for comedic effect. I hate when the WWE breaks up a decent tag team only to NOT push any of the former members of that team. When one is clearly carrying the other...or one is getting more over...by all means, break them up. However, breaking them up so Kidd can introduce a huge bodyguard is just dumb. Btw, WWE pushing "The Cobra" as a finishing move makes me facepalm everytime. Of coarse it is all fake, but do you have to be that blatant about it.

CSL
02-18-2011, 02:32 PM
lol I bet Tyson Kidd was all  when they told he'd be bringing in a bodyguard for a singles run. They could quite easily put them back together though, I don't think anybody cares about them individually. Not sure about DiBiase and Rhodes, Rhodes is doing well and Ted will find his feet as a singles guy.

Sycophant
02-18-2011, 03:14 PM
I just think they broke the Hart Dynasty up too soon. They hadn't established themselves yet and then they were broken apart and forced on the crowd and CSL is right in saying that nobody cares about them as singles competitors. WWE just needs to put the nail into coffin and do away with the tag division if they are going to just keep pairing people together randomly for the sake of being able to have a tag match.

WWE writer#1: So, we have nobody to wrestle Santino and Kozlov. The Uso's are as over as a lead balloon and Corre/Nexus are busy being destroyed by Cena. What should we do?

Writer#2: Just pair Mark Henry with someone we don't want to push, but don't want fans to forget about their existence...

Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder

Edge and Christian
Booker T and Goldust

Daniel Bryan and Yoshi

Most of the above pairings derail current singles "pushes".

I'd rather use talent that's going to waste like the aforementioned Ryder & Watson combo.

Bring back Vance Archer to reform the Gatecrashers with Curt Hawkins. Reform the Dudebusters too. That gives you 3 more than serviceable tag teams.

Santino/Koslov
Corre (Gabriel/Slater)
Nexus (McGillicutty/Harris)
The Dudebusters
The Gatecrashers
Ryder & Watson

Give them all personalities and promo time and they can all back it up in the ring.

I guess what I'm saying is that WWE has/had the ingredients to make a decent division, they've just chosen not to bother.

Mr. Nerfect
02-20-2011, 08:53 AM
I'd like to see the random pairing of Big Show & Trent Barreta, actually. While he's young and very talented, Barreta is not really going anywhere right now. Big Show gets stale if he has nothing to do. Just have Barreta crack Big Show up backstage, and Show takes a fancy to the guy for entertaining him so much. Barreta gets beaten down by some heels, and Big Show makes the save.

I've always enjoyed Show working with smaller guys in tag teams, because the smaller dude obviously takes the punishment, and then tags out to Show the Destroyer, who comes in an obliterates everyone. And it shakes things up when you have a tag team savvy enough to ground Big Show, which puts the onus on the smaller guy to make the save.

While we're pairing random guys together, I still think putting Chavo Guerrero & Curt Hawkins together as a team could work. They not only have history, but Chavo is getting older, and this is his chance to get someone young over as something meaningful. You can even do a weird switch where they come up against Zack Ryder & Primo, and Ryder & Hawkins get back together, leaving Chavo & Primo to join together to battle them -- two descendants of legendary wrestling families.
