I did a search and saw no thread for this so I thought I'd make one. I thought this was PS3 exclusive but it's on the 360 aswell.

<object width="853" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/66I_wEw4oLo?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB&amp;color1=0xe1600f&amp;color2=0xfebd01"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/66I_wEw4oLo?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB&amp;color1=0xe1600f&amp;color2=0xfebd01" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="853" height="505"></embed></object>

Can't find much info right now but here is what I have.:

You play as a 1940's L.A. cop and WWII Veteran called Cole Phelps. You start as an "On-the-beat" cop (which act as training missions) and gradually get promoted. As you progress and are promoted, you are presented with new cases to solve.
Cole is a "straight laced" cop so you can't expect to be able to gun down random people in the street like you can in GTA or RDR.

You investigate crime scenes, gather evidence and talk to witness or interrogate suspects.

Interrogation is supposedly quite deep with you being able to ask questions or straight out accusing them of the crime. Using very advanced facial expressions and movements, you can read suspects faces to see if they are telling the truth or not.

The games motion capture is very impressive. Taken from the IGN boards;

Super-advance motion capture of over 300 actors' faces, everything down to subtle eye movements. So if a scene calls for a character to have a black eye, he or she has makeup put on to indicate that, and it is captured via this facial mo-cap.

And from a gaming site called Hexus:
"The new facial motion capturing system sets actors alone in a giant room with cameras all around. In full make-up, the actor delivers their dialogue. Every facial moment is recorded, from the most exaggerate of motions to the slightest twitch of an eye. The dialogue is recorded at this time as well, creating a seamless scene. All of this is then translated into a 3D game landscape with no animators needed. The result? According to GI, it's a picture-perfect rendering of the actor's scene. That's important to the gameplay."

The games size:
L.A. Noire will feature a game world that’s bigger and more detailed than any it’s created so far, and will be a near one-to-one recreation of the city at the time. That’s not to mention the over 140 interiors (many of which are multi-room structures) and the mind-boggling number of fully rendered objects that Cole Phelps can examine in his investigations.

It must be big considering RDR was said to be their biggest world ever and it's bigger than that. It's odd though because it's not supposedly as sandbox-like as GTA or RDR.

IGN disecting the 1st trailer. Well they say "disecting" it's really just some extra info on the game.

Nothing's been said but I think it's most likely going to be in in some form.

If I can fantasize for a minute, it might be fun to have a MP mode that has everyone play as seperate detectives trying to solve some random crime before the other players. Or a co-op MP mode where you all try to solve a crime togethor by spreading out and interegating suspects and looking for clues and reporting back to whoever is in charge of the investigation (the games host).
Build enemy AI so that going alone is near suicidal and it's better to work in pairs. This would make things interesting, sociable and require team work. Ok, I'm done fantasizing.

Screens from L.A. Noire Crime Desk #1 of 5: Homicide
As Detective Cole Phelps in L.A. Noire, you'll rise through the ranks of the LAPD, along the way facing cases across five different department crime desks. One of the most brutal and harrowing will be that of Homicide.

Los Angeles is being terrorized with a series of horrific murders perpetrated on young women. As these cases get reported, it will be up to you to bring the guilty to justice. Is this the work of a lone killer or sick copycats? Some glimpses of Phelps’ pursuit of the killer or killers were seen in Monday's big Official Trailer #2 – and today, we present the below brand new screens taken from murders on that desk.

Tomorrow, look for the launch of the new official L.A. Noire website with a bit more on the Homicide crime desk including high-res versions of these and other new crime scene screens too grisly for the Rockstar Newswire.

Looks like one mission will be a pre-order exclusive and maybe as a DLC purchase for everyone else along with a mini-game mode.

Since L.A. Noire's particular flavor of police investigation action is episodic, standalone cases make excellent preorder gifts. That's what Rockstar Games is doing with Naked City, which sees Detective Cole Phelps investigating the murder of a gorgeous model.

Preordering the game from GameStop also unlocks the Badge Pursuit Challenge, scattering 20 police badges around Los Angeles for players to collect in exchange for fabulous prizes.

Pre-Order with GameStop to get 'The Naked City' Vice Case & Badge Pursuit Challenge
(Also available via Game in the UK, and GameStop in Canada)

‘The Naked City’ Vice Case
In this bonus case from L.A. Noire’s Vice Desk, detective Cole Phelps investigates the supposed suicide of a stunning fashion model. Can you help Cole unravel the truth in a city blighted by drugs, corruption and greed, where the death of a beautiful woman is never as straightforward as it seems?

The Badge Pursuit Challenge
Hidden around L.A. Noire’s beautiful recreation of 1947 Los Angeles are 20 police badges to find and collect. If you can find all 20 of these badges, the dapper Button Man suit will be unlocked which provides extra ammo for all weapons. Each badge also provides 5 additional XP which will help further unlock Intuition Points – special credits that can be used to give Phelps a key investigative insight when you need it most.

Pre-Order with Amazon to get 'The Broderick' Detective Suit
(Also available via Amazon in the UK, and Amazon in Canada)

This unlockable detective suit boosts your fist-fighting capabilities and resilience to damage. Throughout L.A. Noire while working cases, you’ll encounter quite a few suspects and persons of interest who prove to be resistant to arrest. Your hand-to-hand fighting skills will be called into action on these cases – the Broderick suit with its enhanced fighting abilities may be that edge in helping make that collar.

http://media.rockstargames.com/rockstargames/img/global/news/upload/lanoire-aslipofthetongue.jpg
Pre-Order or purchase at launch (while supplies last) with Wal-Mart to get the ‘A Slip of the Tongue’ Traffic Case
(Also available via Play in the UK, and Wal-Mart in Canada)

“A Slip of the Tongue” is a bonus case from the Traffic Desk in which a seemingly run of the mill car theft ends up sparking an explosive investigation into the largest auto fraud racket the city has ever seen. With the stolen cars piling up and questionable characters at every turn, can you help Cole Phelps crack the biggest case so far in his career?

http://media.rockstargames.com/rockstargames/img/global/news/upload/lanoire_preorder_sharpshooter.jpg

Pre-Order or purchase at launch (while supplies last) with Best Buy to get 'The Sharpshooter' Detective Suit
(Also available via Zavvi in the UK, and Best Buy in Canada)

The Sharpshooter unlockable detective suit enhances your aim with rifles and pistols. Always a worst case scenario for any detective working a case, there are of course those occasions for Cole Phelps when pursuing a suspect escalates to gunfire. In these tense shootouts, the Sharpshooter suit provides that extra aiming precision to take the criminal down.

Also:
Everyone in North America who pre-orders their copy through the Rockstar Warehouse will receive an official L.A. Noire tee-shirt.
Everyone who pre-orders with Target will receive a $5 Gift Card, and get a free Rockstar Games t-shirt if purchasing the game in-store during launch week. All incentive offers are limited in quantity and available while supplies last.

R* L.A. Noire Q & A.

“What is the official release date for LA Noire?” - received via Twitter
“Nice to know the dates of release but what about a date for Australia?” - Tommy_Spaghetti

As confirmed officially recently, L.A. Noire will be coming to stores for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 17th 2011 in North America and May 20th 2011 in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. If you’re in another territory not covered in the above and would like to know when to expect the release of the game, drop us a line at mouthoff@rockstargames.com and we should be able to confirm the release availability for you.

“Hey Rockstar love the new LA Noire trailer! So you’re tracking down a serial killer the whole game?? Can’t wait to find out more!” - received via Mouthoff

Thanks! And actually the serial killer crimes are really just one portion of the game story. You are hot on the trail of that killer while working the Homicide crime desk, which is just one of five total crime desks Cole Phelps will work.

“@R* is there multiplayer in L.A. Noire? or just single player?” - ghostcheez

There will be no multiplayer component of L.A. Noire – the combination of innovative technology and unique gameplay that allow you to solve crimes through interrogations and investigation is really one that’s geared entirely for a single-player experience. Trust us that this is a game unlike any you’ve played before – very different not only for us here at Rockstar but for videogames as a medium. Bolting on generic multiplayer on top of that would not make much sense, or be a good use of our time or development budget! Hope this clears up any confusion. We thought this would be spelt out in some of last week's previews, but as it wasn't, we felt we should clarify ourselves.

“Hi R*. We heard about interrogations and analyzing a crime scene in L.A. Noire but what about follow a suspect on foot and in car, gathering information from informants, tap a phone call, milk a conversation? ....could be nice to hear more about gameplay.” - realrasta

Glad to see you’re getting into the spirit of it all – and yes, many of those things (but not all) and more will be part of the gameplay of L.A. Noire. From investigating crime scenes with a keen detective’s eye, to tense interrogations where you’ll have to pick up on nuances of what the suspect may (or may not) be telling you, to action-packed pursuit on foot, in car – plus fights and shootouts. We really wanted the game to make you feel like you are actually a detective, working criminal cases and making decisions about how you solve crimes and to build out a variety of gameplay moments and experiences to that effect. Look for a special new gameplay video about this subject called "Investigation and Interrogation" dropping this week.

“So, will I be able to choose from a wide range of questions when interrogating a suspect?” - The4ourTy67

“I'm guessing you get to choose from different questions/responses to ask your witness or suspect? Can these interrogations change the course of the game/story if not handled properly? Personally this aspect of the game is the most exciting for me. Nothing beats a good Noire mystery, I really hope that the cases take some serious effort to solve.” - IWIHooligan

You will always be given a range of questions when you interrogate a suspect, but the number and content of those questions is determined by how efficient you’ve been at searching related crime scenes for clues. The clues you discover can open up different leads to new locations or suspects, which in turn open up new options for a player to decide how to go about solving a case. Then during interrogations, it’s up to the player to correctly analyze a suspect in order to get the most information from them. Knowing when to believe a suspect, when to doubt them, and when to be certain they are lying (by presenting them with your evidence) will open up new ways for you to solve each case correctly. In every case, there is only one real truth about what happened - it’s up to your skill as a detective to discover it.

"All of those pre-order bonuses sound awesome but is there any way to get all of them? Hate to have to choose just one." - received via Mouthoff

All of the L.A. Noire pre-order content will be made available for purchase as DLC at some point after the game comes out. We have long planned to do this for all digital pre-order items. In case you’re interested, the Red Dead Redemption pre-order items (Deadly Assassin Outfit, Golden Guns Weapon Pack and War Horse) will finally be available for download via Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network this April. Apologies that has taken so long, but we ran into some technical issues. Stay tuned for more details.

“R*, will we be able to see the Hollywood sign in L.A. Noire???” - rk8000

Yes, however since the game takes place prior to the year 1949, we have the historically accurate original version “HOLLYWOODLAND” sign in there. You can read the full history of that iconic landmark at the Hollywood Sign wiki page here, but in short – the sign was originally erected in 1923 to promote the Hollywoodland housing development in the hills. It wasn’t until 1949 that the city of Los Angeles decreed that the sign be changed to be broadly about the district of Hollywood.

“So are we playing as a police detective or a private investigator in L.A. Noire?” - ghostx1984

You will play as LAPD detective Cole Phelps – and as the game progresses and you solve more cases, you will rise up through the ranks of the LAPD from a beat cop to other positions. Much more will be revealed about that in due time.

“Is this going to be a sandbox game? If yes, is it going to be GTA style or more like Mafia where it's really more of a set story game in sandbox world...” - MarenkaS

L.A. Noire is a detective game – and it is unlike any game we have made or anyone else has made that we are aware of. You solve a series of crimes, some of which are linked and some of which are not, in 1947 Los Angeles. As a company, we try to design games around the content and setting, rather than form the setting to the game design. So the answer to your question is not a simple yes or no, but it’s definitely not ‘GTA with fedoras’ and is something very original we’re excited for everyone to experience this May.

“Is the music in the L.A. Noire trailer original to the game?” - received via Twitter

The music in both trailers are pieces of original composition from the soundtrack – we will have full details on all of the music soon.

“I really like that L.A. Noire artwork [of Cole Phelps]. Are you going to release more artwork soon?” - The4ourTy67

Thanks! And most definitely. Look for lots more original L.A. Noire artwork of characters from the game as well as of some of the grisly crime scenes in the game to be revealed and released in the weeks and months ahead.

“[L.A. Noire] looks really great!!!! So the real murders and crimes of the 40's like the Black Dahlia murder are gonna be in this game or something??? I read something on Game Informer that says "suffice it to say that this game might feature some of Rockstar’s grittiest content ever." Well this sound's more and more awesome!!!!!!!!” - Mortal91ify

Thank you. Yes, all of the cases in the game that you’ll solve as Detective Cole Phelps are inspired by real life crimes that happened during the 1940’s. Names and places may have been changed though, along with a good degree of creative embellishment to add extra drama and twists and turns.

WHAT?! I've already given him the 4-1-1, so it's not like he doesn't know/thinks I'm "sneaking out" (although why he'd care if I snuck out, since I'm a grown adult, I have not the faintest idea...).

Rockstar revealed some new details about the game and future DLC

* The game will be on 3 discs for the Xbox 360 and filled up 1 Blu-Ray disc for the PS3. The game only needs to be swapped twice on the Xbox 360 and doesn't hurt the flow of the game.
* The game is 25-30 hours long which is typical for most Rockstar created games.
* A lot of cases were being developed with a bunch being reserved as DLC or as "stand-alone" sets during development which should help keep the game fresh for a while.
* Rockstar realizes this game might have less replay-value than most of their games which is why the made a lot of cases to play.

I doubt it. They've taken the old film noir movie concept and given it a new spin, kind of like a cross between the old police procedural/investigator movies and tv shows, and that new Fox show Lie To Me, or whatever it's called.

Only 10 more days though. So amped for this...

Was just reading the Best Buy flyer online. If you're one of the first 16 people in line at the midnight opening, you'll get the code for Nicholson Electroplaing Arson Case.

The first 16 people? I got a feeling everybody in line might get one. Somebody should go and confirm this.

As a huge fan of Phoenix Wright, you have no idea how this game is for me. Throw in some action to break it up with amazing writing and total across the board perfect performances and you have a game that actually leaves me speechless.

Cruise around town with your partner, get some good banter and maybe even pick up some side-missions. The side-missions are quick 10 minute action blasts and are fun, good to level up too.

In the main case though, it's slow paced to start with. Pick up and examine evidence done by just walking over and pressing A then moving the item around. Interrogations where you have to read the person and accept they're telling the truth, tell them they're lying with evidence or doubt them, which is accusing them of lying without evidence.

Then there's parkour chase scenes jumping around to tackle or subdue a perp. It does need things like that, shootings and car chases to break the game up and it does it perfectly. You can even fail cases and move on to the next with some consequences. Almost everything is perfectly executed with ridiculous polish.

It's a proper mature game and I mean that in the sense that everything that's there in a bloody or disturbing way is artistically justified and helps the game, unlike something like Manhunt which is edgy for edgy's sake. You will be dealing with some sick fucks.

If you've got both consoles, get the PS3. It was the lead platform and there is some very minor but occasionally noticeable pop-up in the 360. The only other issue I've had is that the animation can get in the way of some of the chase scenes. It's only very rare it happens, but it sucks when it does.

It's going to take something very special to be better than this as my GOTY. Hell, it might be my new favourite of all time. They say it has no replay value but trust me, like a good movie on DVD, you will want to keep this and play it again at some other time. Everything holds up. Amazing.

Got it at Midnight at Wal Mart and played for 3 hours. Pretty awesome. The graphics are just jaw dropping. There was an actor that I recognized standing outside of a bar drunk, couldn't tell you his name but I LOL'd. It truly feels like a interactive Hollywood film. You get into the case and you don't wanna quit till it's done, truly immersing.

GOTY right now, but Elder Scrolls Skyrim might be a contender for it too if it is as awesome as it is looking so far.

It's an isolated case with no bearing on the overall story. It would be silly to wait.

Also, I've not died in a shoot-out using a pistol, you don't need the machine gun.

The handling model is GTA4, but with much older, worse cars. The handling's fine if you remember to brake before turning like a real car.

Other drivers when you have the siren blaring, suck cock however.

That's been pretty consistent in the GTA series. Usually when traffic hears a signal, their first reaction is to either slam on the brakes or swerve in front of you. But it seems to work better in this game, I feel.

Something's happened that's take the shine off it the teeniest bit. It's at the last case of the homicide desk, so don't look until you've played it.

First off is the gameplay change. Now I have to work out puzzles and have pointless balancing mini-games. Ugh.

Secondly, if this dude killed all these women, what's the deal with all the evidence in the guys houses? Bloody tire irons, shirts and all size 8 shoe? Come on...

Some people are saying its due to how the older models have a different type of soldering on the circuit or motherboard similar to what was causing the YROD/YLOD issue. Firmware might be part of the reason but it also could be more of the fans working a lot more than usual with the newest update on older models.

Xbox 360 has been having some problems as well but mainly with older models.

Rockstar takes back their statement of blaming or co-blaming the newest PSN update after numerous complaints involving the Xbox 360 version sort of hurt the claim of the game not causing the problem.

Some reports are saying Sony might have forced Rockstar to re-issue their statement due to Sony not wanting more bad publicity and once it was found out Xbox 360 were also suffering the same issue at around the same rate.

They are currently working on solving the problem with an update but it still has been shown to be more of a problem with older PS3/Xbox 360 models than the Slims or Elites. Current solution for Xbox 360 owners is to clear the cache to see if it helps to solve thr problem until the patch is ready.

"1 [hour in to L.A. Noire]. Moriarty was right re games as kitsch. Derivative, uninspired, narcissistic. Nothing original to say, & said badly."

Kitsch basically means something that is worthless or a crappy copy of something else.

So far just him and the creator or producer for Heavy Rain have trashed the game. Heavy Rain creator/producer tried to trash it saying the facial and gameplay style was inferior to Heavy Rain even though Rockstar's uses a better engine.

There are multiple ways to do some cases, just not all.

I like that it's linear though, there's no way in hell they could have done motile endings for everything and have this brilliant a narrative unless it came on 2 blu-rays and made 360 owners cry.

I loved this game when I was first playing it, but lately it's almost daring me to like it. The biggest, most glaring flaw in this game comes with the interrogations. The logic used is so convoluted, it's more wondering how the game is going to connect the dots rather than reading a lie.

In one question, I asked a guy if anyone had any reason to kill his wife. He said no. Seemed pretty straight, so I chose Truth. I was wrong. Okay, I didn't read him right. So I try it again and go with Doubt, since I have no proof that his wife wasn't cool. And again I'm wrong. So finally I pick lie, and in my accusation I bring up how she was strangled with rope I had found in his house. How could I guess the questioning would go from whether or not she was a cool chick to "I found rope"? This is just one example; this kind of thing happens alot.

I still play it, though. I'm trying really hard to like it, despite the glaring flaws.

If you haven't yet, you should always start each case at the scene finding every scrap of evidence you can. If you accuse someone of lying and don't have the right evidence to back it up that will end your interrogation of them short, making it more difficult to crack the case.

Also, on an ep. of AOTS last week they had a game break segment with Adam Sessler from X-Play...one thing he suggested was to always go back and replay each case. If you did well the first time, and got let's say, 4 or 5 stars, see what happens when you choose the wrong option or miss a key piece of evidence or cause massive amounts of damage to the city (which affects your duty fitness rating at the end of each case). Those are the kind of things where you'll have to look if you want replay value.

Take-Two (Rockstar's parent company) views L.A. Noire as worthy of franchise or series status. They didn't say how high of a status the series would be but its assumed to be lower than their premiere franchise of GTA but did mention it being equal to Red Dead Redemption.

Rockstar has already said in the past they want to expand the game with more cases as DLC and mentioned they loved working on the game due to it being a bit different than most Rockstar games.

"We certainly don't want to be subject to [comparing] all of our new releases of new franchises against the extraordiany success of Red Dead Redemption," said Zelnick. "Every title stands alone. We have every reason to believe L.A. Noire is another strong franchise for this company."

He would not, however, elaborate on sales specifics.

"No matter how you slice it," he said, "Ii's a very successful release. To be able to say that again is extraordinary. This management team is just immensely grateful to Rockstar for delivering another superb title and 2K [Games] for all the franchises they've been delivering as of late. One can never take that for granted. The hit ration of this group is extraordinary."

Got this from ASDA last night for £30 on my brother-in-laws recommendation.

I've only played the tutorial cases so far but I like what I see. I can see myself enjoying it a lot.

The one thing I'm not so sure about is the clue hunting. The pad rumbling and the sound effect takes some of the searching out of it. Maybe the music getting louder the closer you got to a clue would work better.
I've not used it enough to form a definite opinion, though.

I was pleased to see destructible enviroments when I

Backtrack in free roam. Find all the cars, complete all street crime cases, get all the landmarks, etc.

Just wrapped this up.

I'm with G. Didn't like the ending. I was expecting everybody to get rounded up and sent to the slammer. Cole goes back to homicide or whatever and Kelso really starts his new gig as the D.A's right hand man. Instead Cole gets washed away and Earle is giving the eulogy. I liked the final flashback at the end of the credits.

Now if Sony gets the Store up tomorrow, I'll be happy.

Now if Sony gets the Store up tomorrow, I'll be happy.

They announced a few days ago that May 31st isn't happening. ETA is now in June :foc:

Just counted and I now have 6 DLC codes sitting on my desk. Most of which are for games I have already traded out. Double :foc:

I just want to point out, that here we are 1 week later and I have completed the game. Owning the game and spending a whopping $2.09 compared to your >$45. Now, I will be sending it to RoXer1, where he will also have the game for a whopping $2.09, compared to your >$45. Also got MK for a whopping $2.09 compared to your >$45.

Well whoopdie fucking do I'm happy for you.

DLC for the game is out. You can buy them all seperately or as an 800MSP package.
There is also a free DLC gun called the Chicago Piano. It's a tommy gun and you get it by going to the trunk of your police car during a fire fight and pressing A.
It seems really powerful. Kills enemies instantly, regardless of where you hit them, it seems.

Yeah wasn't huge on the ending either really.

I felt it was just way too overdramatic. They didn't do a good enough job of fleshing out Phelps' character to make it that impactful. I appreciate what they tried to do but he literally had no character development until about half way through the game, and even then it wasn't much to go on.

Absolutely loved the rest of the game though. Way more satisfying than GTAIV imo and more engaging than RDR.

Yahtzee just ruined the final sequence of the game for me in this weeks Zero Punctuation and on his Twitter page.
It wasn't even for any real reason. He just ends the episode by basically saying "Btw, the game ends with X happening".

Anyone that wants to play the game unspoiled should avoid both those things until they're done.

Drakul
06-03-2011, 03:25 AM
Finished the game late last night. Yahtzee didn't spoil it as much as I had thought.

As for the ending:
The ending was weakened by the fact we didn't get to play as Phelps for the last couple of cases. Because of that, we had a little distance from him and, when he was killed, it didn't hit as much as it could have had I been playing as him the whole time.

It also doesn't help that we didn't get to see his body so I couldn't be sure he was dead. I was half expecting it to turn out that he wasn't dead at all and the funeral was just a formal thing like when someone is lost at sea and presumed dead.

It was interesting and believable that the "bad guys" seem to have gotten away with it and that the good guy died.

I'm thinking the last DLC will be Kelso hunting down the "bad guys" and ending with him arresting/killing the crooked vice cop, though.

<font color=goldenrod>Finished the game.

Gotta echo the statements of everyone else. Wasn't too fond of the ending. If we could have at least killed Earle I could have lived with it.

Still have a ton of cars and landmarks to find, but I don't care so much about that. I DO want to replay though to see if I can collect all of the papers. I only found like 10 or 11 of them and I have no idea where I missed.</font>

No need to play through the whole game again. Go to the case selection from the main menu. Each case with a paper to find has a paper symbol next to it. Just play those cases and keep and eye out for each paper.

The only part I agree with you guys on in regards to the ending is that:

You should have played as Phelps more towards the end, albeit it does make sense that you don't given he was taken off the case. If anything they should have at least let you play as him for the tunnel segment at the end.

I actually felt pretty sad when Phelps died, even more so after seeing Roy giving his eulogy or whatever. idk, video game protagonist deaths shake me up, Marston and Phelps both.

Anyways, who was your guys favorite partner? I loved Rusty, and hated Biggs until he ran out of the house, disgusted, when they were treating the burned people as evidence in case 2 of Arson. I felt it gave him a lot more character to have him react like that, on top of never firing his weapon and formerly being in a war. Definitely was expecting him to give the eulogy.

<font color=goldenrod>Rusty was easily the best partner. The fact that you're with him the longest doesn't hurt either.

Biggs' character development was nice but it's still only a short while that you're with him. Earle was a huge douche so it was hard to like him. And Bekowski you barely spend any time with.</font>

Visually, this game is amazing. I don't think anyone would say otherwise. There are a few pop-in moments and the draw distance isn't as big as I thought it would be but whatever, it's still "visually stunning".

Nothing innovative though as far as gameplay was concerned. It felt like I could be playing the same game on an old apple computer with 8-bit graphics and just have two frames of someone with shifty eyes if they're lying or something. And a giant 8-bit "thing" to walk over as a clue. And hell, selectable text where the choices pop up in 8-bit windows would have been an improvement over the shoot-in-the-dark truth/doubt/lie system where you never know what you're going to get or even how you're going to respond.

I dunno. It felt like a pig in make-up. Beautifully done, technology advancing, historically accurate, make-up though.

Just finished the game and...

What the fuck?! Two games running now Rockstar kill off the main character! Saying that, I felt more devistated at John Marston death (whoops spoiler alert) than I did Cole's. I just didn't care for him in the end. He pussied out in the war, cheated on his wife with a GERMAN and to be honest I think he got what he deserved. Like most people, I loved the game and will no doubt spend many more hours on this with the collectables and dlc, but the ending was pretty lame.

Go there, then just look up whichever case you're starting or in the middle of for all the clues and correct answers to get a ***** out of 5 rating on every case.

Unless of course, you're trying to do the entire game the first time without help. Otherwise, you're welcome. :)

PC port finally announced to be arriving later this year and will contain some enhancements and bonuses with Rockstar Leeds handling the port. The game will be available both on disc and on digital services but no news was given if the console DLC will also be arriving.

The PC version of the highly-celebrated game has been developed by Rockstar Leeds and is promised to run on a wide range of PCs. The game will feature customization, including keyboard remapping and gamepad functionality to both optimize and customize the performance and user experience along with “increased fidelity and improved graphical enhancements”.

Lastly, the PC version of L.A. Noire will feature 3D support in an effort to deliver “an even greater sense of interaction and immersion within a painstakingly detailed 1940s Los Angeles”.

I try to do everything on my own first, only resetting if I bungle something crucial. Find that sometimes I don't know whether to "Doubt" or "Lie" because I'm not sure which direction the accusation is going...that's where I run into the majority of my trouble.

He's right. Except you CAN skip driving by holding Y/Triangle after setting the location to make your partner drive. You will also be prompted whether or not to skip certain action sequences after 3 failed attempts, and it doesn't affect your case rating at the end. So if you're going for 5 stars on a case and you get frustrated with an action sequence, just hit yes anytime after a 3rd failed attempt to move on.

I understand completely. :) But, incidentally, if you don't get all cases 5 starred the first time, that comes in handy (the link), especially if you don't want to waste 15 or 20 $ on a "real" guide.

Just thought I'd point that out in case people didn't know there's a achievement for all cases with 5 star results (doesn't have to be 1st playthrough).

Spoiler tagged that in case some people are picky about not having achievements spoiled.

Yeah, pretty sure all the cases in the game are based off either a noire movie of the 1940's or actual crimes that were committed in L.A. sometime during the 1940's.

Also, just finished the game last night a little after 12AM (won't spoil anything here), but HOLY SHIT! :(:y:

Get the Rockstar Pass, and it works out around 800 points for 4 new cases. Each cases probably takes 1 to 2 hours to complete, and there are 100 Gamer Points in each.

Worth investing in even if you were tired of the game at the end, as the cases allow you to play as Cole in different departments and at different stages of the game.

Nicholson Electroplating is definitely more of an action case, with a lot more shooting and chasing involved. Personally, I enjoyed the Naked City case as it was the most balanced of the 3 available so far.

Enjoyed the game, although I got a little tired of the formulaic game-play by the end and was a little bemused by the sudden change in protagonist.

There's no longevity in it really. Other than the DLC and maybe chasing a few achievements in free roam, there's really no desire to pick this up again at any point. Unlike the GTA series, Red Dead or Saints Row, there just seems to be a lack of freedom that you'd expect from a 'sandbox' game.

Little changes like allowing Cole to draw his gun and shoot when you please would be a welcome addition. Don't get me wrong, I got at least 20 hours solid entertainment from this, but I still can't help feeling underwhelmed overall.

Ended up not picking up the DLC cases...found that by the end, it wasn't the gameplay that was keeping me hooked, but more the overarching plot. Didn't need a re-tread on the game itself, though maybe in a few months when things are feeling more fresh I'll give 'em a go.

How is he not a douche?

Just thought of something else, too. Once you get to max. rank (20), if you start a new case or quit in the middle of a case after a save point you can use all 5 intuition points to Remove an Answer or Show All Clues. With the second half of that, if you're confused, what I mean is, say you get frustrated with your mistakes/lack of being able to find all clues/whatever at a scene after a save point. If you quit to the main menu and jump back in to the case you are on, it won't have mattered if you used every single IP, all 5 will be restored because you are max. rank.

I paid for the "Rockstar Pass" so I would download the new DLC if I hadn't traded in the game. I was so bored with the gameplay, I didn't see the point of keeping it and certainly didn't see myself wanting to play itthrough again in the future.

Rockstar hints that more DLC might be coming in the near future as all of the DLC so far has been cases that had to be scrapped during development to fit the size of a Blu-Ray disc but at the same time they didn't say that all the extra cases have been used up.

A Rockstar spokesperson recently announced that "L.A. Noire isn't complete", and opened up the possibility for more DLC in the future. Over the game's troubled development history, it was revealed that a large amount of game content, including entire desks, were scrapped to make sure the game fit onto one Blu-Ray (or three DVD) discs. The downloadable cases released thus far have assumedly been part of those scrapped cases, but it's likely that we may get entirely new desks in the future.
