View Full Version : Ok so who wins the KotR? (Contains spoilers.)

Ermaximus
11-24-2010, 11:24 AM
Ok so with the 8 participants chosen for the KotR next week on Raw, who of these guys has the best chance to win it and jump into the main event scene?

Raw

John Morrison-He has to be the Raw hands on favorite, yes I know Danielson is in it too, but I really don't see the US Champ winning the KotR sadly. Morrison winning would be a huge way to get him to that next level, especially if they turn him heel afterwards, as they've done with many a KotR winners.

Ezekial Jackson-It's a long shot, but he has the size to win. I more or less see him jobbing to Del Rio in the first round or something so I wouldn't bet on him.

Daniel Bryan-Him winning would be huge for him and no doubt the potential for a Danielson/Miz fued for the WWE Title would surely crash the IWC. iI'm almost certain that he is an odds on favorite to win this for a lot of people, especially here on TPWW, but I don't see a guy who is already holding a title winning the KotR. I see Danielson putting on 2 good matches though and that's always a plus. TBH, I see Dibiase costing him the KotR.

Sheamus-Here's a guy who wouldn't really gain much IMO from the KotR. Yeah he'd get the title 2010 KotR and garner even more heat, but Sheamus is well on his way to being an overly established heel in the Raw main event. Considering the overall plans for him are a fued with HHH when he returns anyways, I don't see Sheamus winning this, but I could and most likely am wrong.

Smackdown

Kofi Kingston-Kofi winning could be huge for him on a show that seems to want to push new guys to the top. Kofi puts on some solid matches and they are always entertaining and to be honest, the guy seems kind of lost in the shuffle at the moment. This guy was over huge at the start of the year and now he's just kind of lost that spark he had. A Kofi KotR win could do wonders for the guy.

Alberto Del Rio-Easily could win, but given his ongoing fued with Rey, I can see Del Rio losing in the final due to outside interference from Rey and/or Big Show. It's a given this guy is a heel and in the long run, I think his attitude on screen with the other SD talent will ultimately cost him.

Drew McIntyre-For a guy who was "chosen" by Vinnie Mac, he really hasn't done much. Maybe this is the way to get him back in the spotlight? I'd be ok with the guy winning as he's solid, but sadly I see him being outed in the first round which would really suck. Honestly, I'm hoping for a Danielson/McIntyre match at some point during the KotR.

"Dashing" Cody Rhodes-This guy winning would be gold. The gimmick he has is one of the better ones I've seen in a while and him being a "king" would just make it that much sweeter. Imagine it now. Royal Grooming tips with the "Dashing King" Cody Rhodes. I realize he got his win over Rey on SD via outside help, but who cares? Cody could take this whole thing and if Morrison doesn't win it all, then my next choice is this guy.

So who do you see getting the rub? Discuss your potential thoughts, predictions, and matchups you hope to see during the KotR.

I would for Smackdown until Friday. After SD, I'm taking the spoiler tags out, but I've taken as many precautions as I could to avoid people complaning about spoilers. Title says it all. All I ask is just be considerate to your fellow posters mr VSG.

Not yet because the Smackdown superstars haven't been made "official" yet. It's most likely be drawn up either on SD or something.

I don't really care to be honest. KotR hasn't really been KotR since they stopped doing it at a PPV.

Unless they did the tournament now, and had the finals at a PPV.

My bracket prediction:

Del Rio d. Zeke
Bryan d. McIntyre
Morrison d. Sheamus
Rhodes d. Kofi

Del Rio shows himself a credible threat by taking out big Zeke, Bryan goes over McIntyre but he does his whole injure the arm routine, Morrison proves it wasn't a fluke that he beat Sheamus and Rhodes gets a cheap win over Kofi.

Del Rio d. Bryan
Morrison d. Rhodes

Del Rio takes advantage of Bryan's arm injury and makes the submission specialist tap out, Morrison beats Rhodes but is jumped by Sheamus after the bell.

Morrison d. Del Rio

Del Rio is looking odds on to win but Morrison pulls off the win out of nowhere.

Mr. Nerfect

It could really be anyone. Sheamus really doesn't need it, so he's the guy I will eliminate first. But he'll likely get through to the second round to just remind everyone he's meant to be a bad-ass.

I really wish they'd just give it to the guy who is the best in the ring. It'd be a nice way to restore prestige to the tournament. So, with that in mind, my heart goes with Daniel Bryan taking the whole thing. It'd be a nice rub for the US Title, too. Perhaps they could do The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan in a TLC Match at the next PPV? That'd be...sick.

John Morrison and Kofi Kingston are both essentially in the same boat, where they are both ready to move up to the main event, as there is nothing left for them to do in the mid-card. Either one of them could really benefit with the victory. Right now, Kofi seems like he'd get more out of the win, but it'd be more natural for Morrison to take the entire tournament.

Ezekiel Jackson could win it, and get the mammoth push. I think Vince would see dollar signs in the guy, and why not? There's some perversely entertaining about Big Zeke. He's not going to make any money by not winning. I just don't think he's the best choice. Also, he's not the sort of worker who can go through one of these things without getting too winded.

Alberto Del Rio would continue his push by winning this thing, but with him costing Rey Mysterio a spot in the tournament, I think it would make sense for Rey to cost Del Rio here. King Del Rio would work, and the guy already wears a crown on his attire. It wouldn't be shocking if he won, but I also don't think he'd be the guy that would benefit the most. I see him beating Ezekiel Jackson, or something, as others have said, and looking good. Perhaps right up to the finals.

"Dashing" Cody Rhodes, as much as I like him as a performer, doesn't really seem to suit the gimmick. He is getting all his heat from being an arrogant metrosexual. To add a crown to that? It throws the entire thing out of orbit, really. Don't get me wrong, I can see "King Dashing," and it would evolve Cody's character; but I dunno. Something isn't right about it. As has been the case with some of the other guys, I just don't think he needs it as much as some others.

Drew McIntyre could win. It seems there's been renewed interest in him out of nowhere. "The Scottish King," "The Chosen King," etc. I can see it. It'd give Drew some direction. Like Cody, it wouldn't surprise me if Drew won, but it'd still feel left-field.

You basically will likely have two faces and two heels go forward. You'll also likely have two RAW guys and two SmackDown! guys going forward (at least to the semis). The heels I put forward are Alberto Del Rio and Drew McIntyre. Sheamus puts over the whole tournament by jobbing out, and Rhodes can look good in losing. He'll still have his heat.

The faces I put forward are John Morrison and Daniel Bryan. I think Bryan gets nothing by losing in the first round, and the same goes for Morrison, in a way. Kofi Kingston can get an impressive showing, and Ezekiel Jackson can be out-smarted by Del Rio. So Drew McIntyre is left to face Kofi Kingston in the first round. I'd go with Morrison against Sheamus, proving that his first win wasn't a fluke, and Bryan is left to go over Cody Rhodes.

First Round:

* Alberto Del Rio defeats Ezekiel Jackson via countout.
* Daniel Bryan defeats "Dashing" Cody Rhodes via submission.
* John Morrison defeats Sheamus via pinfall.
* Drew McIntyre defeats Kofi Kingston via pinfall.

Semi-Finals:

* Alberto Del Rio defeats Daniel Bryan via submission.
* John Morrison defeats Drew McIntyre via pinfall.

Finals:

* John Morrison defeats Alberto Del Rio via pinfall with help from Rey Mysterio.

But I would book the tournament with Bryan submitting Del Rio in the first round; McIntyre pinning Ezekiel Jackson (looking like a beast in the process); John Morrison beating Cody Rhodes; Kofi Kingston upsetting Sheamus. Then in the second round, Del Rio costs Daniel Bryan the match against Drew McIntyre, and John Morrison barely squeaks one out over Kofi, with a good ol' fashioned hand-shake afterwards. The final sees John Morrison getting the big win.

I do see Morrison winning it, but I loved the idea of Sheamus winning and doing the whole Celtic Warrior gimmick he had in FCW, with the sword, cape and facepaint. Hell yeah. I've been saying for a while that I'd love to see them play up the Celtic Warrior gimmick more. Make it really over the top. I think he could play off a gimmick like that. It's an over the top gimmick, but much like how Mark Callaway pulled off the Undertaker one, I think Sheamus could do it. Not sure about the face paint though.

Ermaximus, let me teach you a little something about comedy. Kofi's entry in the poll should have read "Kingston, Kofi." Would have kept an excellent running theme in the list and not left Kofi hanging out looking bland.

I'm also leading towards Morrison. He needs something to do to keep him in the spotlight, and giving him the King title will keep him visible and fresh until the inevitable Miz vs Morrison feud, hopefully culminating at a Wrestlemania title match. If they don't go with the KotR for Morrison, he should definitely take the Rumble.

It's not THAT over the top. Yeah, it could be seen as a bit silly at first, but it harks back to following the path of a Celtic Warrior. I don't think he should go around and "live the gimmick" like Booker did, but use them as props as he promos about the Celtic Warrior and what it stands for. It could even be a one-off thing.

It can be likened to Piper wearing the face paint at Mania. It had a purpose.

I voted for Morrison, however I'd much rather see somebody like Daniel Bryan, Alberto Del Rio, or Sheamus. Really wish they would push Sheamus back to the top. Morrison is definitly cool and definitly deserves a push, I just feel as if there are other people (such as Daniel Bryan and Sheamus), who should be getting pushed to the WWE Championship race. Morrison strikes me as an Intercontinental Champ kind of guy, don't see him being a World Champ. Sheamus already proved he could be a World Champ. And if Bryan can keep getting the fans behind him, and Del Rio can keep drawing heat like he is, I can definitly see them in the World Championship race down the line.

For the other guys, Kofi and Cody don't strike me as ever being Main Event guys. I know Kofi had his push, but he just didn't do it for me. Zeke is a monster, they could use him for a brief push, just bulldozing everybody. And McIntyre I enjoy also, would like to see him get pushed hard like he was when he first came around.

My picks:

Quarterfinals

Alberto Del Rio over Ezekiel Jackson due to Jackson passing out to the armbar. The announcers hype that Jackson never submitted, but ADR looks like a million bucks by beating the massive Zeke.

John Morrison over Daniel Bryan via pinfall with the Starship Pain after Ted DiBiase interferes. They tease tension between Bryan and JoMo, but Bryan eventually acknowledges that Morrison didn't know Ted was out there and they shake hands.

Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre fight to a double-disqualification as the tension between the former Tag Team Champions continues to build. Match ends with the ref trying to break up a brawl in the corner and both guys taking turns shoving him to the mat to continue fighting. Alberto Del Rio is shown celebrating backstage, as he's now earned a berth in the finals!

Sheamus over Kofi Kingston via pinfall with the High Cross. Kofi starts to set up the S.O.S. (of course, Cole calls it a modified-something-or-other), but Sheamus powers out of it, gets Kofi up, and drops him with the Cross.

Semifinal

John Morrison over Sheamus in a Survivor Series rematch. Pretty similar to their SS match as this rivalry continues to grow.

Final

Alberto Del Rio over John Morrison via submission with the armbar. Hopefully WWE doesn't drop the ball on this and gives them enough time to tell the story of two guys who could define this company well into the next decade. At the end of the night, Del Rio gets himself crowned the new "Rey" of WWE, building up to a huge showdown match with Rey Mysterio down the line. Would love to see that build all the way up to 'Mania, actually. Del Rio saying that Rey called himself that name, but Del Rio earned it.

Here is how I would personally book the tournament:

First Round:

* Daniel Bryan over Alberto Del Rio via submission. Many people expect Alberto Del Rio to take the tournament, but I think it would be quite shocking of Del Rio were eliminated in the first round. By submission, no less. Give these guys fifteen minutes in the opening match, and time to tell a story.

* Drew McIntyre over "Dashing" Cody Rhodes via pinfall. These two are former Tag Team Champions together, so I hope that is enough heat for them to work. For those who won't notice, the brackets are arranged alphabetically, just for the hell of it (with Cody registering "Dashing" as his name in the tournament). McIntyre gets the clean victory with the Future Shock, but Rhodes gets a chance to look good, as well.

* John Morrison over Ezekiel Jackson via pinfall. Morrison and Jackson shake hands before the match, and Morrison is hopefully talented enough to really carry Jackson towards an entertaining first round match. Morrison manages to drill Jackson with a Flying Chuck to get the pinfall and advance over Michael Cole's "darkhorse" pick to win the whole thing.

* Kofi Kingston over Sheamus via pinfall. The Celtic Warrior does not need the win here, and Kofi gets so much from going over Sheamus cleanly. Kingston and Sheamus would have what I assume would be an entertaining match, and they can continue to play up Sheamus' "bad luck" recently.

Semi-Finals:

* Drew McIntyre over Daniel Bryan via pinfall. A bitter loser in Alberto Del Rio makes his presence known during this match, and costs Bryan his spot in the tournament. That would fit Del Rio's gimmick, and would keep Bryan looking strong without him needing to go through into the finals.

* John Morrison over Kofi Kingston via pinfall. The two guys again shake hands, and Morrison and Kingston work what would hopefully be a really exciting match. I see the finish coming down to a series of roll-ups, where Morrison eventually keeps Kofi down for the three count. Kofi gets to look pretty strong in his loss, and beat a two-time WWE Champion to get to where he was.

Finals:

* John Morrison over Drew McIntyre via pinfall to become the 2010 King of the Ring. Morrison gets the feel good victory, and McIntyre gets to make it to the finals. Morrison gets the pin, hopefully with a move like the Superkick, just to give him something more...impactful than Starship Pain.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Kofi Kingston…Del Rio with the win.
Cody Rhodes vs. Daniel Bryan…Bryan with the win.
Drew McIntyre vs. Ezekiel Jackson…Jackson with the win.
John Morrison vs. Sheamus…Sheamus with the win.

Del Rio vs. Bryan…Del Rio with the win.
Jackson vs. Sheamus…Jackson with the win.

Del Rio vs. Jackson…Rey Mysterio distracts Del Rio with Jackson winning.

I think the final is going to be Morrison v Del Rio. I want to say Morrison wins because of Rey, but I think this is Del Rio's tourney to win. This would solidify him as a main eventer, IMO.

Jeritron
11-29-2010, 12:36 AM
I was pretty convinced on Sheamus, but the more I think of it I begin to feel like Morrison or Del Rio will pick up the win.
The only reason I have doubts at all that it wouldn't be one of those two, is because Sheamus just came off an upset and I'm not sure that they'd have him lose this tourney.

If he doesn't win this, I think he's as good a candidate as any to win the Rumble.

That's actually what I'd go with. I'd have him get upset by Daniel Bryan here. Even if it's thanks to a HHH tease or Morrison.
Then he can win the Rumble by tossing HHH out.

I'm not sure how that would factor into Mania plans though.

He didn't need it but it's not that terrible of a thing that it's a waste to put it on him. If they don't plan to push Morrison further then it would have been a huge waste to put it on him. At least it's on someone who will definitely go onto a big program soon.

Sheamus deserves it, because although he's been champion his push is still moving upward. I think it furthers him.
I think Morrison will get pushed more, but not yet. He's probably top candidate for MITB or KOTR in 2011.

It's nice to see Sheamus join the ranks. It sort of helps the cred of the gimmick too, since he's a top guy and former champion now.
It makes it look worth winning, instead of just going to midcarders. Something about Sheamus winning it feels more prestigious than JoMo, Del Rio or Bryan, as much as I love them.
I think the KOTR needed that boost a bit. Sheamus feels like he fits with the title, rather than putting it on a midcarder right now.

In addition to Bret, Booker T was a former WCW Champion (in WWE) before winning. Not sure how much that counts. He was more or less already there though. The KOTR just gave him a second wind.
