GANTZ to be released in the US before Japan
Arashi’s Kazunari Ninomiya (27) and actor Kenichi Matsuyama’s upcoming movie “GANTZ” will have its premiere screening in the United States, ahead of the Japan release, it was revealed today at a press conference in Tokyo, reports Oricon, Mainichi Shinbum Digital, and Cinema Today.
The movie will be released in 300 cinemas across the US on January 20 2011, more than a week before its Japan release on January 29.
The announcement was made for the first time today, and the movie’s cast could not hide their surprise.
“There are many people in different countries who love ‘GANTZ’ so I hope they’re happy that GANTZ will go out into the world,” Ninomiya said.
It has been reported that Matsuyama was still trying to get his head around the situation.
“Why is America first. I don’t know why Japan’s later but this is an amazing opportunity I guess,” he said as Ninomiya cheered him up.
At the press conference, Ninomiya looked back on the five months the two actors had spent filming the movie together.
“As we were filming we tried to read each other’s moves and emotions more, so I think we got to know each other more and more,” he said.
One co-star who said he did not have enough time talking to Ninomiya was Takayuki Yamada (27).
“I know I didn’t have many scenes in the movie, but once I tried to talk him into letting me into Arashi and he said no…I wonder if it’ll be the same with NEWS…,” he said.
Ninomiya responded by saying, “let’s talk about the movie, shall we”.
The two also talked about how they felt about GANTZ.
“It’s taken a long time to get to today but we’re finally here with a finished product.
“It was a project that made me think in so many ways. The human drama and the actions are incredible,” Ninomiya said.
“It took a long time to shoot, and the CG fighting scenes were really hard. It was difficult to play a character who goes in and out of reality, but at the same time it was really fun,” Matsuyama said.
GANTZ part one will open in Japan cinemas on January 29, 2011, and part two will be released on April 23.
The Washington Post newspaper confirms that Viz Pictures' New People unit and the digital theater distributor NCM Fathom will hold the world premiere of the first of two live-action Gantz films on Thursday, January 20 throughout the United States. "An exclusive live interview" with the film's stars Kazunari Ninomiya and Ken'ichi Matsuyama will immediately follow the English over-dubbed screenings. The one-night event will run at 8:00 p.m. EST, 7:00 p.m. CST, 6:00 p.m. MST, and 8:30 p.m. PST (tape delayed). (NCM's website currently lists a January 29 date.)
The production staff had announced at the first film's Japanese premiere on Monday that the film will run in 300 theaters in the United States. According to Cinema Today, 19 companies from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and other Western countries offered to distribute the two films. The first film will open in Japan on January 29, and the second film will open on April 23

I hope to God they don't fuck up that 3rd game like they did in the anime. Nishii better be a fucking badass sicko, Kato better be hardcore, and that dog better be in there. I wouldn't mind seeing the panda either.

Not sure. I don't think they'll be too badass...well in US/Western standers. I'm so PISSED at it being Dubbed!

Live action sub-titled movies don't go over that well here. People don't wanna have to pay to read subtitles while trying to catch all the action. I just hope the dubbing is so horrible that you feel like you're watching an old ass Godzilla movie or something.

I know subs don't go over well most of the time, and they're trying to sell this movie to a lot of people, but I'm not seeing the dub selling to well with many Gantz fans, or Arashi (Ninomiya's band/group) fans. So far the Gantz fans haven't done much, but the Arashi fans are/have already set in action a campaine to if not get the dubbing stopped, then asking that the second movie be subbed, or maybe have dubbed and non dubbed options in the theater. These girls/women aren't messing around. They have emails for the distributor of the movie (NCM Fathom) and the dub company ( VIZ Pictures, Inc) and everyone seems to be sending in sub request.
Even though I don't like dubs, finding out VIZ is inchange of the dubbing makes me happy. They did the Death Note Movies, and they had the anime cast come in to do the dubs.

The trailer has me sold. The movie looks solid and hints that the movie will likely end after the 3rd game against those giant statue things. If the movie doesn't get released in my city then I'll just wait until MovieStop can get it in and buy it on DVD/Blu-Ray and watch it the way it's meant to be watched. Subtitled. Either way, I'm hyped for this as Gantz is one of my top 5 animes. Good find AKin3d! :y:

Sadly nothing close to me.
TICKETS NOW ON SALE. I haven't seen a list of all 300 theaters pop up yet but if you search for Gantz on movietickets.com and fandango.com, you can find some theaters (in fact both list different theaters) and buy tickets for it already! I think they are adding more as time goes on.

Presented by NCM Fathom and NEW PEOPLE, in association with Dark Horse Comics, GANTZ (English dubbed) tells the story of childhood friends Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato who are accidentally killed while trying to save another man’s life. Rather than find themselves in the hereafter, however, they awaken in a strange apartment in which they find a mysterious black orb they come to know as “GANTZ.” Along with similar abductees, they are provided with equipment and weaponry and manipulated into playing a kind of game in which they are sent back out to the greater world to do battle with alien beings, all while never quite knowing whether this game is an illusion or their new reality.
Ninomiya and Matsuyama are two of Japan’s biggest stars. Ninomiya, best known in America for his role in Clint Eastwood’s 2006 blockbuster, Letters from Iwo Jima, is both an actor and a singer. He is world-renowned as a member of the Japanese boy band “Arashi,” which topped Japan’s music charts in 2009 with the three best-selling singles. Matsuyama has been one of the most sought-after actors in Japanese film and has won several awards including Japanese Academy Awards Best New Actor (2007) and Most Popular Actor (2009). Matsuyama is recognized for his part as L in Death Note (2006), Death Note II: the Last Name (2006) and Death Note: L, change the WorLd (2008).
“GANTZ is the kind of kinetic action film that pushes the boundaries of the sci-fi genre,” said Seiji Horibuchi, founder of NEW PEOPLE. “We’re very excited to work with NCM Fathom and Dark Horse Comics to organize this special event and look forward to the property’s domestic popularity growing even more following this new release.”
GANTZ will appear in 325 theaters, including AMC Entertainment Inc., Cinemark USA Inc., Clearview Cinemas, Cobb Theatres, Goodrich Quality Theatres, Hollywood Theaters, Marcus Theatres, National Amusements, Rave Motion Pictures, R/C Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters, as well as The Beacon Cinema (Pittsfield, MA), The Carolina Theatre (Asheville, NC) and Palace Cinema 9 (South Burlington, VT), through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network — North America’s largest cinema broadcast network.
“GANTZ offers a thrilling world that nobody has ever seen in live-action,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of NCM Fathom. “Incredibly popular in Japan as well as among American manga and anime enthusiasts, this new GANTZ rendition is sure to thrill audiences in local movie theaters around the country.”

This actually has all 331 chapters. It really starts to pick up around the 3rd "mission" and some of the translations make little sense so you have to do your best to translate what they wrote with what they really meant. You'll hit some filler here and there, but that's too be expected in any manga/anime these days. Hell, look at One Piece. Over 600 chapters!
Overall, it's a damned good series.

My big thing is I messed up reading this manga and become a skip reader. You know read all the good stuff saying "one day I'll read the whole thing." I'm really bad at doing that. SO I'm in the 200, but I've miss much at the same time. I think it was the mistake of watching the Anime.
I'm going to put that link you posted to good use and restart. I've got the time.
BTW the cast was here in the US before the end of the year. They went to Cincinnati.

I watched the anime first too, several years back. I just recently read all 331 chapters in the span of about a week, having read a good majority of it this past weekend. Fucking pumped though as I really wanna know what happens next and don't want to wait for the next chapters. Have a feeling Gantz will be ending soon though.

It's a Manga/Anime and now Live Action Movie.
OH I AM SO PISSED!!!
So today, just suddenly my theater pops up saying they got the movie. So we go and guess what. The fucking recording only will play the first 30 minutes of the 3 hours of video, which is all Ads for the companies who are the ones that got the movie out. The theater called the company and asked what to do the recording wasn't playing. The company told them they couldn't help and really just said fuck you. The theater guys tried, and hell they even tried to reason with them to allow them to play the movie tomorrow. Nope. I wrote the companies saying they should help get the theater rights to play the movie. I don't care about all the extras....ok I do, but I just want to see the movie. They should be able to get the damn movie played!
Update: Movie theater couldn't do simple time zone math. Today my mother pointed out to me that if the movie was a live stream at 8:30PT, then why the hell was the theater set to show the movie and hour late? The movie should've come on at 7:30pm here, not 8:30pm. So I've got some major bitching to do.

Patrick Macias on Nino
"Nino is… well, NINO. As a member of a superstar boy band, he’s been photographed, filmed, poked, and prodded by the media non-stop for nigh on a decade now. He’s simply not an ordinary Joe like you and me. Even now, as we meet, there’s a camera crew fixated on him, filming only his eyes as the PR guys explain the delicate procedures ahead. Afterwards, he lets out a battle-ready “gambarre masu” (“I’ll do my best!”) and you can feel an amazed and solemn hush fall over the room. We are in the presence of a Japanese idol who is a 100%, to the hilt, Japanese idol!"

Hey this is Patrick. Please, please don't take the fangirl comments so seriously (as seen on the Arashi LJ)! You're fans and lots of you are girls...but you honestly have my deepest respect. This weekend truly has been the weekend of “GANTZ“.
The first of two “GANTZ” movies opened on a total of 410 screens and achieved a box office revenue of 592,823,900 Yen, which equals to approx. 7.2 million USD. A total revenue of more than 10 billion Yen for both movies combined should be a realistic goal for distributor TOHO, not to mention the additional revenue it’s going to earn through its American release in February and the 21 other countries that have acquired the rights to distribute the movie.
If you’re curious about the motives on why people flock into the cinemas to watch this amazing movie: 31.5% answered that they only went because of starring actor Ninomiya Kazunari, 15.3% have been a fan of the original, 14.6% simply wanted to see a nice action flick and 7.7% went because of Matsuyama Kenichi. Another interesting fact that proves the importance of two such popular actors is that 75% of the moviegoers were women, with 40% of them being between the age of 13 and 19.
Now we know who went to watch the movie, but did they like it? Oh yes, they did. After the movie, 95.1% said that the movie was either “really good” or “good” and that they are going to recommend it to others.
The second part, “GANTZ PERFECT ANSWER“, is slated to open on April 23rd and Matsuyama already revealed that the sequel will have an original story different from the manga and that it will have a real ending, unlike the original. I guess we don’t have to mention that 97.3% of the people who already saw “GANTZ” this past weekend said that they are going to watch the sequel as well.
Unfortunately there was one other big Japanese movie that fell a bit short next to all that hype hype, “Byakuyako“. It still had a satisfying opening weekend, but as we’ve mentioned before, it was the weekend of “GANTZ”.

Hahaha I can already purchase tickets online for part 2! :D I love you AMC! <3
So then if this is true, then the Katastrophe arc won't happen in the movie. If they're going to go with an original ending that is.
