View Full Version : What's next for Ted DiBiase?

When Legacy split up, I definitely thought that Ted would really take off as a solo character while Cody would probably falter a bit. Thus far, Cody has been MINT, while Ted has been...well, just sort of there. Now, I don't think it's Ted's fault. He hasn't been doing anything objectionable that is of his own design. He's just been stuck in a couple of goofy feuds and dead end storylines.
On Raw, however, it looked like 'the winds of change' are about to start blowing for Ted. His character seems agitated and frustrated. He wants to make something HAPPEN. I definitely feel he has the tools to do it, especially after watching his match with Daniel Bryan at Survivor Series.
I don't want to get too far ahead of myself and say that a minute long backstage promo with Maryse doing most of the talking is going to be the catalyst for Ted's success, but it's as good a place to start as any. What do you think is about to happen with Ted? Will he stay with Maryse? Will he turn face? Will he engage in a proper feud with Daniel Bryan?
Discuss.

He willl be just like his father.
i was on the Cody bandwagon when Legacy split, but I thought Ted would do well for himself.
I honestly think that they just haven't found the right thing for him to do. He's clearly solid in the ring, So I think when he finally finds his niche, he'll thrive.
That theme has got to go tho.

Never a top tier champion? Awesome laugh? Elaborate.
I still think he's gonna be 'a star', just might take a while to 'find his spot'.
Theme is awful, really liked the old one.

I really would have liked to have seen Michael Tarver as Virgil 2K10, but then he went out and got REAL Virgil, so there's probably zero chance of that happening now.

Something about Ted's beard and the look on his face...the way he screamed "SHUT UP!" to Maryse...I dunno, I marked out a little bit.
Niche, that's a better way of putting it. He's still got a lot to learn, remember he only got his start less than 2 years before showing up on TV.
Ugh, he's 28. So he decided to 'get into the business' at like 23-24, turned out to be alright and because of who is dad, he's on TV not long after. The bastard :(

Really? His progression is pretty awesome in that case.
When did Cody start?

Don't be jealous of Ted because he comes from money, CSL. You'll get your call up soon, I'm sure.
They both debuted on the independent scene in 2006.

I'm the only one who loves his new theme. Seems like a theme that a "big star" could have.
I think he has potential, hopefully he steps up with this "frustraTED" angle and shows us something.

You know, I posted the theme in here thinking that it was awful, but I actually listened to it just then and...well...it's not awful.
Also, :y: @ FrustraTED.

He went 'the right way about it', got some experience and Japan and stuff before signing, that'll get you 'up to speed' in no time.
I think Cody was about the same but he went straight to OVW, only I think he may have trained with Dusty for his fed first. I think he's just 'naturally' better where as DiBiase has learned everything he knows.

I remember seeing Cody a few times on OVW when it aired on a local station here. I didn't think he'd fit into the 'big leagues', but he's definitely gone above and beyond any of my expectations already.
First time I saw him was at Dusty's HOF induction and he seemed very comfortable/confident talking in front of a large crowd. That's like half the battle won. His current gimmick is money as well.

He'll move to Smackdown, then when that doesn't work-Coundown to TNA: 2 years or End of contract. Which ever comes first. Then He will do the Christian thing and come back to be a star.

when brett debiase get back to 100 percent bring him up and team him with ted
I think I would like to see him as a face and be more aggressive/animated. That little skit on Raw seems like they will take him in a good direction but I have a feeling it will probably lead to nothing much. I don't mind his new theme song.

It might be pretty funny if he goes to Smackdown, and forms a tag team with Del Rio called "The Millionaire's Club" or something like that.

Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes should still be a tag team. WWE does this all the time they take a tag team that works and is getting over then they split them and don't do much with either man. I think Cody and Ted should have tagged until at least Wrestlemania 27. But what's done is done.

My first response is: Send him to SmackDown!. Ted DiBiase was very green when he was signed, and is still learning. The guy seems to have absorbed Randy Orton's style like a sponge. On SmackDown!, longer matches are worked, so the guy could gain more momentum by working longer matches and showing off some storytelling ability.
NXT will help DiBiase, though. I hope so anyway. Brodus Clay is a big guy, and could cross-over to the main roster to add some more oomph to DiBiase. I just can't see anyone interesting for DiBiase to feud with. I don't want him to take the US Title off Daniel Bryan, and there are hardly any faces for him to work with. Ted DiBiase vs. Mark Henry? No, thank you.
Although, hearing about what he apparently did on RAW, and someone mentioning the phrase "frustraTED," I would not mind seeing DiBiase turn face by "giving away all his money," and then just going nuts on everybody. Would be an interesting turn of events for him. If he did something that got him fired, or he quit, DiBiase could easily move to SmackDown! where a wild face character might work better, without stepping on the toes of any rising stars on RAW.

The new theme fits the character (at least the Million Dollar Couple gimmick, but who knows how much longer that lasts), but it sounds better on headphones than it does in an arena, IMO. It doesn't come across that well on TV.
I'm hoping he at least gets a chance to work an extended U.S. Title program, but I've been waiting for it for awhile. I thought it would've been a nice boost for the Legacy stable if he or Cody had gone after it back then, but the matches will probably be better with Bryan than they would've been with Kofi or whoever was champion then. Hopefully he can pick up a few things by working with Bryan and take off from there, even if he doesn't win the belt.

I thought the same as you ABT, and I was surprised that Cody took off so well, but I'm liking "Dashing" Cody Rhodes a lot.
But I think with Monday, I think the whole thing with Maryse will end and she'll return to the Diva's Championship hunt and DiBiase will go on some sort of a mean streak. Probably using Brodus Clay to help him. I have to say, I'm only getting this feeling from the backstage promo, DiBiase being on NXT and his new found beard.
As for his theme, it really doesn't suit him at all. I don't mean to racial stereotype or anything, but his theme sounds more suited to a black wrestler with a money gimmick. I just keep thinking of Floyd Mayweather when I hear DiBiase's theme.
I think if DiBiase does go on a mean streak, he should revert back to his old theme.

Then what?
have them win the tag titles hold on to them for year then have them split at the draftand have ted win money in the bank and then he will be back on track
I think Cody benefitted greatly from a change in gimmick over on SmackDown, whilst Ted has gone from being the "Million Dollar Son" to the "Million Dollar Man 2.0" complete with M$ Belt and Virgil.
Hopefully they give him as big a gear change as Cody got with the "Dashing" gimmick.

I'm pretty sure it's MDM 3.0, as JBL was labelled as being MDM 2.0 when the gimmick started
Got to agree with most though, when Legacy split, I totally thought Ted was going to be the star, and Cody would get left behind.
Perhaps they put a lot of stock in to the whole 'Fortunate Sons' idea, and are just struggling for ideas for him until that gets back on track.

I think going to SmackDown! would be the right move for Ted. Honestly, after the Legacy triple threat match at Mania, I was thinking that Ted would be put into an extension of that program with Randy, still feel they could've at least prolonged that feud for a few PPV matches.
Cody go the "luxury" of getting the restart button hit once he went over to SD!. Ted's been stuck in creative purgatory since there doesn't seem to be a clear direction for where they want to take him.
Having him feud with Randy for a little while longer, and maybe getting a win or two, would have helped set him up for a better run on Raw.

Best thing that could happen to Ted DiBiase is a trade to SmackDown, and Joey Mercury to RAW.
On RAW two weeks before Royal Rumble, John Morrison has been feuding with Nexus, so Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel challenge Morrison to a Tag Team title match at Royal Rumble, and he can pick his own partner.
On the next RAW, Morrison says he can't find a partner, so he'll have to do a Handicap Match.
At Royal Rumble, we see Morrison preparing for his match until his phone rings. When Slater and Gabriel get in the ring, Morrison comes out and talks at the ramp. He says he found a partner. "That's right. I'd like you to meet my partner, Joey Mercury!" Jim Ross says, "It can't be! MNM have reunited!" This shocks Slater and Gabriel, however, in the end, Mercury turns on Morrison.
Mercury can explain his actions saying how Morrison turned his back on him. It could be great and get Mercury over.

Here is what I would personally do with Ted DiBiase:
* His tension with Maryse continues. He progressively treats her worse and worse. He flat-out calls her names, and basically tells her "I'm paying you, so you'll do what you're told -- but even if I wasn't, you'd still be with me because I'm the best you've ever been with." Basically he is a huge ass, but Maryse's sticking with him proves him right.
* Brodus Clay is happy to have DiBiase as a WWE Pro, because of all the lifetime of experience between the two. DiBiase says that he's going to pay Clay extra money to be at RAW and make sure he wins matches and such. Clay refuses, because he already has enough money, isn't in the WWE for the money, and wants to be his own Superstar. DiBiase is furious at this, and Maryse acts like she's a little turned on by Clay's attitude.
* DiBiase gets a chance to show off his matter-of-fact promo delivery, ripping into the rookies on NXT. He basically plays your arrogant heel coach.
* Chances are slim, but if Brodus Clay blows up and gets really over to the point where he wins NXT 4, then you have DiBiase rewarded as his Pro, as well. But if not, DiBiase can offer Clay the old deal he did -- he'll get him onto the RAW roster if he helps out DiBiase. Clay agrees, reluctantly, just because he wants to be in the WWE so bad.
* Things come to a head when Clay has to decide whether or not he wants to help DiBiase win the US Title from Daniel Bryan. He apologies to Bryan before the match for anything he does to Bryan, and DB tells Clay to think about the sacrifices John Cena made, and how prestigious the US Title is meant to be. Clay thinks about this.
* During the match, Clay turns on DiBiase, and helps Daniel Bryan retain the United States Title. DiBiase is furious, and fires Brodus Clay, but the RAW GM (whomever it may be at this point in time) chimes in and says that Clay has proven his worth, and is now an official member of the RAW brand. Clay gets a huge smile across his face and goes right after DiBiase, who bails.
* Next year, in the draft, DiBiase ends up on SmackDown!.

Lates face it Rhodes is only doing well now cuz he's on SD if it had been the other way around DiBiase would have been IC Champion by now. In fact despite his slower progression I'm banking on it that Ted will be the next US Champion before Cody is even in the IC hunt as a #1 contender. As much as RAW needs some fresh new faces I have a feeling this outburst towards Maryse is only the begging a deeper heel turn if anything.
