View Full Version : Time for a former wrestler to be a FT Announcer?

So with CM Punk behind the table lately, it got me thinking, wouldn't it be a good idea (maybe even a fresh idea, haven't seen it in a full time role since Monsoon or Jesse) for WWE to appoint one of their former wrestlers to a full time announce team position? I believe the announce team's current formula is missing a legit experienced voice on the headset (Jerry's time is up, we need a fresh voice). If so, who would you like to see chosen?

JBL was there but he left, I'd like to see William Regal as an announcer.

Oh I thought JBL was there for the same reason CM Punk is, recovering from an injury?

Otunga. That way he can do what he does best, talk, and we don't have to see him.

Isn't this the role Matt Striker plays?

I thought it was, but I'm guessing we're supposed to be over him now?

Yeah. Matt Striker went straight from wrestler to announcer.

Once CM Punk gets back in the ring, I think JBL needs to be brought back in for Raw. His time on SmackDown! was great when he was behind the desk. He did a tremendous job adding insight to the match, and unlike Striker, JBL's voice is authoratative and commands attention. I loved how he would put over Shane Helms as SmackDown's greatest kept secret.

Announcers telling both a story and talking guys up are vital to aboth their job and the quality of their work and the overall enjoyment of the match, IMO.

Bring back Bradshaw.

Also, if he is truly done with his in ring work, I think HHH would be awesome behind the desk. He has the ability to be funny, serious, and has a plethora of knowledge about being in the ring that he can use to call a match and give it that extra kick.

Kevin Nash would be a great commentator.... Christian would be as well.....

Santino would be awesome as a commentator. But only after he wins the WWE Title and unifies it with the World Heavyweight Championship.

Wade Barrett was a damn good commentator for Florida Championship Wrestling. Not sure if he was hurt at the time, but he did a damn good job. Made it sound like it was legit competition like a futbol match.

That is his next job whenever he decides to retire in probably like 10 to 15 years hopefully.

I think William Regal would be excellent in this role once he tires of jobbing to the up and comers. He has the knowledge and the voice that would compliment just about anyone. I always felt while JBL did a passable job his voice would annoy the fucking shit out of me to the point that I spent the time listening to him talk wishing he would shut the fuck up. Regal would be my pick considering he's witty, has a good voice for TV, and has his career winding down now.

I did always like JBL when one guy would hit a huge move and he'd yell "Ballgame!"

It's sad that this man with a fake dinosaur, can do better in the ring than half the shit we're pretty much forced to see.

Only if he acts like he did in 5 questions with the champ. That might be entertaining.

We should start a poll on if he does start announcing how long until the headset blows out his knee

Best three man announce team ever would be Jericho, Angle and Foley

Jericho would be the heel announcer and encourage foul play. Angle would be your play by play guy doing the actual commentary, and Foley would be the guy getting behind the faces

I'd like to see CM Punk keep doing Superstars or NXT, even when he is back in the ring. That'd be amazing. Punk does the JBL thing of really putting guys over at times. I think him high-fiving Primo on Superstars and calling Tyson Kidd the best pound-for-pound guy in the WWE have been amazing touches.

William Regal is a guy I'd like to see take to the booth when his in-ring career is done. He'd be pretty brilliant, in my opinion.
