View Full Version : Really insecure about my music collection

GD
12-10-2010, 06:43 AM
I will be moving to California next year for College and I have a huge music collection. Majority of it has been purchased and quite a good amount of music has been downloaded via p2p. Now I am in a dilemma, whether if I should delete the albums which I haven't purchased or should I just carry them with me?

I am sorry guys but this is really bothering me as of late. Comments and suggestions shall be appreciated

Carry them, you've "got the CDs at home", you pussy.

If you're <s>massivly paranoid</s> a massive pussy, encrypt the HD before travelling.

I know what to do with my purchased music. I am talking about the music that I have downloaded via torrent. Should I delete them before going to the University or just carry them in my hard drive and not care about getting caught?

Turns out, it's even dumber.

This.

Seriously, nobody gives a shit where you got all your music. You 'obviously' left all the CDs at home because it would be a pain to travel overseas with.

What Would Kevin Do?
12-10-2010, 12:16 PM
RIAA :'(

Yeah, the RIAA isn't going to bust into your dorm, confiscate and label all hard drives, search them for MP3s, and then confirm whether they were "illegal" or not. Come on now.

People get caught from torrents and p2p shit, not from simply having the music.

Like every person under 40 in the fucking country has an iPod full of music with nothing to prove where it came from, and nobody would ever in a million years give a fuck.

You could get brought up on any other charges and they wouldn't even look at your iPod. You could drop it in front of a cop and he'd hand it to you like any other belonging in your life.

The idea of getting "caught" for this is so far beyond the realm of reality I can't even comprehend it. Sounds like something out of a Philip K. Dick story.
wtf is this thread? I feel ripped.

Seriously, could have made him take pictures to check he's doing it right so it's untraceable, make him destroy it and bury the pieces in various locations so they can't be rebuilt and so forth. Months of fun to be had.

I present Exhibit A for why this was in no way a work:

Your excitement for The Beatles on iTunes and everyone's unenthusiastic reaction to it. You seemed to genuinely not understand why nobody cared, and went as far to criticize people for not "legally" downloading their music.

I didn't criticize people for not legally downloading their music. And it was an attempt to see how many Apple fan boys are here on tpww.

Giggling at what? Me calling you an idiot? Me saying that you seem to be so stupid that you couldn't possibly be a real person? Others readily agreeing?

You did the same thing you do every thread. Say something, then when someone calls you out on the stupidity of it, either capitulate and agree with them, or pretend it's all joke. This makes you either a sock, or a very stupid person. Both are sad.

because you're subconsciously a hypocrite? it's okay, a lot of us are. like upwards of 95%, easily. i say stuff against "groups" that technically include me too. you're not immune, i wouldn't sweat it.

but you can't honestly say something like "well i guess this only matters for people who download stuff legally" without insinuating a) pirates are dismissible and pithy, and b) that you are outside the evil group because it matters to you.

It goes something like this. I am a vegetarian but I don't go on criticizing people for consuming non vegetarian food. It's a matter of choice.

okay you might be reading a bit too deep into my use of the word "evil". i -- is it evening worth explaining this to you?

your vegetarian point is lovely, but the fact remains you made two separate posts indicating your passive aggression towards media piracy and then made out like you did not. end of story.

Not to mention the whole condemnation was ridiculous even if you take downloading out of the equation.

Apparently people don't own hard Beatles albums where he comes from, but not being excited about arguably the most popular band of alltime debuting on iTunes is hardly indication of being a pirate.

Everybody and their brother has access to The Beatles legally.
