View Full Version : If Matt Hardy HAD to go to either TNA or ROH, which would you rather see?

I just read a Matt Hardy interview where he doesn't sound like a complete tool for the first time in months. In that interview, he talks about how he has a good relationship with Dixie Carter, but it's not a foregone conclusion he goes to TNA. He mentions ROH and how he likes the promotion and it reminds him of ECW in how guys would grow there, and then get plucked by either WWE or WCW (now known as TNA).
It got me thinking: Would Matt Hardy in ROH be a bad thing? The guy seeming bat-shit crazy aside, he's quite capable of stringing together a great match in the ring. And regardless of how loony he is, the man has lived, slept and breathed wrestling and being an attention whore for essentially his whole adult life.
Imagine if ROH picked up Matt Hardy. The guy gets booed out of the building by the smarks there. Hardy says that he has signed a contract with HDNet or whatever, and he is here to get ROH the fame and recognition in the wrestling world it deserves. It could almost be a parody of Hulk Hogan's relationship with TNA. Hardy talks about how there is so much "potential" in ROH, but the guys are so boring and don't know how to be stars. Instant heat in ROH. Hardy could even put together a team of "future Superstars" to help him gain control of the ROH "brand." He could bring Kimo in with him, since they seem to be friends, and perhaps even the amazingly talented (but also seeming to be slipping into douchebaggery) Shane Helms. "The Prodigy" Mike Bennett could be the first guy who signs up with them, and you could get a pretty fucking awesome heel stable going.
I can just imagine guys like Homicide and Christopher Daniels really taking issue with Hardy being there, and talking about how ROH doesn't want to be like the WWE, and especially not TNA.
For all the solid wrestling that still goes on in ROH to this day, they haven't had the best of years. I don't know how they are doing financially, and I do hope they are turning a profit, but something like this (providing Hardy is willing to work cheap), could be a storyline that gets people buzzing about ROH. Especially if Matt Hardy brings his working boots, and is willing to go out of his way to put over the honourable guys.
To be honest, I'd much prefer this over Matt Hardy showing up and being part of Immortal -- or fighting against them. I was a mark for Matt even before Mattitude, but I just don't feel like cheering him, and I don't want to see another guy given a ticket to the top in front of guys who have been busting their asses in TNA for longer, and are actually at the stage where they could be more relevant.

matt hardy isn't a good enough wrestler to be in ROH.
ship him off to TNA to be with his dumb shit brother and the rest of those low lifes.
can't be too much longer now until TNA goes under.

If he's saved his money the way he claims than ROH would be the better option for him i think. It would give him the chance to actually wrestle again, and maybe regain some of his past glory and actually get praised. If he went to TNA he'd wind up in the Immortal angle and just be another face in the crowd, at least in ROH he would be a big fish in a small pond.

He's Matt Hardy. He don't need to reservation to The Waffle House.
I dunno -- maybe it's just because I was once pretty high on the guy. Mattitude made me mark out even during a couple of months when Australia didn't get SmackDown!, so I had to use the internet and reports to see what he was doing. The man had so much potential, and whether or not he is batshit crazy or just completely miscalculates what "working the internet" means -- I do kind of hope that Matt gets his shit together and earns some good praise before he becomes too broken down and too much of a "has been" to really be an impact player and get that glory that his earlier work implied he could potentially get.
I don't see that happening in TNA. What I see happening is Matt coming in, calling Jeff Hardy on his shit, winning the TNA World Title from him (cutting in front of arguably more deserving talent, like Mr. Anderson, Kurt Angle and even Matt Morgan), and then doing exactly what his brother did -- "buying in," turning heel in a "twist" that doesn't surprise anyone with half a brain, drops the TNA World Title off to someone TNA is trying to get publicity that echoes with and then forming a tag team with his brother (which would actually be amazing for TNA, but Jeff is in too high a profile singles role to just suddenly become a tag team guy overnight -- that's reserved for Desmond Wolfe).
Some might think that Matt Hardy is not a good enough pure worker for ROH, but the guy reportedly planned out so many of the most memorable matches of all time. Granted, they were breaking new ground, but he's a damn good ring talent. His 2005 appearances with ROH were well received, if not mind-blowing, and fueled off what was huge internet fan support at the time.
Even if Hardy isn't exactly the world's greatest mat technician, a guy who comes to mind is Jimmy Rave. People were split on the guy, but I remember the general consensus being that he wasn't an amazing in-ring worker, but found a brilliant role as the "Crown Jewel" of The Embassy. That success was never replicated in TNA, or even when he returned to ROH in essentially the same role. I truthfully believe ROH might have lightning in the bottle if they struck with a heel Matt Hardy who thought he was too big for ROH. And Hardy could be carried to a good match with Christopher Daniels -- guaranteed.

ROH fans would shit all over Matt Hardy and he's not emotionally stable enough to deal with that. He needs to go somewhere he will get told he's been misused, he's world championship material and that he can do whatever dumb shit he wants on the internet. TNA will provide that for him.

Wasn't the main reason Matt was so pissed in WWE because he had to constantly put over guys like McIntyre instead of getting the push for himself? I can't see him wanting to go anywhere to build other guys up.

Also, I like Noids idea with all the smarks booing him in ROH. Knowing what a whiny emo bitch he is, he'd probably hang himself.

I would rather see him in TNA because I do not have access to HDnet and ring of honor at the moment. Even though I don't care much for the guy these days I still am interested in seeing him on TV and seeing what he can do away from the WWE.

This is the exact reason that'd I'd love to see Matt Hardy in ROH.Don't get me wrong, the train wreck aspect could be fantastic. It would just be dumb for ROH to do considering the price it probably will cost to book Hardy.
I was talking about him being there winding up indy wrestling fans :p But yeah, I doubt they'd bring him in for more than a few shots since I'd have thought he'd price them out of a deal. Still wouldn't be surprised to see him go back to WWE down the line.

Honestly, I'd like to see Matt go to TNA but instead of teaming him up with Jeff, I think it would be great for him to turn on Jeff and create a feud that lasts for a couple months and contains many extreme matches that the WWE never did during their feud a while back.
I always felt that the WWE flopped on this feud and they could have done so much more, so TNA could capitalize on that. With them not having a PG rating they could do so many more crazy matches and really show their potential.
I don't know if Matt and Jeff working together would be the smartest thing. I mean, both are clearly drugged out of their mind.
It'd be a "first to get paralyzed loses" feud.
If TNA did sign Matt, it would be stupid not to take advantage and pair them up at some point. They may be out of shape, but Hardys v MCMG would qualify as a huge match IMO.
It would be a backwards step for Jeff though no doubt.

I dont think Jeff Hard can step any further backwords with out falling off a mile high cliff with no chance of survival
